Chapter 17 - the unstoppable Aduru Michi and Nightmare Jin

Word spread quickly of Aduru Michi's return—a figure cloaked in mystery and fear, whose power made him untouchable. Hakishi, Lee, Aki, and Dom gathered in a secluded forest clearing, their weapons and minds sharp. They knew this confrontation was inevitable, but none of them had ever defeated Aduru.

Hakishi paced, his expression grim. "Aduru's not like anyone we've faced. Every time we've tried to fight him, it's like he's invincible."

Dom cracked his knuckles. "Invincible, huh? Sounds like a challenge."

"Don't underestimate him," Aki warned, sharpening his blade. "He doesn't fight with brute force. It's like he's always ten steps ahead."

Lee tightened his grip on his weapon, determination etched on his face. "Then we'll figure out how to stop him. Together."

A Dark Reunion

As the sun dipped below the horizon, shadows slithered into the clearing, heralding the arrival of their foes. Aduru Michi stepped forward, his form emanating an aura of sheer dominance. Dressed in flowing black robes, his crimson eyes seemed to pierce through their souls. Beside him emerged Nightmare, his form more monstrous than before, tendrils of shadow writhing around him.

"It's almost amusing," Aduru said, his voice cold and condescending. "You're still trying to fight battles you can't win."

Nightmare chuckled darkly. "And yet, they're here. Brave or foolish—it hardly matters."

Hakishi stepped forward, his Phantom Edge glowing. "Aduru. Nightmare. This ends here."

Aduru's lips curved into a faint smirk. "You'll find that's easier said than done."

The Fight Begins

Hakishi, Lee, Aki, and Dom sprang into action, coordinating their attacks. Aki darted toward Aduru with blinding speed, his blade aimed at the enemy's chest. But as he struck, his sword passed harmlessly through Aduru's form, as if he weren't even there.

"What the—?" Aki staggered back, confused.

Aduru countered effortlessly, a mere wave of his hand sending Aki flying into a tree.

Nightmare intercepted Dom, who charged with a thunderous roar. Dom's powerful punch struck Nightmare's chest, creating a shockwave that rattled the clearing. But instead of staggering, Nightmare absorbed the impact, laughing cruelly. "You're going to need more than that, brute."

Nightmare retaliated, his tendrils lashing out like whips. Dom dodged the first few, but one wrapped around his ankle, hurling him into the ground with crushing force.

Lee and Hakishi teamed up against Aduru, launching a synchronized assault. Hakishi's Phantom Edge and Lee's strikes moved in perfect harmony, aiming for every opening. But every attack passed through Aduru as though he were a mirage.

"Is that the best you've got?" Aduru taunted, his voice dripping with disdain. "You can't touch me. You never could."

The Power of Fear

Nightmare joined Aduru, his shadows intertwining with Aduru's aura. The combination of their powers created an oppressive force that weighed heavily on the heroes.

Lee lunged at Nightmare, his blade cutting through the shadows. For a moment, it seemed like he landed a hit, but Nightmare simply reformed, unharmed. "You can't destroy fear," Nightmare said, his voice echoing ominously.

Aki recovered and tried a flanking maneuver, but Aduru seemed to anticipate every move. "Predictable," Aduru said, striking Aki with a blast of energy that sent him sprawling.

Dom attempted another earth-shaking punch, but Aduru sidestepped effortlessly, his movements impossibly fluid. "Brute force isn't enough," Aduru said. "You lack strategy, intelligence... purpose."

---

Overwhelmed

The fight grew more desperate as the heroes continued to attack, only to find their efforts futile. Hakishi's blades sliced through the air, leaving glowing trails of light, but none of them landed. Lee's precision strikes, Dom's explosive punches, and Aki's assassin techniques all fell short.

Meanwhile, Nightmare and Aduru toyed with them, their combined powers creating a relentless onslaught. Nightmare's tendrils coiled and struck like serpents, while Aduru's energy blasts targeted each hero's weak points.

"Do you understand now?" Aduru said, his voice calm amidst the chaos. "You're fighting forces beyond your comprehension. You can't win."

Hakishi gritted his teeth, his frustration boiling over. "We don't have to win. We just need to keep fighting!"

Nightmare laughed. "How noble. But this is your last stand."

---

Retreat

With their energy drained and their attacks ineffective, the heroes began to falter. Dom was pinned under a shadow construct, Aki's blade was shattered, and Lee was on his knees, gasping for breath.

Hakishi stood alone, his Phantom Edge flickering. Aduru stepped forward, his presence suffocating. "This is over. The next time we meet, you won't be so fortunate."

Nightmare loomed behind him, his eyes glowing with malice. "Run along now. Savor what little time you have left."

Aduru and Nightmare vanished into the shadows, leaving the clearing in eerie silence.

---

Regrouping

The team regrouped, battered and demoralized. Dom groaned as he pushed the shadow construct off his chest. "Well, that sucked."

Aki sat against a tree, his broken blade in his lap. "We couldn't even touch them. What are we supposed to do now?"

Lee clenched his fists, his frustration evident. "We can't give up. There has to be a way to fight them."

Hakishi nodded, his expression resolute despite the pain. "We'll find it. Aduru and Nightmare might seem invincible, but they're not unstoppable. We just need to figure out how."

As the team tended to their wounds, the gravity of their challenge loomed over them. But in the face of despair, their determination burned brighter than ever.

They had lost this battle, but the war was far from over.
