Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 I Can Cure

The Second Hospital, Tang Ruoqing was assisting Su Nanxing with the paperwork.

Her father was the dean of the Second Hospital, so getting Su Nanxing a position was no issue, but Su Nanxing preferred to sign a contract first.

After all, she was pregnant and feared that there might be complications later on.

During the paperwork, the staff couldn't help but look at the dean's daughter: "Doctor Tang, you say she's a doctor too, but her diploma... Why is it in Mechanical and Electronic Engineering?"

Tang Ruoqing smiled and said, "She's a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine; look, all her documents are in order. Don't worry, just go ahead with it."

This staff member was usually on good terms with Li Huaiyu from Internal Medicine, and couldn't help complaining to Li Huaiyu after Tang Ruoqing and Su Nanxing left.

As it happened, Li Huaiyu was friends with Meng Qingxue and knew that Su Nanxing had come to work at the Second Hospital as a doctor.

She found it to be a complete joke!

Back in the day, she and Su Nanxing went to the same university, and she was well aware that Su Nanxing majored in Mechanical Engineering.

And now she was here to be a doctor?

...

Tang Ruoqing still had surgery to perform, so Su Nanxing left the elevator by herself, just in time to run into Li Huaiyu.

"I hear you're coming to our hospital to be a doctor?" Li Huaiyu began with a mocking tone, "Do you really think being a doctor is that easy, without any barriers? But then again, for a woman like you, cast aside, fitting into the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine is just right, since nobody looks to it anymore, given it's hardly useful."

Su Nanxing frowned, the thick sarcasm in her tone irritated her.

It vexed her to be called a woman cast aside and enraged her to hear Traditional Chinese Medicine dismissed as unnecessary: "The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine treats by differentiating syndromes and it drives out evil without harming the body's vital energy. In saving lives and healing the sick, it's no lesser than Western medicine!"

"You talk as if you have it all figured out," Li Huaiyu sneered. "But I wonder if your professional expertise can measure up to your blabbering!"

Su Nanxing was furious.

Question anything, but this woman dared question her professionalism?

She had been learning Traditional Chinese Medicine with her grandfather since she was a child; her grandfather's surname was Han, and it seemed like the Han Family ancestors would turn over in their graves!

Out of love for Lu Beiyuan, Su Nanxing had bowed her head and acted submissive for three whole years before him.

But deep down, she was never a person who could suffer in silence!

"Li Huaiyu, your under-eye area is dark and your complexion is dull and lustreless, which points to a deficiency in qi and stagnant blood. If you don't manage it, you might end up half-paralyzed after a while. Instead of mocking others, you should pay more attention to your own health!"

After stating her piece, Su Nanxing didn't care what Li Huaiyu looked like infuriated and strode off.

She then headed to the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine's outpatient services, still visibly angry.

The outpatient services for the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Department of Psychology were both on the fourth floor. Su Nanxing climbed the stairs and saw that the corridors outside the outpatient services on floors one through three were filled with patients waiting for their appointments.

But upon reaching the fourth floor, the atmosphere changed dramatically.

It was desolate and dreary...

The Department of Psychology was located on the east side and had a few patients.

The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine was on the west side, and it was really... deserted.

Li Huaiyu hadn't lied.

Su Nanxing felt a strange discomfort in her heart.

Traditional Chinese Medicine was in decline, and she wanted to revitalize it; the responsibility was immense and the road long.

And yet, for what she thought was love, she had wasted three years of her time.

Arriving at the door of the consulting room, she reached out and knocked on the door.

"Hello, hello..." Luo Yewei, buried in his phone, assumed a patient had arrived, smiled broadly, and eagerly spoke, "Are you here for a consultation? What seems to be the problem?"

Su Nanxing took out the materials and paperwork provided by the Medical Affairs Department: "Hello, I'm the new doctor in the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Su Nanxing. Please give me your guidance in the future!"

Luo Yewei let out an 'ah': "So young..."

Not only young but also beautiful.

Su Nanxing had a classic oval face, porcelain skin, jet-black hair, and a delicate chin, with a touch of adorable baby fat.

Big eyes, a high nose bridge, and even her neck was long, adding to her grace.

Luo Yewei enthusiastically briefed her on the current situation of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

There was one department head, two attending physicians, and Su Nanxing—a total of just four people.

There were also a few nurses in the wards.

After understanding the situation, Su Nanxing glanced at the modest clinic and asked, "No patients today?"

Luo Yewei replied, "Just our luck, not a single one."

Nowadays, when patients go to the hospital, they prefer to see specialists and rarely seek out less experienced doctors.

Su Nanxing understood and nodded in agreement.

The medical system was on the computer; Luo Yewei opened the outpatient backend and exclaimed with delight, "Someone's made an appointment!"

Su Nanxing looked at Luo Yewei, whose eyes almost disappeared with happiness, and thought to herself, "Is the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine really in such a sorry state?"

Noticing the peculiar look in Su Nanxing's eyes, Luo Yewei said, somewhat embarrassed, "Some people from other departments downstairs come to our Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine to feel superior, bragging about having dozens of patients every day. What's so great about having a few more patients?"

After he checked his appointment list, he sighed softly, "Ah, having dozens of appointments a day does seem pretty impressive."

Unable to help herself, Su Nanxing chimed in, "There will be."

With the patient scheduled for later in the morning, the two sat idle for a while before Su Nanxing stood up: "I'll go have a look."

Perhaps she could bring in a patient or something.

Luo Yewei also got up, "I'll introduce you."

The two exited, and right across was the Department of Psychology.

At this moment, the Department of Psychology had started to see more patients, making the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine look even more desolate in comparison.

Luo Yewei felt upset and suggested, "Doctor Su, let's go back to our department."

Su Nanxing didn't respond but instead focused on a young girl.

The girl's head was large for her tiny body, and her complexion was sallow, clearly malnourished.

Seeing Su Nanxing stare at the girl, Luo Yewei said, "I know this child; she has anorexia nervosa and has been here many times. Poor thing... Doctor Su?"

Su Nanxing had already approached the girl and after observing her for a few more seconds, turned to a chubby man beside her, "Are you the child's parent? She has anorexia nervosa, and I can treat it!"

The chubby man, upon hearing this, instinctively thought she was a scammer.

He had sought treatment for the child for so long with no improvement.

What was this girl, who looked like a high school student, saying? She could treat it?

But wearing her work uniform, the chubby man, half believing, half doubting, asked, "How will you treat her?"

"You make an appointment with the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and I'll treat her."

"The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine?"

"Yes, the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Make an appointment now!"

Luo Yewei stood to the side, wanting only to cover his face—why did he feel like Su Nanxing was like a bandit from another department, stealing patients?

The chubby man's mindset was like that of many family members of patients with complicated conditions: a drowning man will clutch at a straw.

For his child's sake, he was willing to try anything.

Without hesitation, he made an appointment with Su Nanxing.

Li Huaiyu happened to pass by, witnessing the entire exchange. He spoke with disdain, "Doctor Su is poaching patients on her very first day at work?"

Her first day at work?

Before the chubby man could say anything, Su Nanxing had already taken the child and headed towards the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Li Huaiyu gave a meaningful look, and immediately someone chimed in, "I heard this Doctor Su studied mechanical and electronic engineering. I wonder what strings she pulled to get into the hospital and now she dares to take patients?"

The chubby man became anxious upon hearing this!

The patients waiting in the Department of Psychology overheard and the whole place erupted into chaos.

"What? She studied mechanics? These days even someone with a background in mechanics can be a doctor?"

"Are you kidding me? This is playing with human lives!"
