Chapter 1 - 1 - Whispers in my ear 1

*

An endless expanse, a foreign land beyond comprehension. A sky of lavender, a forest of bones, a hill of flesh. A sensation of floating in the cyan clouds under that very sky envelope her body, in fact it restrained her. Without any gravity, she couldn't cling onto anything or keep herself still, losing all sense of direction as she spun continuously.

"A weird... Dream...?" (?)

She reaches her hand out sluggishly, as if thoroughly examining it. Scrutinising her own arm? She didn't understand why she did it either, but something felt off about them. Unsettling, why? Were her nails always this long and black? They were sharpened to a point, like knives ready to tear into the skin of cooking ingredients. Visually, she felt like they were incredibly sharp, instilling a slight discomfort from the anxiety of getting cut.

The scene flashed, there was no longer any natural light. Brick after layered brick, only darkness. Yet it was vast and intricate, an infrastructure that never seemed to have an entrance nor an exit. A labyrinth of a strangely homely environment, if anyone were to live here they must not have needed any light. Some fixtures like benches and tables could be seen strewn across everywhere, as well as numerous doors that were nearly demolished.

Collapse, the place was in an utter mess. I felt a tinge of an urge, a slight shiver that pushes me to clean... To pick up the lone brick over there and place it back upon the wall...

That's when I woke up. My body felt cold. As if all of that mental activity occurred ages ago, as if I hadn't dreamt for a long time. I picked up my hand and my groggy mind, lifting it into the air, almost as if to verify its existence. Her wish... I know her wish, yet who is she?

Who am I? Ah... Well, it doesn't matter who I am. I am not anyone who is particularly important. An average student at an average school, I would have lived out the rest of my life without achieving more. I don't have any sort of childhood friends, and having started a new year at a new school naturally led to me having no friends...

The bustle and cacophony of dialogue floods the halls and stairs. My legs carry me along a long corridor, almost automatically from having traversed this same route so many times. my thoughts cloud my conscious, drowning out the noise before I finally arrive at my destination. A door that seemed so small from afar, but intimidating and large now that I've closed the distance.

I could feel from her heart, an endless and selfless love. What is it that I am feeling? Who is she? Her warmth seeps through, and I'm reacting to it, but I don't know what my response is... Once again, what do I feel?

I clasped my fingers upon the handle, its metallic frigidity saps the heat from my palm as I drew the door open. Faint light leaked out as the open windows of the classroom illuminated the corridor. Preoccupied by my daily life, I'm temporarily unplagued by her presence.

"..! Lastia! We've been waiting for you." (?)

Her hair was a deep shade of greyish blue, as vibrant as the night and it was as imperceptible as it is dark. Only under the brilliant halation illuminated by the side windows could we see a slightly more obvious shade of blue. Her eyes were the same colour, like thick sapphire sprinkled with black stars. Her name was Arin.

"Hmph... About time. I just about got tired of waiting." (?)

Jet black hair, straight as a street lamp, the strands flush down her back like a waterfall. Her eyes were rather sharp and cold as opposed to Arin's dolly bit eyes and bubbly contours. Sariel. She wore a light grey jacket above her uniform, it maintained a distinctive silhouette above the school cardigan and top. Our uniform was similar to a 2 piece suit with a knee lengthed skirt.

Lastia.. I suppose that was my name. I'm really glad to have such great friends... Ever since I had that weird dream, I couldn't remember my own name. The words were strange, I couldn't understand those words I saw. Miraculously their meaning filled my mind, as if I was comprehending by muscle memory. My comprehension is entirely etched into my soul, beyond even my body.

Right... There was so much going on, but I should head back to reality. Arin and Sariel is waiting for me. An endless cloudy space with cyan clouds and no gravity, a foreign land of unidentified mega fauna and flora, a hill of flesh, a forest of bones... For now, I feel like i shouldn't mention these things. They might think I'm too weird.

"Morning! Arin, Sariel. Sorry... I was up late reading, so I didn't exactly get the best sleep..." (Lastia)

"That's alright, but... We don't have much time to talk, class is about to start." (Sariel)

Whenever the clock strikes 8am, our homeroom teacher would enter the classroom, she had always entered at this time without pause. Following our zombie-like routined movements, we stood up and greeted the teacher before sitting back dow-

'ssspsshurassshhhtaaa' (-?-)

*BANG*

I made it look like I lost my footing as I tumbled onto the right, kicking the table and chair into a cacophony and heavy plastics smashing against the ground. Turning my gaze to where I sat earlier. There was now a large black tendril with a diameter of 1 metre sunked deep into the ground. If not for my preemptived movement, it would have effortlessly passed through my body and smashed it into paste. It was moving at such a speed that made car crashes look slow.

If not for those whispers... They irritated my mind and made me instinctively spasm off my initial position... Rather, I really did tumble away from danger... Its length arched far into the sky, drawing the gazes of everyone to its origin. It came through the roof. Immediately after, the ceiling was sucked out to reveal the deep light blue sky, it ironically looked beautiful under the mortal danger plagueing my heart with crisis.

Under that sky was a presence no one could expect. A large mass of black, disgustingly unnerving as it writhed around like buldging veins. A monster... It was too incomprehensible to be assign any name. I could only simply think of 'monster', and 'I don't want to die'.
