Chapter 34 - The Quests

Erik, Liam, and Mia exchanged puzzled glances. The name "Heimdall" didn't ring a bell for any of them. Yet, given the context and Thor's reverent tone it was clear that this Heimdall must be someone of great importance, likely another one of the gods.

"Who's Heimdall?" Mia finally asked, her voice tinged with curiosity. After all she had seen she wanted to know more about Asgard.

Thor smiled slightly.

"Heimdall is one of the most vigilant and wise gods in Asgard. He is the guardian of the Bifrost, the rainbow bridge that connects Asgard to the other realms. The one you used to come here.

"He can see and hear things from great distances, far beyond what any mortal or even most gods could comprehend. Heimdall has long been entrusted with safeguarding Asgard and he foresaw the coming of this conflict. It was his foresight and wisdom that led him to create the System, a tool to help you unlock your potential."

Erik, Liam, and Mia took a moment to absorb this information. Heimdall sounded like an extraordinary figure, one whose abilities and knowledge went far beyond anything they could imagine. He even created the System just like RPG games from their world. Heimdall looks like a cool guy in their mind.

"Can we meet him?" Liam asked.

Thor shook his head. "Not yet. Heimdall is still performing his duties. His task is crucial especially now when the realms are in such turmoil. But rest assured, when the time is right you will have the opportunity to speak with him. For now, your focus needs to be on the task at hand."

Erik nodded, understanding the gravity of Thor's words.

"And what is our task, exactly?" he asked.

Thor's expression grew serious as he looked at them.

"Your role in Ragnarok is not just to stand on the front lines and fight, though there will be plenty of that. Your true task is to locate the source of this anomaly that has thrown the realms into chaos."

He began to pace slowly in front of them, his gaze shifting to the horizon as he spoke.

"This anomaly—whatever it is—has begun to tear the fabric of reality itself. It is causing disturbances across the realms, weakening the barriers that protect them from the forces of chaos and destruction. Your job is to find the heart of this disturbance, the core where these disruptions are emanating from."

Erik, Liam, and Mia listened intently, the weight of their responsibility sinking in. This wasn't just about fighting monsters or defending Asgard. They were being tasked with something far more harder. They knew that it will be hard but hearing it directly still make them gulped in anxiety.

Thor stopped pacing and faced them again, his expression stern.

"Once you locate the source you must dive into it—literally and figuratively. You will need to face whatever lies at the heart of this anomaly, whether it's a being, a force, or something else entirely. Your Reincarnated Souls will be crucial in this, for they hold the power and knowledge you will need to succeed."

Mia furrowed her brow, trying to grasp the enormity of what Thor was asking.

"How do we even begin to find this anomaly?" Mia asked.

"It won't be easy. But you won't be alone. The gods of Asgard will aid you where we can and Heimdall's System will guide you, helping you track down the source of the disturbances and make you get used to your power."

Liam muttered a curse under his breath, his frustration boiling over.

"For that, we need to get stronger," he said. "And we need it fast. There's no way we can handle something like this with what we have now. The System alone isn't enough I guess."

Erik nodded in agreement. "Liam is right."

Thor who had been observing their conversation with a measured expression, suddenly broke into a wide grin. There was a spark of excitement in his eyes that made the air around him crackle with literal lightning.

"Well said! If you're ready to get stronger, then there's no time like the present. We can start your training right now!"

No sooner had the words left his mouth than a sudden shimmer filled the air in front of Erik, Liam, and Mia. Their eyes widened as a translucent window appeared in their vision, hovering just in front of them.

The familiar interface of the System was there, but this time it was different—there was a new prompt.

The trio stared at the quest window, absorbing the details.

Erik, Liam, and Mia couldn't help but feel the weight of what lay ahead. The objectives weren't just demanding, they were grueling.

The words "rigorous" and "grueling" echoed in their minds, casting a shadow over the initial excitement. This wasn't going to be easy.

A moment of silence passed as they absorbed the reality of the tasks before them. Erik felt a knot of anxiety tightening in his chest, while Mia's brow furrowed in concern.

But then Liam's face lit up.

"This will be hard. But think about it—this is our chance to become stronger than we ever imagined. I can see it... I can see myself becoming a warrior like in my dream, its really cool."

His enthusiasm was palpable and for a moment, it eased the burden they all felt. Erik glanced at him, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

Mia, too, couldn't help but shake her head with a soft sigh. "You're really something, Liam," she said, though her tone was more amused than dismissive.

"Alright, if you're that excited, then I guess we can't back down now," Erik said, running a hand through his hair as he prepared himself mentally.

Mia nodded, though her sigh was more resigned. "I suppose there's no point in worrying about it. We'll just have to give it everything we've got to protect what we want to protect."

Liam clapped a hand on Erik's shoulder, his grin never fading. "That's the spirit! We're going to crush this!"

With that, the three of them stood ready. Thor who looking at them smiling, but he knew that those smiles will be gone soon.
