Jacquelyn hid behind a tree not far from her mother, watching as she argued with Griselda. Even Griselda looked much younger and happier. Jacquelyn wondered if her mother knew that Griselda was a witch, if they were close. A lot of things juggled through her mind.
And most of all, leaving. Jacquelyn wanted to stay a little longer, even if she didn't have much to say. Listening to her mother talk all day was the best music. She would give anything for it, but... things don't always go as planned.
When Griselda and Anne entered the palace, Jacquelyn stepped away from the tree. If she had enough time, she would have run back to hold her mother, but right now, she was on borrowed time. As much as Kael tried to deny it, Jacquelyn felt heavy in her chest every time he looked at her.
