When Fu Shinian stepped out of the bath, Su Mu's figure was no longer in the room. He didn't know when she had left; he just looked toward the direction of the sofa and momentarily lost himself in thought. But he couldn't deceive himself into believing that her actions were all about money.
Even though she was often manipulative, the Su Mu he knew wouldn't do such a thing for money – she valued her own dignity and pride above everything else.
What he said earlier was just an uncontrollable urge to mock and infuriate her, to make her reveal her true intentions. Yet she, preferring to be misunderstood, still didn't say it out loud.
Getting into bed, Fu Shinian got a shock because someone was hidden under the covers. He almost sprang up, needing a good while to calm down before he could address the person who was supposed to have vanished:
"Su Mu, why are you here?"
