Chapter 2 - Conflicts and Progress

That night, they left Amasya with a small caravan of valuables that they could carry, accompanied by 500 guards. The plan was simple; take advantage of the darkness to kill the small scouting units that the enemy had placed on their way and quickly reach the large port area before sunrise.

The large port area was not plundered by Timur's army. The reason for this was that the tribes that were the former owners of the area would settle here again. After all, they had changed sides and attacked the Ottomans' left rear wing at the most critical moment of the war for Timur.

Normally, such situations never happened in the Ottoman Empire. For example, some vassal armies gathered from the Balkan (European) lands of the Ottoman Empire fought to the end alongside Sultan Bayezid in the war, despite their different cultures and religions.

'The tragicomic part of the matter is that my father's most trusted children were the first to retreat from the battlefield. He never valued me and made me the governor of a city with very little income. That's why I could barely gather and arm these 500 soldiers.'

All the tribes that had betrayed the Ottomans were now trying to settle in their former lands. If the Ottomans had fought this war 10 years later, they would probably have been the winners. Because not much time had passed since the tribes were conquered. Their hearts had not yet warmed to the Ottomans.

'Well, conquering so much land in such a short time is both an achievement and a heavy burden. They didn't give my father the nickname Yıldırım for nothing. He had captured all the lands with lightning speed. Now we are dealing with his troubles.'

Hamza Çavuş had already killed large and small groups with the vanguard. Suddenly he ordered the army to stop. Murat approached to ask what had happened.

"My prince, there are many campfire lights ahead. There are probably more than 50 soldiers there. If we are going to attack, we have to make sure they are all dead. Even if one of them escapes, we will be discovered earlier than we want. Do you have any ideas?"

Hamza Çavuş was nervous like everyone else. After all, no one wanted to be caught so close to escaping.

" Use all 400 soldiers. First surround them and then attack. I will lay a wider siege with the remaining men just in case. Advance fast and hard!"

Murat took a clear and determined stance, living up to the training he received. When Sergeant Hamza saw this, he couldn't help but nod his head inwardly.

(Although our prince is young, he has the makings of a ruler. I hope we can see the end of this together.)

"Yes sir! We'll start right away."

While Sergeant Hamza silently led the soldiers, Murat began to disperse the soldiers along the paths the enemy could escape to.

....

"Hey, did you hear? Sultan Bayezid has been captured alive."

A soldier was quite excited as he shared the news he had just heard.

"Ah, I heard it too. After the right and left wings of the army collapsed and fled, Bayezid retreated to the hill in the battlefield with ten thousand janissaries (the regular army of the Ottomans) forming the center of the army. The battle continued until nightfall. Sultan Bayezid took advantage of this and fled with his close guards. But one of us noticed this and shot his horse with an arrow. You already know the rest."

The corporal in charge of the nine people there was boasting about his knowledge.

"Oh, as expected from a corporal. You are always knowledgeable."

The first soldier who spoke did not stop himself from praising his boss while saying this.

"Hahaha, you can gather this kind of information more easily as your rank increases. I even got information about Bayezid's children from the captain. They say that Timur gave each prince a sul-"

Crack~

Crack ~

Before the corporal could finish his sentence, he and the soldier who spoke received two arrows.

At that moment, arrows started flying from all sides.

"Enemy attack!! Enemy attack!! Take cover!!"

"Ah"

"Damn"

Crack~

Crack ~

Arrow fire rained down on the defenseless soldiers for thirty seconds without stopping. Before they could recover from the shock and losses they had suffered, Hamza Sergeant and his soldiers advanced to slaughter them.

"Don't leave any of them alive!! Avenge every soldier who died!! Haaa!!"

The Sergeant was especially diligent as he advanced.

"Kill for our dead! Shoot for our lost ones!!"

"Ahh!!"

"Don't stop, advance! None of them can escape, attack!"

Murat couldn't help but feel his blood boiling as he watched from afar. His soldiers quickly defeated the enemy, using their advantage of surging to the fullest. All of the small-scale resistance was easily dispersed.

The battle lasted only less than six minutes. All of the enemy who escaped by taking advantage of the chaos were either captured or killed by the second siege unit.

Those who were captured were brought in for questioning. While his teacher İbrahim personally conducted the interrogation, Hamza directed the bandaging of the wounded soldiers with clean cloths.
