Herschel bowed when he noticed his presence had disturbed the cheerfulness in the castle. And it broke his heart seeing that Chaos was not there to laugh with them; his voice was not ringing in the air with so much energy.
"Herschel," Jacquelyn said softly, bringing her hand down to her side. She could still sense the longing, the pain, the heartache in the man's eyes. And it wasn't just her; everyone else was quiet because they noticed it too.
Herschel raised his face, rubbing his weak trembling hands together. "I can come back tomorrow—" he turned to leave.
"No, no," Griselda and Iva waved their hands at the same time.
"We were just, ehm," Iva cleared her throat and picked up Layla from the ground. "About to rest for the day."
Griselda nodded in agreement. "Yes, you're very much welcome to stay," the woman said as she followed Iva back inside the castle.
