"I have Green Blood implanted in my body?"
Looking at the report in his hand, Carl recalled some things about green blood.
Because this report was made by Vegapunk, he also wrote some of his own opinions in it, which allowed Carl to better understand the role of green blood in his body.
In the original work, green blood was used by Vegapunk on the Seraphim, allowing them to replicate the abilities of Devil Fruits. To put it bluntly, Green Blood is a carrier for the bloodline factor of ability users. However, the Green Blood used on Carl did not carry the bloodline factor of an ability user but instead contained the bloodline factors of two special races: the Mink Tribe and the Lunarians race.
The Green Blood used for Carl was the original version. Compared to what was later used on the Seraphim, this first-generation green blood was more powerful but also more violent. It had extremely high requirements for the host's physique, and Vegapunk was not prepared to put it into use. In his opinion, the first-generation Green Blood was essentially a potent poison.
However, Darian attached great importance to the ability of Green Blood to carry bloodline factors, and he believed that the bloodline of the Figarland family was strong enough to resist the power of Green Blood. So, he immediately injected Carl with blood containing the factors of both the Mink Tribe and the Lunarians race.
For Green Blood to be implanted, it must be done while the host is still a child and the body is developing. During this period, the bloodline factors can fully integrate, maximizing the potential.
From Carl's current state, this conclusion seemed accurate. The degree of integration of the Mink Tribe's bloodline factors was high, and Carl could perform discharges and moonlight transformations better than the average Mink Tribe member.
However, the Lunarians race traits had not yet manifested in Carl. He speculated this was due to the Lunarians race's bloodline factors being of a higher grade than those of the Mink Tribe, requiring more time to take effect. The Lunarians were known as "Gods" capable of adapting to various natural environments and had their own Flame-Flame Fruit, allowing them to switch between defense and speed modes—strengths that placed them among the top races in the pirate world.
After reading the report, Carl was silent for a moment before saying suddenly, "Uncle Garling, summon Vegapunk."
Garling quickly sent someone to fetch Vegapunk, then asked Carl, "Have you changed your mind? Do you still want to kill Vegapunk?"
Carl shook his head. "No, I just need to confirm something with him."
Before long, Vegapunk was brought in. At this time, Vegapunk had not yet divided into six clones. He entered with his notably exaggerated forehead and an expression of resignation.
He stood before Garling and Carl, gazed at Carl for a long moment, and said slowly, "Saint Carl, you called me here to execute me, didn't you?"
Carl looked at Vegapunk with interest. "Oh? So you're prepared to die?"
Vegapunk nodded. "Yes, everything I did to you back then went against my scientific principles. I regret all of it."
"But Darian forced you, didn't he? What did he threaten you with?" Carl asked.
"My hometown, Baldimore."
Carl recalled the place. In the original story, Kuma had taken Franky there. Carl's hand darkened as flames flickered around it, and he whispered, "So that's it… Are you ready to die?"
Vegapunk remained silent, though a look of reluctance crossed his face. He still had much important research to complete and didn't want to die.
Seeing him stay silent, Carl gestured, and darkness began to spread, engulfing Vegapunk's feet as he sank. Garling sipped his tea, watching quietly.
Just as the darkness reached Vegapunk's upper body, he shouted, "Saint Carl! Give me more time!"
Carl, his chin resting on his hand, watched as only Vegapunk's head remained visible.
"Why?" he asked.
Struggling to breathe, Vegapunk looked up. "I still need to examine your physical condition further… and I have unfinished research."
Carl smiled, releasing Vegapunk from the darkness. "What research are you talking about? Artificial Devil Fruits? Cloning?"
Vegapunk hesitated but soon accepted Carl's knowledge of his work. However, Garling was visibly surprised, he hadn't told Carl about Vegapunk's projects.
Vegapunk nodded. "Yes, both are ongoing, and I've made some progress."
Vegapunk's scientific prowess was unmatched in the pirate world, either of his research lines could occupy another scientist for a lifetime. Yet he tackled both simultaneously, yielding results.
Carl recalled Vegapunk's later inventions—outrageous things like space jumps and artificial beings. Had he been born on Earth, he'd be seen as an Einstein-like figure.
Carl glanced at Vegapunk. Without reading the comics, one might even think Vegapunk was Einstein himself.
Vegapunk stood, anxiously awaiting Carl's verdict. Carl turned to Garling. "Uncle Garling, I want to visit the research institute with him."
Garling nodded. "Go ahead. I'll inform Saturn. But don't stay too long. You're home rarely—let's have dinner tonight."
Vegapunk looked at Garling in surprise, this wasn't how he remembered Garling speaking.
Carl smiled, rising from his chair. "Got it, Uncle Garling. I'll take a look and join you for a drink later."
