She rushed forward then pulling him into a tight embrace, her hands clutching at his back as if afraid to let go of him."Oh, Erik, you're safe," she whispered with cracking voice. Tears streamed down her face as she held him and he felt the weight of her worry and fear in her grip. "I was so scared when you were gone... when the attack happened... I didn't know if you were—""I'm here, Mom," Erik assured her softly, resting his chin on her shoulder. "I'm fine. We made it."He forced a smile, though he could feel the heaviness in his own heart. He wanted to tell her everything and share the burden he carried, but he knew he couldn't. Not now, or ever.
