Chapter 4: The Ancient Texts
Kae delved deeper into the chamber, their eyes scanning the shelves for any mention of the Black Legion. Lena followed close behind, her eyes fixed on Kae's back.
As they walked, the air grew thick with dust, and the smell of old parchment filled their nostrils. Kae's fingers trailed over the spines of the books, a strange energy emanating from them.
Suddenly, a book fell from the shelf, landing with a soft thud on the stone floor. Kae bent to pick it up, blowing off the dust.
The cover was old and worn, the title etched in a language Kae didn't understand. But as they opened the book, the words shifted, revealing a message in plain sight.
"The Black Legion rises," Kae read aloud, their voice barely above a whisper. "With darkness and shadow, they will consume the city."
Lena's eyes locked on Kae's, her face pale.
"What else does it say?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Kae's eyes scanned the page, their heart racing.
"It speaks of a ritual," they said, their voice firm. "A ritual to summon an ancient power."
Lena's eyes widened.
"We can't let that happen," she said, her voice firm.
Kae nodded, their mind racing.
"We need to find out more," they said, their eyes scanning the shelves. "There must be another book, one that holds the secrets of the ritual."
Lena nodded, and together they began to search, their hearts pounding in unison.
As they delved deeper into the chamber, the air grew thick with anticipation. They knew they were running out of time.
But they refused to give up.
Kae's eyes scanned the shelves, their heart racing with anticipation. They knew they were close to uncovering the secrets of the ritual.
Suddenly, Lena gasped, her hand reaching out to touch Kae's arm.
"Look," she whispered, her eyes fixed on a book bound in black leather.
Kae's heart skipped a beat as they pulled the book from the shelf. The cover was adorned with symbols of darkness and shadow.
"This is it," Kae said, their voice barely above a whisper. "This is the book we've been searching for."
Lena nodded, her eyes locked on Kae's.
As they opened the book, the air grew thick with an eerie energy. The words on the page seemed to shift and writhe, like living things.
"The ritual of the Black Legion," Kae read aloud, their voice firm. "A summoning of ancient power, born of darkness and shadow."
Lena's eyes widened as Kae continued to read.
"It requires five sacrifices," Kae said, their voice grim. "Five souls to fuel the ritual."
Lena's face paled.
"We can't let that happen," she said, her voice firm.
Kae nodded, their mind racing.
"We need to find out where the ritual will take place," they said, their eyes scanning the page.
Lena nodded, her eyes locked on Kae's.
As they delved deeper into the book, the air grew thick with tension. They knew they were running out of time.
But they refused to give up.
"We have to stop the ritual," Kae said, their voice firm. "No matter what it takes."
Lena nodded, her eyes burning with determination.
Together, they vowed to save the city from the darkness that threatened to consume it.
