They are on the way to the place that the other had suggested for having delicious sweets. The man also had introduced him to some other places as they went on their way and even to some popular stalls and stall owners with their popular products, giving him free tastes of those.
The man didn't allow him to pay so it was the same as free tastes. As for the items he had shown to him, even if he only showed a little bit of interest in the item, as long as there's that, the guy would buy it for him.
Calleous could think of them as souvenirs for this tour but shouldn't it be him who has to pay for them? But look! This man, whom he still didn't know the name of, was paying for everything, like how a guy would pay for his date!
