Chapter 10 - The truth

Dilly stiffened as she heard a loud bang on the front door . Her mom does not knock that way , who could it be?

After her journey to the world beyond with Ryan , she had locked herself in her room and switched her phone off.

She was having a very hard time processing the whole thing. She wanted to wake up from the long ass dream but she feared that it was not a dream.

She got up reluctantly, yawning uncontrollably as she walked out of her room to the front door.

She peeped in the keyhole but there was no one there .

The knock came again as she was about to turn back to her room . Her heart missed a beat but she opened the door regardless.

No one would hurt her in broad day light and besides Ryan is just a block away. He would help her if anyone tries to harm her.

She smiled because he had gained her trust in a short period of time.

"Surpriseeeee!" Ayana laughed happily as she squeezed Dilly in a tight hug.

"Why are you blushing girlfriend?" She asked Dilly.

Too stunned to talk Dilly just stared at her best friends.

Mat nodded curtly pretending not to care , he dropped a big box of cake on the table gesturing towards it like Dilly didn't see it in the first place .

She ignored the cake and wrapped her hands around his waist "hey I'm sorry. Are you still mad at me?"

He struggled to free himself from her loose grip "it's fine."

Ayana gave him a stern look "I thought we agreed that you were going to behave yourself when we get here."

He laughed avoiding both ladies gaze "I'm not mad at her or anything , it just hurts that she abandoned us when we should have been here for her."

Ayana sighed obviously irritated "stop sulking urgghh"

"You guys please don't fight , I'm very sorry" Dilly said gently.

"Oh my babe , look at you!" Ayana said pulling Dilly's hair playfully.

"Our graduation is in a week right ?" Dilly asked , she was really clueless because she had not even been thinking of any thing other than the mystery unfolding in her life.

Mat nodded "That's why we came here before you bail out".

Ayana shot him daggers shaking her head angrily.

Dilly laughed at their little cat and mouse fight . She has really missed having them around and she felt grateful that they decided to show up unannounced. She felt instantly better having her best friends around. It was like a breath of fresh air.

She smiled because it suddenly felt like she was back to being her real self and every other thing had been her imagination.

Just as she was beginning to enjoy the break from the mysterious world that had kept her out of her mind , the door bell rang.

She was about to tell them to ignore but Mat was already at the door peeping into the keyhole.

He rolled his eyes , hesitated for a while before opening the door.

Ryan walked in and he could clearly see the annoyance on Mat's face.

"Ryan I'm busy with my friends , can we talk later" She said quickly before he could open his mouth to say anything.

Ryan stood fixed to a spot , he shook his head "it's important, we need to talk now please".

Mat scoffed "didn't she just say she would see you later?"

Ryan looked at Dilly pleadingly totally ignoring Mat "I won't take much of your time , please?"

Dilly looked at her best friends and sighed in defeat "I'm sorry guys , I'll be back soon"

She turned to face Ryan "few minutes and that's all"

"Thank you" Ryan said leading her out of the house.

Mat let out a sarcastic laugh "just wow"

"That guy is clearly into Dilly, the way he looks at her" Ayana giggled pretending like she didn't hear Mat's remark.

"Into her? I don't think that's the case , there's more" Mat scoffed . His hatred for Ryan growing rapidly .

"You think they might be robbing banks togther?" Ayana laughed.

"Shut up!" Mat muttered "you're so annoying."

Dilly stared straight into Ryan's eyes, she was obviously running out of patience but at the same time she wanted to know what he was going to talk about.

"I think you should ask your mom who your real birth parents are" he said .

He knew that he sounded ridiculous but there was no other way to say it.

Dilly laughed "Ryan this is really getting out of hand I must say..."

"Dilly listen…" he cut her off.

"This is more serious than you think, we need your help back home to claim the throne . The throne is yours only then can we finally overcome evil"

She chose not to say anything but he continued regardless.

"You're the only descendant of the late great king of the world beyond. Now the pure magic realm needs you to restore peace and unity in the world beyond."

"Are you done?" She asked quietly.

"I know you can feel it Dilly, I know you can feel it" He sighed.

At that point she didn't know what she felt towards him, whether it was pity or annoyance. Mixed feelings would describe it better. He seemed stressed out and it broke her heart to know that she might be the reason for that. But in all honesty she was not interested in any of these things he was saying, she might believe him but she does not want to get involved.

"Please think about it…. The earlier we get back the better for everyone."

"What exactly am I to you and your pure magic realm folks? An instrument for war? You want me to leave my comfort on earth and involve myself in something this big? You want me to stop being human?" She was trying so hard not to raise her voice.

"You don't necessarily have to stop being human, you can always find a balance . Even though your father was an immortal , your real mother was human….."

"I have only one mother and one father Ryan and I know who they are" She said cutting him off.

"Just ask your mom who…" He stopped to look at her . He really wished he could make her understand better but there was nothing he could do . She has to be willing.

"Excuse me please , my friends are waiting" she broke the silence and walked away.

Ryan let out a long defeated sigh. Now that convincing her was not working , he would opt out for plan B. His very own plan.
