Kael is dying...?" Jacquelyn's voice trembled, laced with uncertainty. "Kael is dying," she repeated, this time with dawning realization. The princess touched her forehead, stood up from the ground, and turned around mindlessly.
Griselda stood behind her, watching closely as she struggled to compose herself.
"I-I need to..." Jacquelyn stammered, her words trailing off. "I need to tell Kael... we need to find a solution. He can't die..." Her voice cracked as she touched the bridge of her nose. She took a few steps forward, then stopped abruptly. Jacquelyn's restlessness was evident; she was unsure of what to do or say. Kael couldn't die. Not when they were finally happy.
"How could such a beautiful blessing turn to a curse?" she wondered out loud. She'd thought that Kael's heart beating was his humanity returning, and that they could now live as a normal couple. "I should have known..."
