Chapter 34 - Ch 34: Chase of shadow

The screams of battles echoed through the night, yet Lucifer remained perched on the rooftop, a silent observer of the unfolding tragedy.

His heart raced, not from the fear, but from the thrill of the chaos below:

'What a ruthless world this is'

People were being chopped off like vegetables, but even their compared died they could do nothing. Neither shadows nor reinforcement, they could do nothing but vent their anger on the enemy they were facing. Then, the ground was filled with blood, torn apart bodies.

What was this all about?

Lucifer pondered as he saw the scene, but his blood also boiled, not from sympathy but from the thrill of the action. Yes, he wanted to do like this to the people who made his life hell and he had never forgotten about this.

The dream and aim and his motivation were all close to it. He just needed to be patient about it.

He then just looked at the scene like a movie, like a child learning something about it. And Lucifer learned what from this topic? This was an interesting question to ask….

Yet, amidst the carnage, something unsetting situation shifted in the air.

The Shadow on the lead paused.

'Why am I feeling something chill from his vibe? …. Why did this brother or sister pause suddenly?'

Turned, yeah, the shadow looked behind. Where? In the eyes of Lucifer.

Just the two eyes met with each other, Lucifer vanished again. He did not even take a second to react, he just dashed backward like a flash.

The Peak-Level Earthbringer, the captain of the shadow, who is cloaked in darkness, waved his hand and then commanded:

"Chase after him, I need him alive anyhow… let's see where this little rat gonna run away…. And other, just do what we were here for"

With that, several common shadows charged toward him, like a bolt of lightning, their movement was fast. If compared to Lucifer, some agility was faster than him. When they charged in Lucifer's direction, they did not ask any questions, just followed the order and other remaining shadows began to do their things.

"Ah, what a curious little thing, where will you even hide from the shadow? Well, you can hide to…. nowhere" the shadow taunted, manically.

"What brings you to this….delightful chaos?"

Shadows were fast. Well, they were, as they were not common assassins, but trained assassins. So, catching up to Lucifer was not that hard for them.

Although he was baffled by their showcase of agility and detecting skills, he tried to maintain his composure, and then spoke:

"Just enjoying the show. But, didn't expect to see a cat among the mice."

The shadow's lips curled into a sinister grin, then spoke playfully, "You're far from safe up hiding in the dark. Come out nicely, and let's have a chat."

Before Lucifer could react, the shadow lunged.

'Fuck, this mf has a night vision?'

A blur of motion that caught him off guard. The impact sent him crashing to the ground, the wind knocked out of him. Pain radiated through his body as he struggled to regain his footing, but the shadow was relentless.

"Is this all you've got?" Lucifer spat, trying to mask his discomfort with bravado. But the truth was, he was being thoroughly outmatched. Each strike from the shadow felt like a hammer, relentless and unforgiving. He could feel his strength waning, and the world around him began to blur.

"Foolish pride," the shadow hissed, delivering another blow that sent Lucifer sprawling. "You think you can play in the big leagues without consequences?"

Lucifer grunted, his body aching, but he sensed something peculiar. The shadow's strikes lacked the intent to kill; they were calculated, designed to subdue rather than destroy. It was as if they wanted him alive, a thought that both intrigued and unnerved him.

As he lay on the ground, panting, he realized he had a choice. He could heal himself, tap into his powers and recover, but something held him back. Perhaps it was the thrill of the chase, or maybe a twisted curiosity about his captor's intentions. Instead, he decided to play the part of the frightened prey.

"Alright, alright! You've made your point!" he gasped, feigning fear as he raised his hands in surrender. "Just don't hurt me!"

The shadow paused, a flicker of surprise crossing their features. "Interesting tactic. But do you really think I'd fall for such a ruse?"

Lucifer's heart raced, but he maintained his facade. "I'm just a lowly Earthbringer. You don't need to waste your time on me. Let me go, and I promise I won't tell anyone about this."

The shadow narrowed their eyes, clearly weighing their options. "You're more valuable than you realize. But perhaps you're right; I could use a little leverage."

As the shadow lowered their guard, Lucifer seized the moment. With a sudden burst of adrenaline, he rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding another strike. He sprang to his feet, heart pounding, and bolted toward the nearest alleyway, the sound of pursuit echoing behind him.

"Run all you want, little mouse!" the shadow called, their voice a chilling reminder of the danger that lurked just behind him. "You can't escape your fate!"

Lucifer's mind raced as he navigated the labyrinth of the city, weaving through the chaos. He could hear the shadow's footsteps gaining on him, but he pushed himself harder, adrenaline fueling his escape. He needed to find a way to outsmart his pursuer.

As he turned a corner, he spotted a narrow passageway leading to a hidden courtyard. Without hesitation, he darted inside, pressing himself against the wall, trying to catch his breath. The sounds of the battle faded momentarily, replaced by the pounding of his heart.

"Where did you go?" the shadow's voice echoed, searching the area. "You can't hide forever!"

Lucifer held his breath, forcing himself to remain still. He could feel the tension in the air, the anticipation of the shadow's next move. He needed to act, to trick them into thinking he was still nearby.

"Over here!" he shouted, his voice echoing from the opposite direction. He quickly darted away from his hiding spot, using the shadows to his advantage.

The shadow, momentarily distracted, rushed toward the sound, giving Lucifer the precious seconds he needed. He slipped out of the courtyard and back into the chaos of the streets, blending into the shadows as he made his escape.

As he ran, a mix of exhilaration and fear coursed through him. He had survived, but the encounter left him shaken. The shadows were more dangerous than he had anticipated, and he couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning.

With the city burning around him, Lucifer knew he had to regroup, to plan his next move. The game was far from over, and he was determined to uncover the truth behind the shadows and their sinister intentions.
