When did my alarm clock have the option to wake me up with the sound of a fox barking?
I roll over and bury my head in the pillow, determined to go back to sleep.
More barking. I grope with my eyes closed and hit the snooze button. Ahhh. Just five more minutes, then coffee and a shower.
Bark. Bark. Bark.
My eyes fly open and I rotate toward the source of the barking--it's only Daji, barking in her sleep. So cute. I pull her against me, spooning her, and gently stroke her soft body, getting rounder with pregnancy. She stops barking instantly and relaxes in my embrace. Her hair smells of champagne and sweat and sex.
On the morning after my wedding, I feel fantastic. Stupendous. So amazing. Last night felt like a dream. With Daji curled up in my arms, nothing in the world can disturb me. The early morning sun peeks through the clouds and spreads its light across the room. All is peaceful and calm.
