"Guess what?"
I could hear her excited voice from the kitchen.
"You know how bad my grades are when it comes to guess work, so spill the beans."
I said with a smile.
"Let's have our meal first. I'm so famished."
She said teasingly and I had to roll my eyes because that was just her way of making me hooked, then at the end she would laugh it off.
We sat down and had our meals. Afterwards, I picked up the book I was reading and continued.
"Freda, I just remembered something."
Molly said, as she stood up from the bed and walked towards me with her gaze on the phone.
"I have good news for you and trust me you will like it"
She added as she yanked the book from me in esctacity.
"Okay, I'm listening since you don't want my attention to be divided," I said to her, wearing a fake frown.
"Okay, there's this job vacancy that I saw on my way to work today, so I decided to get the necessary details. So, Dalton group is looking for a competent lady who can perform the role of a personal assistant. So, I need you to get prepared for the interview which is tomorrow." she said as she took a seat beside me.
"This is the best news I have heard for today" I said to myself with a hopeful smile.
"So that means I will be able to raise money for an apartment before Molly's roommate gets back."
I thought to myself.
"Thank you so much, I really love you" I squealed happily as I took the book from her and went to get my bag for the necessary arrangements.
—------------------------------------------------------
I was already up to fix breakfast and get ready for the interview.
Molly is such a nice friend, calm and has a beautiful soul. She radiates peace and kindness effortlessly. It's her attentiveness for me. She finds joy in little things. Being around her gives me a smooth and warmth encounter. She really deserves to be treated like a queen.
"You are already leaving?" Molly asked from the room door
"Yes ma" I replied with a smile on my already excited face.
I took my bag as I glanced at myself in the mirror and left for the door.
—-----—-----------------
I arrived at the company, and magnificent was an understatement for the capacity of the building.
I must confess that this place was way bigger than I expected.
"Please sir, I'm here for the job interview."I said to the security personnel.
"Go in through the entrance, take the elevator to the last floor and wait at the reception room with other applicants."
He instructed.
"Thank you."
I mouthed as I took off, feeling excited and somehow hopeful.
I took the elevator and went to the reception as directed. I was amazed at the large number of applicants I saw.
I took my seat at a corner till it was my turn to go in.
"Look who we have here."
The man whom I assumed to be the interviewer said as he swiveled his chair to face me.
"Good morning sir." I greeted in confusion as my heart raced at the thought of him having a bad impression of me already.
"If I didn't watch you beat that guy to a pulp the day before yesterday and those couples at the restaurant, I would have mistaken you to be the calmest person I have met so far."
he said now looking into his laptop.
I looked away in anxiety, thinking of how he knew that.
"I know you are wondering how I got to know you and your actions."
He said as if he was reading my mind.
"I'm the guy from the other day whom my driver almost knocked you down. I've had my eyes on you since that day."
He said, pulling out a file from the drawer.
"What do you mean, Sir?"
I asked visibly disturbed by the angle from which everything was coming from.
"I found your character quite interesting, and since then, have been watching you from a close range."
You know you're so audacious and fearless to have beaten up the grandson of the powerful Dalton Thomas and still show up at his family's company."
He said with a chuckle.
"What were you thinking of?"
He raised his voice, his face now wearing a scowl.
I was shocked to my marrow as I couldn't even utter a word,my hands were tight as I couldn't figure out what to say or do at the moment.
I stood there with a remorseful and regretful look, as I thought of the weight of my actions. The Daltons were one of the most powerful billionaires in Detroit.
Messing with one of them, meant trouble with the whole family. It was reported that one time, they locked up a man who bashed their car mistakenly, and still took his daughter to serve as a slave in their mansion as payback for her father's action. This is how powerful and mean they were.
Fear overshadowed me as I shoke visibly, waiting for him to decide my fate as I brought upon myself this mess.
"Have a seat and tell me what brings you to my office today."
He said as his gaze was now fixated on the screen of the computer before him.
"I stumbled on the company's job vacancy flier and I decided to give it a try, since I was fired from my former place of work. I'm sorry, sir. I did not know that he was one of the Daltons. Please forgive me."
I said weakly.
He gave me a stare and rolled the wheels of his seat backwards.
"What makes you think or feel that we need a fighter or a hot tempered person as a personal assistant?"
He asked, giving me a bombastic look.
"I promise not to cause damages or do anything drastic to ruin the company's reputation."
I responded pleadingly.
He paused for some second and then stood up and walked to the window, then turned to me and said, "I think I have a better offer for you."
My heart started beating fast as I was already thinking of what the offer could be.
I had a lot of unanswered questions running through my mind, as I was already sweating profusely.
"Like I said earlier, you messed with a Dalton. And normally, you should be punished for that, because Jeremy is lying down unconscious in the hospital as we speak. And his parents are looking for that unfortunate being who put their son in such a situation."
He said as he put his hands in his pocket pacing around.
"Please Sir, I would not want to kindle the wrath of the Daltons on myself. what do I do?"
I pleaded, pressing my palms together.
"The only thing you have to do, to save yourself from their wrath, is to MARRY ME."
