Chereads / Falling from Grace: The Swords Shadow / Chapter 10 - (Ch 4) Turning Point 1

Chapter 10 - (Ch 4) Turning Point 1

I found myself sprawled on the cold marble floor, having stumbled backward in shock at the figure's sudden appearance. My mother stood rigid, her hands gripping the edge of the table as she leaned forward, her eyes fixed on the robed entity before us. Near the entrance, I caught a glimpse of Alyssa, her body trembling visibly as she pressed herself against the wall, her eyes wide with a mixture of awe and terror. The air in the Shadow Conservatory seemed to thicken, the very shadows pulsing with an otherworldly energy as we all stared at the imposing figure that had materialized between me and the Heart of Shadows.

The robed figure turned its shadowed face towards me, its presence seeming to fill the entire room. When it spoke, its voice resonated with ancient power, echoing through the conservatory:

"Hello, Prodigy One. Your arrival has long been anticipated."

The words hung in the air, laden with unspoken meaning. I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized this entity had been waiting for me. But for how long? And why?

I pushed myself up from the floor, my eyes fixed on the robed figure. My heart raced, but I fought to keep my voice steady.

"You've been... anticipating me?" I asked, my mind reeling. "What do you mean by 'Prodigy One'? And how do you know who I am?"

I took a cautious step forward, torn between curiosity and apprehension. The weight of my future knowledge pressed heavily on my mind as I considered how to navigate this unexpected encounter.

As I studied the figure more closely, a familiar sensation washed over me. "You... you have the same aura as Byuke," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Then, with more force, I demanded, "What are you? Who are you?"

My questions hung in the air, charged with the tension of unspoken truths and hidden knowledge. I braced myself for the response, knowing that whatever answer came could change everything.

"I am Zephyros Harbinger, the God of the Harbinger race." Its voice resonated with ancient power as it continued, "We share origins with the being you know as Byuke Kassian he is one of the ten abyssals, he is part of the Covenant Race."

He then paused to turn his gaze around and then continued.

"We were once the Ten Gods when the three realms were once combined together a great time ago. Each of the ten Aetherian races had one god and the rest of the races were called Angels. Each race had one of their own abyssals that directly reported to their respective god. He said his voice hoarse and deep, he paused again. I waited a minute, then two, then he continued.

"We were once the great race out of all of the Aetherian Races. But once the three realms split and separated we were overthrown and banished by the nine other gods and their respective Aetherial races. After we were overthrown and were banished they had set up a trap and my kind were slaughter by the thousands. We barely managed to make it out of the Aether realm and ended up returning to the mortal realm and sealing the Mortal realm away from the Aetherian realm." He stopped to look at me I saw a sort of sadness in his black eyes, there was no light in them. He then continued "But the sealing is beginning to weaken as time moves on. Our powers are not as great as they once were in this realm."

"Once we came through a portal we encountered the four mortal races, you know them as Elves, Dwarves, Beastmen, and Humans."

"They were kneeling before us after feeling our powerful presence they must've felt fear or terror. Once they realized we meant them no harm they showed us hospitality. We gave them knowledge and guidance, and how to manipulate elements which they then taught their own people in return. We then located ourselves in the land called Havenstone. We used our Aetherian powers to put ourselves in a special dimension away from prying eyes." He said

His message sank deep into my ears, its true meaning obscured by layers of metaphor and hidden implications.

"Wait I have questions. What do you mean by realms? Why are there three?" I said

Zephyros turned its hooded gaze towards the obsidian rose, extending a shadowy hand towards it. The Heart of Shadows pulsed with an otherworldly energy, responding to His presence.

Zephyros gaze never leaving the heart of shadows, his words becoming more cryptic. "Unfortunately I cannot share those details yet you will soon learn of it through time and the trials we have set."

He then continued "Some seek to unravel the tapestry of existence, to reweave reality from its very beginnings. Your power, Prodigy One, is a thread that could mend or tear the fabric of the universe."

"The Heart of Shadows is more than a mere family heirloom, Prodigy One," Zephyros intoned. "It is a key, forged in the crucible of creation, that can unlock the vast potential slumbering within you."

The air around the artifact shimmered, revealing intricate patterns of energy connecting it to Alister. "This conduit of power is essential to prevent The Unraveling. It holds within it the echoes of the universe's birth and the whispers of its potential end."

Zephyros lowered his hand, the energies subsiding. "But beware, young Alister. To gaze into its depths now would be to invite destruction. Your mind and spirit are not yet tempered to withstand its full might."

His voice grew solemn. "Before you can harness the true power of the Heart of Shadows and fulfill your role as the Prodigy One, you must face trials that will forge your resolve and hone your abilities. Seek the hidden truths, master the shadows that dance at the edge of reality, and learn to navigate the treacherous currents of fate."

Then he began to fade, its form becoming translucent. "Your journey begins now, Alister Lihen Blackmier. The path ahead is fraught with danger, but it is one you must walk if you hope to prevent The Unraveling and preserve the tapestry of existence."

"I hope we meet again in the future, Prodigy One," Zephyros said, its voice fading along with its form. "The fate of all realms may depend on it."

