Slowly, I awaken to find myself buried in blankets in my single bed, with the sound of Tina's snoring filling the room. I can already feel Daji awake and alert, and when I look up, she's sitting at a table in the room drinking tea and reading. Freshly brewed coffee perks me up.
I get my butt out of bed and go over to pour myself my dose of caffeine. Looking over at the big bed, I smile, seeing Tina curled up like a Golden Retriever puppy, clutching a pillow as she slumbers.
Daji glances up when I tiptoe over to the table and sit down. "I don't think she moved all night," she whispers.
"Yeah, I wouldn't mind if she commandeered our bed for another night, just to make her feel safe," I say.
An enormous grin breaks out on Daji's face. "Only if she wants it. She's a teenager, after all. They're known for wanting independence, and she's been denied that."
I growl. "If that 'father' of hers comes around here--"
