Chapter 22 - ch 21 : Lin vs oni

Lin stepped into the dungeon, the atmosphere thick with tension. The long, dimly lit corridor stretched before him, lined with countless doors, each marked with a number. It felt like an eerie maze, each door hiding a potential threat. As he glanced around, his eyes locked onto the door labeled "1."

Pushing it open, Lin found himself in a room that resembled a prison cell—cold, small, and unsettling. Before he could fully take in his surroundings, he sensed movement behind him. Instinctively, Lin dodged to the side just as a man lunged at him. Without missing a beat, Lin spun around and delivered a powerful roundhouse kick, knocking the attacker out cold. The man crumpled to the ground and, to Lin's surprise, disintegrated into nothingness.

"That was too easy," Lin muttered to himself, feeling a bit underwhelmed.

"They're not your real opponents," the system's robotic voice echoed in his mind. "Your true challenge lies with the dungeon boss."

Hearing this, Lin's resolve hardened. He moved through the corridor, entering room after room. Each time, more men appeared—stronger, faster, but still no match for him. His movements were precise, each punch and kick delivered with lethal efficiency. The further he progressed, the tougher his opponents became, but Lin didn't slow down. He took them all down, one by one, until he finally reached the last door.

Opening it, Lin stepped into a large chamber. The air was thick with the scent of sweat and blood. In the center of the room, on top of a pile of bodies—each one of them the men Lin had just defeated—sat a familiar figure, exuding an aura of confidence and menace.

"Park Gun," Lin whispered, recognizing him instantly.

Park Gun's eyes gleamed with a dark intensity as he slowly stood up, his lips curling into a sinister smile.

Lin's feet felt rooted to the ground as he locked eyes with Park Gun, who stood before him, smirking with unshaken confidence. The room was charged with anticipation, each breath heavy with the weight of what was about to unfold.

"So, you're the one they sent to challenge me?" Park Gun taunted, his voice dripping with disdain. "I expected more."

Lin's expression remained calm, but his eyes flashed with determination. "Keep underestimating me," he replied, his voice steady. "You'll regret it."

Park Gun chuckled darkly, a sound that sent a chill down Lin's spine. "We'll see."

With that, the fight erupted.

From the moment the battle started, Lin was on the defensive. Park Gun moved with a precision and speed that were almost impossible to keep up with. Each strike came with lethal intent, and Lin found himself barely able to block or dodge in time. Every hit he took sent shockwaves through his body, the pain intensifying with each passing second.

Gun's smirk only widened as he effortlessly dodged Lin's counterattacks. "Is this really all you've got?" he sneered, sending Lin crashing into the wall with a brutal sidekick. "You're nothing compared to me."

Lin groaned, wiping the blood from his mouth as he pushed himself back to his feet. His ribs ached with every breath, and the sharp pain threatened to overwhelm him. He had never felt so outmatched. As gun moved to finish him off, something deep inside Lin began to stir-a cold, calculating voice echoing in his mind.

"You're not done yet, Lin."

The system's voice cut through the pain, and Lin felt a strange energy welling up inside him, unlike anything he had felt before. It was as if every fiber of his being was suddenly awakened, ready to fight back.

As Gun's fist came down, aiming to end the fight, Lin's body moved on its own. Time seemed to slow, his senses sharpening to a razor's edge. He sidestepped Gun's attack, his movements fluid and precise, leaving Gun momentarily stunned.

"What the-?" Gun started, but Lin didn't give him a chance to finish.

With newfound speed and power, Lin delivered a swift uppercut that connected with Gun's jaw, the force of the blow snapping his head back. Gun staggered, clearly not expecting Lin to recover so quickly.

Ding! "Congratulations!! The user has ascended," the system chimed, and Lin felt a surge of power coursing through his veins.

Lin didn't hesitate. He launched a series of strikes at Park Gun, each blow landing with a force that shook the room. Gun, caught off guard, was forced to retreat as Lin's relentless assault continued. With a well-placed heel kick to the chin, Lin sent Gun staggering backward.

But just as Lin thought he was gaining the upper hand, Gun's smirk returned, more sinister than before. "Not bad, you're strong, Lin," Gun admitted, wiping the blood from his lip. "But let's see how you handle this."

With a menacing grin, Gun's aura shifted. His movements became faster, more precise, and more dangerous. In an instant, he activated his Ultra Instinct mode, blurring out of sight and reappearing right in front of Lin.

Lin barely had time to react as Gun's fist slammed into his face, the impact nearly breaking his nose. Lin staggered back, clutching his face as blood trickled from his nostrils. The gap between them was immense-Gun was toying with him, testing his limits.

Before Lin could recover, Gun was on him again, landing a series of brutal punches and kicks that left Lin bloodied and bruised. Every strike was calculated to inflict maximum damage, and Lin found himself overwhelmed, barely able to defend himself.

"Haha! Where's your strength now?" Gun taunted, his voice dripping with malice. "Do you see the difference between us now?"

Lin's mind raced as he struggled to stay conscious. The pain was unbearable, but amidst the chaos, a faint chuckle escaped his lips.

"You really did the thing I said," Lin muttered, his voice weak but laced with defiance.

Gun paused, confusion flashing across his face. "What are you talking about?"

"Thanks for underestimating me, dumbass!" Lin shouted, summoning all his remaining strength. He quickly grabbed Gun, locking him in a headlock. Though Gun easily broke free, Lin wasn't done yet. He swiftly shifted his stance, using Mujin Sserieum to throw Gun across the chamber.

Gun rolled to his feet, clearly shocked by the sudden shift in Lin's tactics. He smiled, but it was a smile filled with malice. "To think you were hiding your true power... I'm genuinely impressed. But if you think this will make a difference, you're sorely mistaken."

Lin wiped the blood from his mouth, his breath heavy but his resolve unbroken. "I don't need to be stronger than you, Gun. I just need to be smarter."

The battle wasn't over yet, but Lin was determined to prove that strength alone wasn't enough to bring him down.
