(Song recommendation: Never surrender ~ Liv Ash)
Jacquelyn made her way towards the door, her dress rustling on the cold marble floor. Her heart raced in her chest; she was afraid, not because she was going out with Kael, but because of what Griselda had placed in her pocket.
The first time the governess gave her a knife, she didn't know what it was for. But now, Jacquelyn had moved past that ignorance. Even though Griselda had said it would buy her time to escape, what if it caused more harm to Kael? She didn't want to hurt him. After all, he had done nothing but offer her a home and a new family.
Kael stood beside the carriage, speaking to the coachman who would accompany them. When he saw Jacquelyn walking toward him, a sinister smile formed on his lips.
"Why do you look like you did something wrong?" he asked.
Jacquelyn raised her face, subconsciously touching her pocket. "I- what? I didn't do anything."
