A lighthearted voice resounded instigating the comencement of the chess of luck game, "let the chess of luck game, begin."
Raphael then tturned to look at the world enders, he pointed at them as though he was hesitating, his hand hovering over everyone, some couldn't help but subconciously take a step back hoping to not be the first to be picked, bray wasn't too bothered by this, he just wanted the game for today to be over so that he could perfectly plan his escape to the next prison cell.
Soon after a moment of hesitating and silence, raphael finally sighed as his hand stopped on a young man from cell 5, "you, come over here, let's play a game of chess,"
"No, not me," the man muttered nervously shaking his head, "i don't know how to play chess, i havent even heard of it in my life." the man took multiple steps back as he spoke.
"Thats not an issue," raphael said with a sinister smile, "there is the rule book that teaches how to play it, you have a few minutes to read it and then come sit here lets play," raphael didn't give the man a chance to reject as he spoke, after that he left his seat, coming down from the elevated platform which they were sitting on, he went ahead and sat on the stool next to the chessboard, drumming his fingers as though waiting for something.
The young man that was chosen walked forward at uneven steps, he picked up the white book from the stack and begun speed reading. Soon silence enveloped the room as only rapid breathing could be heard, after a few minutes of silence the man went forward and sat over him, at the side of the white pieces, while raphael was seated by the black pieces.
Raphael who had closed his eyes as soon as the yougn man began reading the book opened them and then gestured at the man, "go ahead."
The young man hesitated for a moment and under bray's gaxe he dipped his hand into the lot box, after moving his hand about for a few moments he then removed a piece of paper. He opened it slowly, it was number two, seems i am quite lucky. The man smiled inwardly.
He placed his hand on a pawn in front and moved it to the d4 square, after that he moved a second pawn to e4, he was just moving on instinct, not knowing he had claimed the center.
Bray watched everything calmly as the chess of luck game began, he had already read the mans stats from the day before and even now, he knew that the man possessed a luck value of 3, he might win, but only if his game play is slightly better.
This game truly seems quite interesting, why didn't think of creating such a way of playing chess back on earth, bray was truly fascinated by this new method of playing chess as he saw both raphael and the young man move their pieces.
At first the young man picked two in a row, while raphael picked one then two, after that it became rotational, the game seemed fast paced, when one of then had two moves, they would imediately take a piece with the first and withdraw it with the second, soon the game peaked, the queens came out of the board, the bishops were next and then the knights, it was just a couple of pawn, the king and the rooks that were left.
The game progressed very slowly from this moment as both parties took some time to select a particular move to play, after a few more minutes of playing the game ended in a draw. The young man sighed in relief as he took a step back, he couldn't help it he was truly happy, he had survived the events of today, albeit by a small margin.
Raphael suddenly kicked the seat as though he wasn't happy about something, "this game is too slow, let's make it faster, each person has thirty minutes to play, if your time runs out then it will be considered as your loss, but if any of the guards run out of time then it will be considered as your win."
"Of course if you win within the given period of time then it isyour win, and if you loss, then you have lost and you will be killed mercilessly."
As soon as the guards finished speaking everyone couldn't help but look at the grinning young man in envy, they were extremely jealous of his luck, now he didn't have to play under pressure unlike them, now they wished they could have been choxen to play first, if only they could go back in time and remake their decision.
Unfortunately there was no medicine for regret and even if there was, it wasn't available to them currently.
Bray sighed and wasn't too bothered about this new development, in fact he had expected something like this, for someone like me that use to play bullet, a 1 minute chess game and mostly win them, thirty minutes can be considered an extremely easy thing to do.
After making the new announcement of the new development, raphael walked away, back to his seat, another guard stood up, it was raphael, he looked at everyone for a moment even pausing at bray, his gaxe then lingered on sloven, after thinking for a moment he selected sloven and then went to sit down next to the chessboard and begin arranging the chess pieces.
Sloven didn't waste his time but his gaxe become extremely solemn, bray saw him clentch his fist as though steeling his resolve to win this match, sloven then walked up, luckily he was someone that could play chess, he could be considered to be adept at it as well.
I wonder if he chose to play against sloven because of me, would he want to kill sloven off? No, wait, why would i consider that thought, bray shook his head immediately ignoring this line of thought but then he suddenly thought of something, his ability is lunatic, what if it affects his mentality and he feels the need to kill off sloven?
Would sloven be able to survive this and come out victorious in this chess of luck game? What could ray's plan for choosing sloven be? Bray felt a wave of confusion and curiousity as he looked on to see who would come out as the winner of this chess game.
To be continued…
