The rest of the night was peaceful, with the rain cooling the air. Though everyone in Morville Castle had their worries as they slept, it was better than the night Chaos died. For the first time, Jacquelyn slept without waking up from a nightmare, but she held Kael closely even in her sleep.
Jacquelyn didn't want him to disappear suddenly, or worse, die while she was sleeping.
The next morning was a little different. The air wasn't dull as it used to be; rather, it was filled with the sweet aroma of broth, bacon, and rich fresh milk. The heat from the kitchen made the castle warm. Griselda was in the kitchen preparing breakfast for everyone.
The woman had a smile on her face. She was happy to finally leave her room and face others. She had missed helping out in the castle. As she moved the bowl of soup to the dining room, she met Ballister.
"Balli," Griselda called out. She noticed the dullness in the boy's eyes. "A great morning, isn't it?"
