Sonya
I honestly wanted to go after Kelvin but I knew it wouldn't change anything. Kelvin has always acted cool, no matter how annoyed he is but today was different. I knew that he was really angry and if I confronted him immediately, it wouldn't be pretty. So I sat down and continued to sob in regret. Dad was confused about what Kelvin was talking about, so he asked me and I had to tell him the truth about everything.
When I was done narrating, I expected him to also rant about how bad I've been but he just smiled, shook his head slowly and chuckled.
"The crazy things we do for love," he chuckled. "I'm not going to say anything about this. Wipe your tears and let's inform Olivia's relatives about her death."
I wiped my tears and sniffed when I was done. "Alright."
It was very heartbreaking when I called Olivia's mother to inform her of her daughter's death. She didn't believe me initially but when I explained the situation further, she started weeping and hanged up. I never knew the day would come when I would call Dennis. Nevertheless, I phoned him and told him about his sister's demise. Dennis rushed from Kumasi and came to the hospital minutes later to confirm the tragic news.
They say men don't cry but there are few exceptions. Dennis cried like a little child who had lost his toy and no amount of consoling would calm him at all. I wanted to tell him who killed his sister but I realized that Dennis would go after Raymond and commit a crime, so I kept that to myself. I ended staying with him at the hospital until Olivia's mom arrived at the hospital in the evening. She reunited with her son and I gave them my condolences before I finally left the hospital.
When I got home that evening, I cried so much in my room, that my eyes were beginning to redden. I didn't feel like eating or doing anything at all. I just wanted Olivia back and that wasn't going to happen. Dad sent text messages asking me to come for dinner but I wasn't interested. When dad sent a house worker to implore me, I decided to go downstairs to see what he wanted.
When I got to the dining room, I was surprised to meet mom but she wasn't looking happy at all. I sat at the dining table and food was served before me. I wasn't interested in eating but I had to take some bites cause I was very hungry. As I took some few morsels, dad broke the silence.
"I hope you are doing well my dear..."
"No dad. I'm awful." I said with a straight face.
"Well, I hope you find peace and tranquility soon." dad nodded. "There's another issue I wanted to inform you of. It's about your sister—she has gone missing..."
"Missing ?" I echoed. "When ?"
"She went missing on campus today." mom finally spoke up. "She disappeared and we haven't heard from her since then. I'm seriously worried about her."
Dad faced me. "I think you and I know why..."
I sighed and shook my head as I bowed down. Mom was just looking at both of us cause she had no idea what we were talking about.
"Should I tell her ?" dad asked.
I shook my head. "Leave it to me, dad. I will tell her myself."
"Tell me what ?" mom questioned.
I took in a deep breath before slowly narrating everything that happened during the last couple of days. When I was done, I didn't receive the same treatment dad gave me when I told him what happened.
"How could you, Sonya ?" mom fired. "How could you do this to your younger sister ? Don't you have any shame ?"
I bowed my head and said nothing. That didn't stop my mom from ranting.
"Fred can you believe this young woman over here ?" mom focused on him. "She just sabotaged Delilah's relationship with that good man, Kelvin. How is this acceptable ? Why are you not scolding her ?"
"Honey, relax."
"I'm not going to relax." mom fired. "Our daughter is missing and it's all because of Sonya. Why did you ruin such a genuine relationship your sister had ? They fit perfectly and I was hoping they would get together. Now that I know they were together, you just had to ruin it. What can you say for yourself Sonya Adwoa Hanson ?"
I remained quiet and dad intervened. "Shouting at Sonya is not going to do anything. The main problem here is finding out where Delilah has gone to and that's what we should be focusing on."
None of us spoke, so dad went on. "There is also something I have to inform you about. Kelvin has resigned from work. He left the house this afternoon."
"What ?" I quipped after I raised my head up.
I don't know why I was surprised but I shouldn't have been surprised cause Kelvin wanted to be far away from me as possible. Plus, he doesn't need to be my bodyguard anymore since Raymond has finally been caught.
"We need to look for him first," I suggested. "If we find Kelvin first, there's a high chance he can help us find Delilah."
"You make a good point." dad commented.
Mom didn't say anything. She just stared at her food, quiet and occupied.
"Dad, do you know where Kelvin lives at ?" I asked curiously.
"I don't drive him, so ask the drivers. They might know where he is." dad answered.
