Chapter 3 - Dungeons first casualty

Alfred Winson surveyed the three new gremlins and checked their skills. They mainly had the same skills as the first one but two of them had an extra skill such as throwing and slash.

The gremlins wielded different weapons with one of them even discarding its weapon for a fire poker. As soon as the fifth gremlin spawned in Alfred came to the decision that it was time for action.

"You five come here." Alfred proceeded to give the gremlins his instructions.

...

Rob Venesse was on the ground floor of the luxurious cabin. The cabin was far from any cabin within those woods and wasn't connected to the electrical grid.

Rob Venesse himself was a well off man who went from being the owner of a small store to a wealthy man ever since a mysterious organisation reached out to him.

They had claimed that Rob was one of the chosen few who could use magic and that he would be well rewarded for his entry and service into the organisation.

Rob was skittish and skeptical at first however he accepted and the organisation was true to its word.Rob had been granted wealth as well as power. He was truly glad.

He suspected that the organisation had deep ties within the government and possibly influence around the wide globe. However it was as the saying goes curiousity killed the cat.

Rob was content with how things were.He had taken part in several rituals and learned spells and incantations. He had recently competed in an auction for a certain red crystal that boosted the ambient mana within its surrounding environment.

This was a rare effect and could boost the magical capabilities of anyone within its vicinity. The ritual for its creation was quite new and all you had to do was sacrifice a human with a particularly powerful soul.

The organisation was already preparing to do this ritual multiple more times.Rob couldn't help but lick his lips at the thought of gaining more of those crystals. The first one had already boosted his magical capabilities by quite a bit.

CLANG

The sound of a metal door busting open caused Rob to leap out of his seat.

"What was that?" Rob knew he was the only human around for hundreds of metres. The only metal door was the basement one and no one was supposed to be down there.

Some magical words were uttered in Robs mind.He had cast the wind surveillance spell but he felt something rapidly approaching his back.

Before Rob could cast defensive magic or reinforce his body he found himself with a fire poker in his back.He looked around and saw that there were three strange monsters looking at him with uncontained malice.

Rob didn't hesitate to use the thunderbolt spell to immediately fry two of them.A powerful stench of fried flesh and blood immediately permeated the air.

The other one immediately turned tail to run away but Rob raised his arm to strike it with the same spell. That was until Rob found himself impaled with two knives embedded in his waist and thigh.

Rob gasped as he wasn't used to such pain and wasn't an experienced fighter. He had never needed to fight in his life but now he was filled with the resolve to live.

Rob grabbed the two kitchen knives embedded in his body and attempted to pull them out but the gremlins wouldn't let him be.

The two gremlins to his side rushed towards him while the one that had been running away turned around and threw its spear at Rob.Faced with this threat to his life Rob cast a spell that was known as erupting force.

Just as Rob pulled the knives out of his body a massive amount of force burst outward from his body sending every gremlin and piece of furniture flying in multiple directions.

The two gremlins closest to Rob had their bodies turn to mulch due to the extreme amount of force whilst the further one was pushed back slightly.

Rob was in a sorry state, his body bled profusely in three different areas and his mana was running low.He had just enough mana to either cast a healing spell or one offensive spell.

Rob muttered a spell under his breath and fried the last gremlin who approached out of desperation. The gremlin's dying wail left Rob satisfied as he slumped against the wall completely exhausted.

All Rob had to do now was wait for his mana to recover in order to heal himself.

"Hold on what about that crystal?" Rob began crawling towards the basement with what little mana he had left. His mind was fuzzy and his sight was blurry. He left a bloody trail behind him as he went down the stairs.

Now in the basement he felt his mana recovering faster but all his hopes shattered when he saw another gremlin with a spear appear out of thin air.

The Gremlin wasted no time in slowly stabbing Rob to death.Rob was confused as to why he was going to die a slow death. What had he ever done to deserve this?

Ten minutes later Rob Venesse breathed his last wondering where the hell those gremlins had appeared from.
