Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Divorce was Postponed

Lu Jianshen took the phone and walked straight to the window after flipping away the blankets.

They talked for several minutes, and Nan Xi couldn't hear what he was saying. She only saw his eyebrows sometimes furrowed and sometimes relaxed.

After hanging up the phone, Lu Jianshen walked over.

Nan Xi looked at him embarrassed, "I answered the wrong call. Did Miss Fang misunderstand something?"

"I've already explained it," he said.

He paused and then looked at Nan Xi, "We're husband and wife, sleeping on the same bed, and waking up together from one bed is just normal."

"Mhm," Nan Xi nodded.

Just as she was about to get out of bed, Lu Jianshen suddenly leaned in close to her face, "What happened to your face?"

Nan Xi hurried to look in the mirror and, sure enough, she saw many red pimples on her face, her legs, her arms, and almost everywhere on her body.

She knew it was the consequence of the allergic reaction to eating eggs yesterday.

"It's a bit of an allergy, I've taken medicine already, it should subside in a few days," Nan Xi said.

"Are you really okay?" Lu Jianshen asked.

"Mhm, don't worry, it won't delay visiting Grandpa," she reassured him.

"Wait for a while. I'll put on my makeup, change clothes, and then we can leave together to discuss the divorce with Grandpa," she said.

She knew he couldn't wait for her to bring up the divorce.

Since there was no turning back, she wouldn't act like a pitiful little woman, begging for his pity and mercy.

She couldn't do things like that.

Her pride wouldn't allow it.

"We don't need to go to Grandpa's place. Let's go to the hospital to check on your face," Lu Jianshen said.

Nan Xi was stunned, "Grandpa has already agreed?"

Lu Jianshen shook his head.

Then he looked at her and explained, "I was just about to tell you, Grandpa's health isn't very good. He has moved his 80th birthday celebration up to a week from now."

"Grandpa has always cherished you. If we bring up the divorce now, he definitely won't be able to enjoy his birthday. Let's wait until after his 80th celebration is over to discuss it," he suggested.

"Okay," Nan Xi nodded. "Grandpa is the person in the Lu Family who cherishes me the most and treats me the best. I also hope he can have a joyful 80th birthday."

"From the sound of it, are you implying that I haven't treated you well?" Lu Jianshen teased.

Nan Xi: "..."

After her mother passed away, it was Grandpa who took her back to the Lu Family, giving her a warm and happy home and taking care of her, supporting her education.

Without Grandpa, she couldn't even imagine what her life these past few years would have been like.

"Don't worry. As soon as Grandpa's birthday is over, I'll bring up the divorce, and I won't delay you," she promised quickly, afraid he might worry she'd use Grandpa's birthday as an excuse to stall.

"You seem to be in a hurry to get a divorce, even more eager than I am?"

"What, can't wait to see your old flame?" Lu Jianshen rubbed his temples, not knowing why he felt inexplicably irritated.

After breakfast, Nan Xi, no match for Lu Jianshen's insistence, was still taken to the hospital by him.

In the doctor's office.

Nan Xi sat on a stool with Lu Jianshen standing by her side.

She was somewhat panicked; she hadn't expected Lu Jianshen would actually accompany her here.

"Do you know what you're allergic to?"

"I do."

"You knew, and still you ate so much, making it this severe. You're suffering now. Did you take any medicine?"

Nan Xi shook her head, somewhat embarrassed, "No."

"I'll prescribe some medicine for you to take home and see how it works. If it doesn't help, come to the hospital immediately for an injection."

Nan Xi's hand rested on her lower abdomen; she felt hesitant and worried that the oral medication might affect the baby.

But Lu Jianshen was standing beside her, so it didn't feel right to ask.

Just when she was extremely anxious, Lu Jianshen's phone rang, and he stepped out to take the call.

Nan Xi immediately breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the doctor, "Doctor, I'm pregnant; can I take these medicines?"

"Why didn't you tell me earlier? I'll switch them to topical medication; you don't need to take them orally."

"Thank you, doctor. Sorry for the trouble!"

After leaving the doctor's office, Lu Jianshen's expression changed.

It was no longer gentle as before, but turned extremely cold.

He held back all the way, but finally couldn't restrain himself at the medicine window, "You've gotten bold, learning to lie now, haven't you?"

Nan Xi knew he was talking about her deceiving him into thinking she had taken her medication.

She quickly lowered her head, feeling quite embarrassed, "Sorry, I didn't mean to."

"So, it was intentional."

Nan Xi: "..."

This ability to twist meanings is also impressive, isn't it?

"I thought since we're about to divorce, we'll go our separate ways afterward. We won't need to bother each other anymore. These past two years have been trouble enough for you already."

"So, you realize you've been a bother?" Lu Jianshen said, not in a good mood.

Nan Xi's ears turned red, her heart feeling sour, thinking, see, he indeed finds her burdensome and troublesome.

But the next moment, Lu Jianshen's voice rang out.

"Having been bothered for two years, another time doesn't matter."

After getting the medication, as Lu Jianshen was checking the instructions, he suddenly spoke up, "I remember the doctor prescribed oral medication. Why has it changed to topical?"

Nan Xi: "..."

Being overly observant and sharp sometimes isn't a good thing.

"Topical medication is good too!" Nan Xi said.

"You have severe allergies. Topical treatments are too slow; oral medication is more effective. Besides, it's almost Grandfather's 80th birthday. If those red bumps on your skin don't clear up by then, he might think I've mistreated you again."

"I will explain it to Grandfather, and besides, it won't take that long to heal," Nan Xi assured seriously.

But Lu Jianshen was insistent.

"No, I'm still going to switch to oral medication to avoid it being ineffective and you having to come get injections again."

Saying this, he headed towards the doctor's office, intending to have the prescription changed.

Nan Xi, holding her forehead, quickly called out to him, "Jianshen, wait, that... I asked the doctor to switch to topical medication. My stomach has been a bit off these days, and oral medication isn't suitable for people with upset stomachs."

"Topical medication might be slower, but it's safer, isn't it?"

This reason finally persuaded Lu Jianshen.

He stopped his steps.

In the car, Nan Xi first applied the medication to her face, legs, and arms.

But she couldn't see to apply it to the back of her neck; just as she was struggling with this, Lu Jianshen took the initiative to speak, "Are you sure you don't want to ask for my help?"

He was always like that, as if he knew everything, as if he orchestrated all beneath the heavens.

"Then here, you do it!" Nan Xi handed the medication to him.

Lu Jianshen suddenly frowned, "Is that your attitude? Won't you ask me nicely?"

Nan Xi bit her lip, deciding to go all in.

She batted her charming eyes, using a voice as soft as could drip water, and cooed, "Husband, I'm begging you, I can't reach it, please help me apply it, will you?"
