Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 : On the field

"What the-"

He tries to speak but his voice doesn't come out, only his thoughts make noise, he doesn't understand the situation.

He moves forward in this white immensity, trying to look around him, but nothing happens.

"His words dissipate into space.

Suddenly the white of this space begins to distort, a column of water emerges from it, circling and moving like a snake all around Arthur.

"Wow!"

The column comes to rest in front of Arthur's face, a voice emerges.

"Arthur hears the words without understanding them, but something seems to translate them.

"What's my dream? I want to become a legend."

"ednegel"

"Yeah! A legend, you heard me right!"

" my "

" My name? Arthur, nice to meet you, Aquillon water spirit."

The spirit began to move around Arthur again, seeming to make a "Hmmm" sound.

The water never stopped moving, but suddenly it parted slightly to let out a luminescent ball, which entered Arthur's body.

He was seized by a continuous flow of information.

"So this is magic!!!"

Transition

He emerges from the mirror, Suke waiting for him.

-How did it go? Were you able to obtain magic?

Arthur gives a satisfied smile.

-OF COURSE! LOOK!

He holds out his hand

-NOT HERE!!!

-ORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH !!!! SUPREME WATER JET!

A small jet of water emerges from one of his fingers, Suke holds back his laughter.

Transition

Arthur ends up watering the flowers in the barracks with his magic, and finally realizes that magic isn't as cool as he thought.

Transition

Suke has been thinking for days.

"Arthur's not getting any better, and his magic isn't going to help him get any stronger. What's he missing?"

He watches Arthur train with other chicks.

The other instructor arrives, intimidated as usual by Suke.

-Instructor Suke, I have a question.

He's not really listening to him, so he asks softly anyway, so as not to rush him.

-Uh... So... well uh... Have you decided who's going to take part in the wolf hunt?

Suke suddenly turns and grabs him by the shoulders.

-YES, THAT'S IT! REAL EXPERIENCE! WELL DONE IMZA!!!

-AH UH YES I YES! THANK YOU!

Transition

All the soldiers assembled, Suke speaks up.

-Listen to me carefully, there's going to be a wolf hunt soon, these little creatures are infesting the forests near the capital and villages, preventing the harvesting of certain plants and mushrooms for potions. So I'm going to choose some of you to go and reduce their numbers, but don't worry, instructors will accompany you.

The soldiers talk among themselves, some motivated, others not at all.

-I've already decided who's going.

Transition

Arthur finds himself in the middle of a troop of around twenty soldiers, all wearing fine armor and capes.

There are 3 instructors, Suke, the one he fought against in the recruitment phase, and 1 other he doesn't know, and among the soldiers is Günther, who comes to talk to Arthur.

-Is that the legend again? You should have gone back to your muddy countryside haha!

-Oh Günther, are you all right?

-Tsss- It's no fun if you don't react. Try not to die, he leaves at once.

One of the instructors speaks up.

-Listen carefully, never fight alone against the wolves, they're bound to be in a group too, and I say that especially for the chicks.

Of the twenty or so soldiers, he has ¼ chick and the rest are orcs.

-These aren't just any wolves, they're linked to the spirit of metal, so beware AND above all aim for their weak point, which is below the throat and in the ribs.

-YES!

-We'll step in if the fight gets really complicated. Think of it as training for real combat.

-YES!

-Now make groups of 4, with a chick in each, the orcs try to leave them a few wolves.

They laugh and scatter

Suke thinks "Come on, Arthur, show me what you're really worth in mortal danger", Arthur finds himself in Günther's group.

The groups split up to go into several different forests, with Arthur's group managing the largest.

-Hey Arthur, how'd you like to go scouting? That's a job for a legend.

-I see you're starting to get the spirit HAHAHA!

-Yeah yeah, don't hang around too long.

-I'M GOING! ORAAAAAAH!!!

Arthur rushes into the forest

-Günther, are you sure you know what you're doing?

-What's up? He said yes. He could have said no.

-You're so cruel to him hahaha!

-Cruel? He wants to become a legend, you have to push him hahaha!

-Hmm... I think I'll join him.

-Do as you like.

Günther and another soldier build a campfire and sit around it.

Arthur runs into the forest in search of wolves.

-COME AND FIGHT!!!

The Orc soldier quickly joins him.

-Arthur! Wait! Wait! Wait!

-Oh, you came too?

-Günther's just trying to hurt you!

Arthur smiles.

-I know he is.

-But why are you going then?

-If nobody takes me seriously, it's because I haven't proved myself yet.

-But no one will ever take you seriously! Becoming a legend doesn't make sense.

-If you say so.

Arthur continues to smile as he runs through the forest.

As the day goes by, they've really gone deep.

-Not a wolf... Let's take a break.

-You're right.

Both are out of breath and drinking from their canteens, looking through the trees they can see one of the roads leading to the capital.

-I think we've gone a bit too far.

Günther had just slaughtered a dozen wolves with his comrade.

-Hmpf, are all the wolves here or what? Where are the other two?

-Maybe we shouldn't have let them go.

-All the losers have to do is keep to themselves.

But after saying that, he heads off in the direction they came.

-But if they die it'll be on me, tsss.

"Is she a tsundere or what?" says the other.

Transition

-Arthur, shouldn't we go back with the others?

-Yep, but I need to run a little errand first...

-Haha understood, I'm going ahead.

Arthur starts pissing against a tree, interrupted by a shout.

"What's that??"

He quickly pulls up his pants and exits the forest, it's a cart being attacked by wolves, there seem to be people in it, and two guards confronting the wolves.

Arthur repeats the instructors' advice to himself, hesitating to go and help them because he's not sure he can, before finally saying to himself.

"A true legend never abandons anyone."
