Blanche knew that Jason liked Felix and smiled, "Uncle has his own things to do and a family. We'll see each other often in the future."
Jason touched his nose and replied with an "Oh."
"Uncle, you have to keep in touch with me! I don't have many friends, and it's great to have a good friend like you." Jason was just a child, while Felix was an adult, so their friendship seemed odd, yet seeing how well they got along, it didn't seem so strange after all.
Felix really liked Jason. This little guy was innocent and adorable, just like Blanche, and he didn't know who his father was.
Thinking of this, Felix couldn't help but scrutinize Blanche. After spending a few days together, Felix discovered that Blanche had a keen eye and was quite accomplished in design. Whether it was her understanding of brands or unique insights into various developments, he couldn't help but admire her.
"I wonder which school you graduated from, Sherry?" Felix asked.
To prevent Felix from discovering her true identity, Blanche refrained from sharing much about herself. When asked about school, she only mentioned that she graduated from an unknown university.
Seeing that Blanche was concealing something from him, Felix grew increasingly curious about her identity. He even sent someone to investigate her, but the result was a blank slate. She had boarded the ship secretly, and there was no information about her. No one on the ship knew her, and even her name was fake, making it difficult to trace her.
"Jason, tell Uncle where you like to play the most," Felix decided to approach Jason.
However, Jason was not an ordinary child. He inherited Allen's clever brain and extraordinary intelligence, quickly realizing that Felix wanted to know more about them.
"Uncle, I love to travel abroad. I used to fly overseas all the time."
This… Felix was taken aback. This little guy was being deliberate, wasn't he?
Blanche couldn't help but smile at Jason's cleverness. She wondered who he took after…
"Alright, Jason needs to rest now." Blanche picked up Jason and prepared to leave.
Felix could sense Blanche's subtle detachment. She had kept her distance from him from the very beginning, even though they had become friends.
Felix wanted to get closer to Blanche. There was something uniquely captivating about her that always drew his attention, and he wanted to protect this mother and son duo. He had never cared so much for a woman or liked a child this much.
"I don't know where you'll go after disembarking. Why don't you leave me an address and phone number? We're friends now; we can get together in the future," Felix said.
Blanche had already taken two steps away, creating some distance between them. "I'm not sure yet. I'll let you know when I figure it out."
Blanche didn't like Felix's probing and scrutiny; it made her uncomfortable. She needed enough security, and only by leaving these troubles behind could she feel safe.
But could someone as special as her really leave these troubles behind?
She didn't want to admit to herself… Felix felt a tightness in his chest as he watched Blanche's back, feeling quite unhappy. This feeling of wanting to grasp something yet being unable to made him a bit anxious. What kind of past did she have? What was she hiding from? He really wanted to know.
Blanche was very unsettled by Allen's "sudden appearance." She didn't know if she could live safely in Miami. If Allen appeared again or took Jason away… then…
After thinking it over, Blanche decided to ask her family. After all, they were family, and they would surely protect her.
Blanche dialed the phone, and her mother, Jane, had never been so eager to hear her voice. Excitedly, she said, "My daughter, where have you been? I couldn't reach you!"
Hearing the long-awaited concern made Blanche feel a bit touched. "I'm fine. I just went out to clear my mind…"
"Where did you go to clear your mind? Tell Mom quickly," her mother urged.
Once she told her, they could immediately inform Allen.
Blanche replied vaguely, "I'm just out and about, I'll be back in a while. Has anything happened at home?"
This roundabout questioning caused Jane and her husband to exchange glances.
"Nothing much, just really missing you. Your brother misses you too. Come on, William, talk to your sister for a bit."
Jane gave William a knowing look, signaling him to stall for time so they could notify Allen.
Reluctantly, William took the phone. It was well-known that siblings often argued, and he and Blanche were no exception, so he answered in a somewhat indifferent tone, "Hey, when are you coming back?"
Hearing her brother's voice made Blanche smile. "What's the matter? Missing your sister?"
"Like I would miss you."
Although Blanche and William were siblings, they rarely communicated, possibly due to the family's preference for sons over daughters. Nevertheless, Blanche thought well of her brother. After all, William was straightforward and always spoke his mind, making it easier to get information from him than from their parents.
"How's everything at home lately?" Blanche asked.
"What do you think? It's a mess," William replied. "When are you coming back? We're running low on money."
Running low on money? Did that mean Allen had gone to the Davis household?
"Impossible. Allen gave you all that money; how could it possibly run out?" Blanche feigned ignorance, wanting to probe William's words.
"What do you mean Allen gave us money? He hasn't given us anything," William complained. "He came by a few days ago and threatened us. If we didn't tell him where you were, he wouldn't be polite. Sis, you need to come back quickly. Our family can't handle Allen; don't drag us all down because of you."
Allen had a strong presence that made many people reluctant to look him in the eye. Even when he spoke calmly, he exuded an imposing aura, so William felt that Allen had "threatened" them.
Blanche's heart raced as she listened. As expected, Allen had taken action. It seemed he not only intended to go after Jason but also her family…
"Sis, when are you coming back? I don't think Master Allen Felix intends to resolve this. You might as well come back and apologize to him. He'll surely forgive you and let you continue being the young mistress of the Smith family."
However, for Blanche and Allen, it wasn't as simple as just apologizing.
Blanche planned to hang up the phone but reminded William before doing so, "You must not tell him about my call. Once I settle down, I'll come back to see you all."
"It's too late for that," a bland voice scoffed.
Jane had notified Allen, and he immediately had the call redirected. He happened to hear Blanche say not to tell him.
Upon hearing Allen's voice, Blanche's hand trembled as she held the phone, but she forced herself to say, "You… are you monitoring my family?"
"If I'm not monitoring your family, how would I know where you are?" Allen's voice carried a hint of amusement, sending a chill down Blanche's spine.
"What… do you want?" Her fear of Allen only grew stronger.
"I don't want anything. Just come back, and we can discuss everything properly."
Hearing his indifferent tone made Blanche's heart sink. She could almost guess the cruel and cold smile on Allen's face on the other end of the line.
Discuss properly? Allen had already sent people to hunt her down; how could she go back?
"I won't go back," Blanche said firmly. "Since I've left, I won't return. Allen, for the sake of our marriage, please let me go."
Her tone carried a pleading note, but to Allen's ears, it only made him uncomfortable. What did she mean by letting her go? He could never let her go, no matter what their relationship was…
"Fine, if you want me to let you go, that's possible," Allen said. "You just have to give me the child. Jason is my son and is destined to inherit everything from the Smith family."
Mentioning Jason ignited Blanche's suppressed anger again. Did Allen intend to use Jason to threaten her? How long would he keep playing these games?!
"I won't give you the child!" Blanche shouted. "If you think we still have a chance, you're sorely mistaken. I'm living well here, and I've made new friends. From now on, I have nothing to do with you. Don't think you can use my family to threaten me; I won't fall for that!"
Allen listened to Blanche's agitated tone on the other end of the line, his hand tightening around the phone until his knuckles turned white.
Living well? New friends? Allen curled his lips into a smirk. He really wanted to know what kind of life she was living that made her unwilling to come back.
"Since you've said that, I won't force you," Allen's voice carried a hint of pressure. "Blanche, if you think you can escape from my grasp, feel free to try. Jason is your son, but he's also mine. As long as Jason is in the picture, we will never be able to untangle ourselves!"
