The words on the page blur while I read about a medieval monastery and philosophical debate. The question of Jocelyn forgiving Damon seems tailor made for my reading material. Especially since Damon has trafficked with what you might call demonic entities, and Jocelyn herself ... well ... there's a whole Garden of Eden thing going on here. At least, you could view it that way.
"Forgive you for selling our child to hire someone to kill me?" Jocelyn asks softly.
Damon flinches. "Well, I wasn't going to put it like that ..."
Jocelyn has him in the grip of her coils, even without touching him. "Oh? Isn't part of amends-making recognizing what you did wrong and not just saying., 'My bad'?"
"Come on, you know I would never utter the words 'My bad' ..."
She stares at him through blue orbs. "Semantics, Damon, Don't parse words with me. Don't you think recognizing what you've done--"
"YES! All right!"