I took out my phone and called a few drivers. I asked them of Kelvin's location but surprisingly, they didn't want to reveal it to me. Kelvin had ordered them to keep mute about it and they had enough respect for him to actually follow his orders. I couldn't be mad at them, they were doing Kelvin a favour. I hanged up and faced dad.
"Dad, they don't want to reveal his location to me." I reported. "We have to find another way."
"How dare them..." dad exclaimed.
"Dad it's okay." I calmed him down. "Don't worry about that. Let's find another way and see if we can find Kelvin. Do have anything that can lead me to him ?"
Dad mused on the question for some seconds before answering. "Last week, Delilah asked me to help her get Kelvin employed in one electronic companies here in Accra. Maybe, that's where you might meet Kelvin."
"Great. I'll go there first thing tomorrow." I replied. "Please text me the address of the company and I'll go look for Kelvin."
"You better find him." mom warned. "Find him and make sure you two bring my daughter to me before 48 hours."
"Okay mom. I'll do my best."
"You better!" she fumed.
Mom left the dining table and walked out of the room. I couldn't blame her at all. She was worried sick about Delilah and it was all my fault. I've already lost my best friend, I don't want to lose the bond between me and my mother. I left the dining room later on and went up to my room to sleep.
I woke up quickly the next morning and got myself ready to go to the electronic company dad was talking about. I got in the car and the driver drove us out of the house. I was very anxious and when we finally got to the company, my anxiousness skyrocketed. I walked out of the car and made my way into the company. Lucky enough, I met the manager at the entrance.
"Good morning. Aren't you Sonya Hanson ? Daughter of Fred Hanson ?" he asked.
"Yes I am." I answered.
"Glad to have you here miss Hanson. What brings you here ?" the manager quizzed.
"I'm looking for one of your employees. He goes by the name Kelvin Walter. I want to meet him urgently." I explained.
"Kelvin Walter ?" the manager mused. "Oh I know him. He started work this morning. Come along, let me direct you to him."
I sighed thankfully and walked with the manager into the company. We got to a section where the workers were doing their job and I found Kelvin among a group. The manager called Kelvin out and when he saw me, he had a huge frown on his face. Kelvin came forward and stood in front of me with his head bowed down.
"You call for me, Mr Agyiri." Kelvin said.
"Miss Sonya, the daughter of the multimillionaire wants to speak with you." Mr Agyiri told him. "I'm guessing you guys have unfinished business."
"Kelvin let's talk outside." I implored.
I led the way as Kelvin followed me behind. When we go to quiet place outside, Kelvin finally spoke me.
"What are you doing here and how did you find me ?" he poured out.
"Kelvin, please hear me out. It's understandable you are angry at me and I accept that. I've being a terrible friend....."
"Friend ? You were my friend ? Is that how 'a friend' would act towards their 'friends' ?"
"Just hear me out." I pleaded. "I've done wrong things 'a friend' shouldn't do and I'm sorry about it. Right now, I need you to help me find Delilah. She has been missing since yesterday and we are all worried. Help me find her and you can ignore me all your life if you want to. You can call me names and treat me like dirt. Just help me find my sister..."
Tears started flowing from my eyes and Kelvin turned his back against me.
"I know she's missing." he muttered. "My sister told me about it yesterday."
I sniffed as I wiped my tears. "Does that mean you will help me find her ?"
Kelvin turned back to face me and his face was unreadable. I just prayed he agreed to help me cause if he didn't.....
.
Kelvin
Sleeping that Wednesday evening wasn't easy. I couldn't stop thinking of what Delilah said and how she had gone missing. It was clear she was avoiding me and that's what hurt me the most. She didn't want to hear me out at all and it was all thanks to Sonya—the devil's incarnation. I agree that I said some words I didn't mean and I felt bad about it but I was still angry at her for causing this whole mess.
Hannah and I didn't tell our mom about the case. We feared that it might trigger back her paralysis. Even though she said it was permanently gone, we didn't want to take our chances.
The next day, I decided to work at the electronic company that Delilah had helped me land a job at. I wanted to get my mind off things and try to move on but right when I thought I had forgotten all about it, Sonya showed up. I was shocked to see her but that shock turned into anger. I wanted to run away from her but that would be disrespectful before my manager. After speaking to Sonya outside and hearing her cry out for help, it touched my soft spot.
"Stop crying." I sympathized. "I don't want you to cry for me. It's okay. I will help you."
