Zhuo Jian couldn't help but laugh at these words, setting down her sandwich and pressing her hands together in prayer, she earnestly asked him, "Then what do you think suits me? To be a delicate flower in a greenhouse? But now I'm an orphan with no other relatives, who will provide the conditions for me to be that?"
"Me!"
Fu Yanye tried to finish chewing the food in his mouth before saying to her.
"We both know it's not appropriate. Didn't Ruxiang clearly hint that she doesn't like you being too involved with me?"
Zhuo Jian always felt that Ruxiang couldn't possibly be that generous.
Fu Yanye looked at her, "I've said, our matters have nothing to do with her."
"How can it have nothing to do with her? Maybe in the next couple of days, you guys will become husband and wife. You'll have a new wife, and still need to take care of your ex-wife. Do you think your new wife would be happy about that?"
"Can we not talk about her for now?"
Fu Yanye was unhappy again.
"Fine! Let's reverse the roles for a moment. If I was with you and at the same time being attentive to other men, would you be happy? Plus, I don't want to be your freeloader for a lifetime."
Zhuo Jian gave him a smile after saying that and then continued to pick up her sandwich to eat.
Now she could still eat the sandwich he made, in the future she might not even get a chance to drink the water he pours; she had to cherish this moment.
Watching her act so rationally made Fu Yanye's stomach involuntarily burn with emotion.
This woman, despite her young age, was alarmingly clear-headed.
Fu Yanye, annoyed, took another bite of the sandwich, but it tasted bland.
Soon after, the doorbell rang, and both subconsciously glanced outside.
Zhuo Jian quickly lowered her head, having that premonition.
It was Ruxiang.
Fu Yanye stood up, ready to open the door.
"Mr. Yanye, if it's Ruxiang, should I leave?"
"She's at the hospital!"
Fu Yanye said blandly and then went to open the door.
Zhuo Jian's heartbeat accelerated more and more.
Why did she feel like she shouldn't be here when she was still legally his wife?
Is this what they mean by not suitable?
Zhuo Jian took another bite of the sandwich, and suddenly, her eyes couldn't make out anything clearly.
What Fu Yanye didn't expect was that the person supposed to be in the hospital had actually come here.
"Why are you here?"
"I missed you!"
Ruxiang softly professed her feelings, then looked inside, "Why don't you invite me in? Are you hiding another woman?"
"It's only Zhuo Jian!"
Fu Yanye said in a bland tone, but he felt inexplicably annoyed as he watched her walk in.
No one else had ever come here.
"Why is Ah Jian here so early? Didn't she go back to stay with her aunt?"
Ruxiang asked, seemingly in good spirits, not finding anyone in the living room, she glanced around before heading in a different direction.
Zhuo Jian just wanted to finish her sandwich. As Ruxiang walked in, she stuffed the last small piece into her mouth, smiled at Ruxiang, then politely stepped aside, covering her mouth as she chewed and swallowed the food before turning back.
Only then did Fu Yanye slowly walk in, about to speak, he met Zhuo Jian's teary eyes sparkling with a smile, and his heart inexplicably ached.
"I made an appointment with Mr. Yanye today to file for divorce!"
Zhuo Jian said with a smile.
"Divorcing today?"
Ruxiang asked again excitedly, then looked at Fu Yanye.
But Fu Yanye's face did not show any joy, in fact, it was cold and distant.
However, Ruxiang couldn't maintain the same cool composure as him and said with a smile, "Finish your milk first."
Zhuo Jian glanced at the milk on the table and shook her head, "No, I left my household registration book at home. I need to go back and get it first, you two chat!"
She nodded and was about to leave.
"Won't you stay a bit longer? Ah Jian, don't be a stranger! Even if you guys divorce, like I said, if you call me Sister Ruxiang, he's still your brother-in-law, and we're still family. You can still come here to hang out."
"I have to go to work after getting the divorce, so you guys chat first!"
Zhuo Jian looked at Ruxiang gripping her wrist and, feeling uncomfortable, gently pushed her away. With a smile and lowered eyes, she said her goodbyes and left.
"Well, I won't keep you then! Come over another day for a visit!"
Ruxiang stood behind, watching her leave and slowly spoke after her.
Zhuo Jian just wanted to leave quickly.
Fu Yanye glanced at Ruxiang involuntarily. What did she mean by that?
Did she think she was the owner of this place?
"Wait here for me, don't wander off."
After Fu Yanye gave his instructions, or rather, after he issued his command, he turned and chased after her with long strides.
Ruxiang could hardly believe what she heard and saw.
He told her not to wander off?
To just have her stand there?
She had never been here before. How many years had they known each other?
Zhuo Jian stood by the elevator, anxiously waiting as it, for some reason, was slow to arrive. Her heart was ablaze with impatience.
Suddenly, she heard the door open and her heart lurched violently.
He came out, striding towards her.
She moved slightly to the side. The closer he got, the hotter she felt inside.
She somewhat refused to let him get any closer!
But he still approached her. And she, unable to say anything, could only humbly step to the side, toward the elevator and the corner of the wall.
"I had no idea she would come over!"
Fu Yanye suddenly blurted out.
Zhuo Jian raised her already blurry eyes again. What did he mean by that?
Did he not know that Ruxiang was trailing her?
Or did he mean to say that Ruxiang had never been here?
Zhuo Jian found herself ridiculous. She could not comprehend anything from his deep, ebony eyes and looked down again, "See you at the Civil Affairs Bureau!"
"This house is for you, it's in the divorce agreement!"
Fu Yanye suddenly grasped her wrist.
Zhuo Jian didn't dare to look up, her long eyelashes already misted with a layer of moisture. Looking at him holding her wrist, she felt short of breath and once again bowed her head, murmuring a low affirmative, "Mhm!"
"Zhuo Jian, look at me!"
Fu Yanye couldn't see her face, but he felt she was going through a tough time.
But how could Zhuo Jian, distressed as she was, look up at him?
She feared that if she did, tears would fall.
Fortunately, the elevator arrived in time. Zhuo Jian breathed a sigh of relief and pushed his hand away with force, "I should go now!"
"Zhuo Jian!"
He was holding her wrist and did not wish to let go.
"Ruxiang is still waiting for you, you better go back!"
Zhuo Jian had no choice but to forcefully pry off his hand. His hands were clean and warm, and the contact threw her into turmoil.
But what could she do?
What didn't belong to her, she would not long for anymore.
So why were his hands so hard to peel away?
She had been so enamoured with his hands that she would dream of kissing them, once upon a time.
She used to love it when his hands touched her, in the past.
"Fu Yanye, let me go!"
Zhuo Jian's voice cracked unintentionally, pleading with a whisper.
Listening to that voice, Fu Yanye's heart grew even more chaotic, and he promptly pushed her into the elevator.
Zhuo Jian was dazed, raising her eyes to the person who followed her in. Before she could figure anything out, her face was suddenly cradled in his warm palm.
