Although he could sense no hostility or lies from her, deep down he understood she was telling the truth. There was this apparent innocence about her he couldn't ignore. He had waited so long for her and was finally about to make peace with the fact that he wasn't going to find her and settle with Ara.
But the goddess had other plans and she hurtled like a storm into his life, wrecking whatever peace he had gathered, devastating his heart in the process.
Even if he was able to forgive her and learnt later that her story was based on truth, it wouldn't erase her involvement in the murder of Ara.
