One hour later, Yan Renzhong and Shen Jingwei left to return home.
When Shen Jingwei was eerily silent, Yan Renzhong reached out and squeezed his hand.
"What's wrong?" He asked. "Are you upset?"
Shen Jingwei's eyes were slightly red, bearing traces of unshed tears.
"No," he said. "I am just glad we found our way back to each other."
Yan Renzhong smiled.
"Likewise."
"I wonder," Shen Jingwei slowly said, "if Hua Xueying didn't break up with you, would you eventually marry her?"
Yan Renzhong's lips curled into a smile.
"It wouldn't be fair for her."
"How so?"
"Because I wasn't able to get over you, not for a lifetime. She will only be a substitute, and it is too cruel an ending for anyone."
"..."
But still, it was a preferable ending to being married to a violent man who mistreated her, right?
