The entire laboratory was filled with a shrill alarm sound.
The landline in Jiang Man's rest room rang again.
The call was from Chief Xia, and his tone was very heavy.
"How is it?" Jiang Man asked anxiously.
Her rest room on the second floor had large glass windows through which she could actually see the reactions of the people below.
They were alternately excited and then despondent, leaving her somewhat baffled.
"The experimental results are successful, but the objective, failed."
Chief Xia's words begged further inquiry.
Afraid that Jiang Man wouldn't understand, he explained further, "The brain-machine interface is very successful, but when we accessed the inner world of the comatose patients, we found them helpless. They've been tormented by illness for years and have lost faith in life. This isn't what their families wanted, and it isn't the purpose for which we developed the brain-machine interface."
