Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: A Quest

After some more conversation, we found ourselves back in the serene garden, surrounded by the beauty of countless flowers.

"When will you send me back?" I asked.

"You're not going back," she replied, her voice calm yet definitive.

I waited, sensing there was more. "Well, you can go back to your home if that's what you want, but you'll return to your previous lifestyle. Your mother won't let you out for quite some time, making it difficult for you to grow stronger," she added with a knowing look.

"What do you suggest, then?" I inquired, curious about her intentions.

"How about a little adventure? Think of it as a quest from me. If you can complete it, I'll give you a reward," she said, her lips curling into a mysterious smile.

"What kind of reward?" I asked, my interest piqued.

"You will awaken your innate ability when you complete the quest," she revealed.

I frowned. "I'll awaken it regardless of whether I take this quest or not."

"Yes, but if you awaken naturally, you'll get the best ability I have," she replied, still smiling.

"Just tell me, what's the catch?" I asked, growing impatient.

"If you complete the quest, I'll give you an additional ability to help you learn your concept," she explained.

I couldn't refuse such an offer. Having two innate abilities would undoubtedly make me stronger, but I knew the quest had to be challenging.

"But my family will be worried about me," I said, not wanting to cause any distress to my mother.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of that. I'll send her a divine revelation that you're on a mission given by the goddess herself to vanquish evil," she said with such a natural tone that I couldn't help but suspect she was used to deceiving innocent believers.

I remembered how religious my family was, especially my mother, who always had a pious look on her face when she prayed.

"Hey, I do it for their own good, you know," she said with an innocent look, clearly aware she had been reading my mind again.

"It's not good manners to peek at someone's thoughts," I replied, a bit annoyed.

"I'm not intentionally trying to read your mind, you know. It's like you're speaking your thoughts aloud," she said. Whether it was an excuse or the truth, I had no idea.

"So, what's the mission?" I asked, eager to get to the point.

The scenery around me shifted, and I found myself hovering over a battlefield. Two countries were locked in a brutal war. I recognized one crest as the Royal crest of Buranda and the other as that of Angria. These two nations were far to the north of our kingdom, confirming that I was still on my own planet.

"Your mission is to stop this war," she said.

Stopping two countries hell-bent on killing each other is a daunting task, especially for someone like me who has morals and dislikes using underhanded tactics. There had to be an easier way for someone as weak as me to intervene.

"Well, how you do it is up to you. I just want you to stop the war. You can choose any method you want," she said, watching me closely. "And I won't give you any hints—you have to figure everything out on your own."
