At the ruined church, Adele slowly let go of Julia, who had passed out during the ritual. The vesper witch gathered her ritual materials, her eyes scanning the whole place, which was filled with an unsettling silence, as if something dangerous had not just occurred a few moments ago. Darkness returned to the ground; there was not a single sound from even the crickets or birds. It was as though every living thing had scurried away from the place, which was now filled with corrupted energy.
"Kael really meant his words," Adele muttered to herself. "He was willing to burn the world for his woman, and not a strand of her hair being harmed." She shook her head and chuckled.
