Chapter 8 - misunderstandings

With a new day comes new opportuniti— oh to hell with this, WHERE HAS MY ASTRA FIGURE GONE?!

I've been looking everywhere today, it was right there on my counter, on the exact spot that gets that perfect patch of sunlight! But it's gone! I can't believe it, I've been robbed, I've been robbed blind! I'll never sleep again!

I looked under the covers of my bed, under my bed, on my counter, and under my counter, I also checked for fingerprint evidence but even that was clean–

I crouched to the floor, hoping to see it lying somewhere between the corners of my room but no luck, it was all just dust, old cartridges, and used mags and manga.

I leaned back against the wall, my head raised to the ceiling as my thoughts began to spiral, my fingers tapping against the wooden floorboards.

No way they just got up and walked away…right? I mean–... right? I-I doubt it- but it's the only logical solution!

I stood up straight, shaking my head violently to snap myself from my illogical thoughts of panic.

"Get it together…" I muttered, throwing myself back on my bed with my hands clasped to my face, deep in thought.

"Konnichiwa!" I heard Gabriel enter the room with a proud grin on his face, wearing the suit still, I swear he was attached to it.

"Gabriel–" I murmured, his mood immediately stiffened as I called him.

"Y-yeah?" He responded, watching as I pat the spot on the bed besides me, slowly looking up to him as he took a seat.

"You're a big Astra fan, correct?" There was a moment of silence between us, the foreign dinosaur boy giving a nod and a smile as though this wasn't an interrogation that may or may not cost him his life.

"Yup! She's my number one favorite!" I could practically see the stars surrounding this man–

"And you also know I'm also a big fan of hers– correct?" He nodded again, getting a bit too happy about this talk right now.

"Yup! I know!" he beamed.

I buried my face in my hands, my voice dropping to a whisper as I continued.

"And you know I have a figure of said streamer-"

There was a moment of silence between us, all of his excitement soon going for confusion and skepticism, "Where's this going?"

"I'm the one who asks the questions here!" I stand up, standing tall in an attempt to intimidate- despite the fact that he towers over me when we compare heights-"Did you steal my figure?"

He tilted his head to the side in confusion, the silence between us dragging on painfully for seconds on end.

"No? I haven't…"

"You sure?..."

"Positive–"

We just blankly stared at each other, the sound of the birds chirping outside attempting to hit the glass wall that is our awkward silence.

"Then where could it be-" I muttered to myself, turning around and pacing along my room, my eyes filled with concern and worry.

"So, did you and Okane make up?" He pondered, attempting to start a conversation, his words causing me to stop in my tracks before I looked at him.

"No– why?" I murmured, seeing him sigh in disappointment and pushing off my bed.

"Never mind, you got anything to eat? I'm starvin'." He rubbed his stomach with a rather weak expression.

"Oh uh– yeah, pretty sure there're chips in the cabinet." I pointed down the hall, watching as he made his way out of my room- wait… wait wait wait, it has to be her– I mean, who else could it be! She's been plotting my downfall since day one!

[Gabriel's pov]

"He's so caught up with that figure–" I sighed, walking down the hall with my hands behind my head in an idle thought, "He didn't even pick up that I was learning Japanese–"

I kept walking, bumping into Okane in the halls, she seemed frantic about something, i may have a feeling about what it could be–

"Hey, Gabriel- wait what's your last nam–" She asked but cut herself off a quick pause before we both said simultaneously, "Doesn't matter-"

"Anyway- have you seen my controller– I only brought one and I have a stream in a few hours." She asked, her posture was somewhat impatient, her finger tapping against the sleeve of her hoodie as she waited for a response.

I shrugged, "Nope haven't seen it, where'd you look?"

"I checked everywhere! I've checked my bed, under my bed, the counter, under my counter, I even checked for fingerprint evidence but that was clean–" She practically whined, counting on each finger as she listed all the things she'd done.

"That's– borderline obsessive," I commented.

"This is my job we're talking about!" She snapped, flailing her arms wildly like a lost child.

"Ok, ok, fair, fair, my bad, I'm an idiot-" my hands were raised defensively at her outburst taking a few steps back before something crossed my mind-

"Hey, by the way, have you and Haru made up, like at all?" I asked, a soft awkward chuckle at the end of my sentence only for my eyes to meet the most bewildered, the most offended, and the most annoyed facial expression ever–

"Ew, no why would you even think that?" She responded, her arms crossed to me.

I- well damn! I didn't know the beef ran this deep- I took a reluctant sigh and just walked past her, "Welp, good luck on finding it before your stream."

"Jeez– of course, this happens when I just get a few new followers-" I heard her mutter, fidgeting where she stood as if the idea would just come rushing to her.

Her head shot up, her lips slightly agape as a thought crossed her mind-

"Haru–"

[Haru's pov]

"I don't have your stupid controller alright?!" I snapped, both me and Okane having a stare off in the living room.

"It's clearly you! It's not something you're above doing at all!" She argued, glaring up at me.

"Hey! My pranks have actual standards to them! Unlike you who picks the most basic ones in the book!"

"Excuse you?!" she responded resting her hand on her chest, "I'll have you know–"

"I don't care about all that!" I cut her off, shoving my finger on her nose. "Besides, where did you take my figure? Are you that jealous of an actual successful streamer?!"

"My stream has been doing well for itself thank you very much! I'll have you know I don't need you and your pathetic excuse for a laptop you probably got for free from your college, To watch my streams!" She pushed my hand away and shoved me as far as she could.

"How dare you Meraline was there for me when I needed her most!"

"You named it?!"

"Yeah, I named it! And without HER, you wouldn't be having those new followers either! I brought attention to your page, damn it!" I shouted, Okane, taking a few moments to process what I just said, her confusion turning into anger once more.

"Oh, hey guys what's with all the–" Gabriel came downstairs to see us just standing there in silence. "Noise…"

"So it was you!!" She shouted leaping into my stomach and tackling me to the floor with a large thud.

"H-hey guys don't fight!"

Results for today's conflict, a tie?

"Wait so let me get this straight…" I murmured once everything had calmed down, both me and Okane standing in front of Gabriel who was kneeling on the floor. "You were the one who stole both my figurine and her controller- just to get us to make up?"

Gabriel took a nod of shame, causing both me and Okane to look at each other.

"Gabriel- stand up…" Okane sighed, her voice empathetic as she watched the poor boy rise to his feet, towering over her. "Kneel a bit-"

"H-huh… O-okay." He kneeled in front of her, finally face to face.

"Sooo what's this abou–" His sentence was interrupted by a firm slap to the face, the impact crisp enough to make even me flinch. I almost lept to the other side of the room on instinct.

"Don't even touch my stuff again!" She roared before storming out of the room and slamming it behind her, watching as Gabriel just kneeled there looking like a fool-

"I'll just…leave you to that–" I muttered, leaving my room as well, the sunlight shining on his still form. Once the door was shut his head hung in defeat.

Result for today's conflict, Gabriel loses.