"Really ?" she forced a smile.
"Yes." I affirmed. "And I'm sorry for what I said yesterday. I didn't really mean any of that."
"It's okay." Sonya wiped her face. "I deserve it."
"There's something that has crossed my mind." I approached Sonya. "What if Delilah is staying with her friend, Sena ?"
"Sena ?" Sonya looked wild. "I know her but I don't know much about her."
"Do you know where she lives ?"
Sonya shook her head. "No, I don't. But I can find out if I ask the authorities at the university."
"Really ? Is that possible ?" I asked.
"Give me a few minutes. Her location must surely be in their database." Sonya responded.
Sonya walked away and made a phone call. I went to the manager and asked for permission to leave with Sonya. He agreed and I went out to meet Sonya.
"She lives at Osu. Let's go." Sonya revealed.
We got in the car and we ordered the driver to take us to Osu. The drive was a long one and the car was quiet the whole time. I didn't bother to even look in Sonya's direction. I was just thinking about Delilah and I was hoping she was really at Sena's house.
We arrived at Sena's house minutes later and we got down from the car. Sena was living in an apartment, just like my own back at Achimota. We walked around searching from apartment to apartment, hoping we would find Sena. Once we got upstairs, we were losing hope until one door opened and Sena came into view. She was very startled to see us and that made me suspect her.
"Kelvin. Sonya." Sena exclaimed. "What are you two doing here ?"
Her voice was louder than a normal person and that meant she was signalling Delilah to hide.
"We are looking for Delilah and we know she's with you." I said.
"Delilah with me ? What makes you say that ? I only met her yesterday and I haven't heard from her since." Sena smiled widely.
"Are you sure ?" Sonya queried.
"Oh yeah. I'm positive about it."
"So do you mind if we look in your apartment to see if we can find Delilah ?" I asked her.
"No. Why would you do that ?" Sena protested.
"We want to be sure...." Sonya uttered.
"Well, believe me. Delilah is not—"
I carefully pushed Sena out of the way when she least expected that and I got into her apartment quickly. I searched her living room, moved to her kitchen, checked her bathroom and finally found Delilah. She had this huge frown on her face and she quickly got out of the bathroom when she saw me. I chased her and caught up with her in the living room. I held her hand and she tried to escape my grip.
"Kelvin leave me alone!" she commanded.
"Won't you give me a hearing ? You haven't allowed me to say anything about what you heard from Sonya. Please, just listen to me." I pleaded.
I let go of Delilah's hand and she stood there with folded arms. "Say what you want to say and get out of here."
"Fine. I'll do just that." I replied.
Sonya and Sena left the room to give us privacy and I started with my apology.
"I'm gravely sorry for what happened on Wednesday and I can partly blame myself for it. On Saturday, Sonya and I were drunk and we didn't have sex. No. We kissed and I was so guilty about it that I didn't want you to find out about it."
"Why didn't you tell me then ?" Delilah asked.
"Why did you decide to keep this a secret ?"
"I didn't want to get your feelings hurt." I explained.
"Well, you did anyways." Delilah frowned more.
"I'm sorry and I can say sorry a million times because I'm genuinely sorry about what happened. All what happened was an accident and it happened before we even became a couple. I would never choose your sister over you and I can swear on that. You are the best thing that has happened to me and I don't want to lose you...." I apologized.
Delilah's frown started loosening up and I knew that she knew I was right. So I went on.
"You know I'm right and I mean every word I say. I wouldn't change you for anyone. Not even in my next life. You are special to me and I want us to be together till eternity. What I did was unjustifiable and I take full fault. If leaving you alone would make you happy.....then so be it. You won't ever hear from me again. Goodbye Delilah." I said as a tear dropped my eye.
I turned to leave and Delilah held me back. She pulled me close to her and gave me a warm deep French kiss. We kissed for minutes, locking arms with each other and kissing like there was no tomorrow. It took a while before we finally separated.
"I understand you Kelvin." Delilah smiled with tears in her eyes. "I know you are telling me the truth and I'm sorry for overreacting. I shouldn't have doubted you. You are....."
"Let's forget all about it and move on. Okay ?"
"That's why I love you." Delilah smiled.
"I love you too."
We kissed again for a few moments before Sonya got into the living room to halt our hot and passionate moment.
"Sorry to break up the reunion," Sonya apologized. "But dad is dying right now....."