Isolde Blackmier

I stood frozen, my hands gripping the table's edge as I tried to process what I had just witnessed. The Celestial words echoed in my mind, each one carrying weight I couldn't fully comprehend. My gaze flickered between the spot where The Celestial "Zephyros" had stood and my son, Alister.

How could this be? My youngest, the one we had always seen as different, now revealed to be some sort of prophesied figure? Part of me swelled with pride at the thought, while another part recoiled in fear at the implications. The fate of realms? The Unraveling? It was too much to take in.

I studied Alister's face, searching for signs of the boy I thought I knew. But the person before me seemed changed, older somehow. Had he always carried this burden, or was this transformation as sudden as it appeared?

Taking a deep breath to steady myself, I slowly approached Alister. My voice, when I found it, was barely above a whisper.

I approached Alister, my hands trembling slightly. My heart raced, a mixture of fear and maternal concern overwhelming me.

"Alister," I said, my voice cracking with emotion, "what was that about? How do you know of Angels and Celestials?"

I reached out to touch his face, searching his eyes for any trace of the child I thought I knew. Worry etched deep lines on my forehead as I continued, "My son, what burden have you been carrying? Why didn't you come to me?"

Tears threatened to spill from my eyes as the full weight of the situation bore down on me. The prophecy, the potential dangers, the enormous responsibility thrust upon my youngest child - it was almost too much to bear.

"Please," I whispered, my voice thick with worry and a desperate need to understand, "tell me everything. Let me help you, Alister. Whatever this is, whatever you're facing, you don't have to do it alone."

Alister Blackmier

My mind raced, conflicting thoughts and emotions battling for dominance. The weight of my future knowledge pressed heavily upon me, urging caution. Yet my mother's tearful plea tugged at my heart, tempting me to reveal everything.

I considered the potential consequences of full disclosure. How would it affect the timeline? Could it put my mother in danger? But keeping her in the dark seemed equally risky.

Memories of my past life - or was it my future? - flashed through my mind. The war, the losses, the hard-earned wisdom. How could I convey the gravity of what I'd experienced without sounding mad?

As I looked into my mother's worried eyes, I made a decision. I would reveal some truths, but not all. Enough to ease her immediate concerns, but not so much as to drastically alter the course of events.

Taking a deep breath, I prepared to speak, carefully choosing my words to navigate this delicate situation.

"Mother, I..." I began, my voice surprisingly steady. "I've been having visions. Glimpses of a possible future. At first, I thought they were just dreams, but they felt too real, too vivid."

I paused, watching her reaction carefully before continuing.

"These visions showed me terrible things - war, destruction, the fall of our peace with the other races. But they also revealed our family's importance and the weight of our legacy. I saw myself wielding powers I barely understand, facing challenges that seemed impossible."

My eyes met hers, and I allowed some of my vulnerability to show through my determined facade.

"I didn't tell you because I wasn't sure what it all meant. I still don't fully understand. But after what just happened with Zephyros, I can't deny it anymore. Something is coming, Mother, something big. And somehow, I'm at the center of it all."

I reached out, taking her hand in mine. The warmth of her touch was comforting, a reminder of the love and support I'd always known.

"I promise I'll tell you more as I understand it better. But for now, I need your trust. Can you give me that?"

I watched my mother's face carefully as she processed my words. Her expression shifted from worry to disbelief, then to a mix of fear and determination. She squeezed my hand tightly, her eyes never leaving mine.

"Alister," she began, her voice barely above a whisper, "this is... overwhelming. Visions of the future? A grand destiny? It's almost too much to comprehend."

She paused, taking a deep breath. I could see her mind working, weighing her options, considering the implications of what I'd told her.

"But I've always known you were special, my son. Different in ways I couldn't quite understand. And after what we've just witnessed with the Celestial, I can't deny the truth of your words."

Mother straightened her posture, a fierce protectiveness entering her eyes. "You have my trust, Alister. Whatever lies ahead, whatever challenges you must face, know that I will stand by you. We will face this together, as a family."

Her words filled me with a mixture of relief and renewed determination. I knew the path ahead would be difficult, but having my mother's support made it seem a little less daunting.

Relief washed over me at my mother's words of support, but it was quickly replaced by a renewed sense of urgency. The weight of the prophecy and the Celestial warnings pressed heavily on my mind.

"Thank you, Mother," I said, squeezing her hand. "We need to be careful about who we tell. This information could be dangerous in the wrong hands."

I paused, considering my next words carefully. "I think... I think we should keep this between us for now. Even Father shouldn't know yet. There's still so much I don't understand, and I need time to process everything before we involve anyone else."

Mother's eyes widened slightly, but she nodded in agreement. "You're right, Alister. This is... delicate. We'll keep it to ourselves for now."

I glanced at the Heart of Shadows, its obsidian petals seeming to pulse with an otherworldly energy. "We should consider what Zephyros said about the trials I need to face. Perhaps we can discreetly look into the family archives for more information?"

Mother's expression was a mix of determination and concern. "Yes, we'll need to be very careful. I'll help you research, but we must ensure no one suspects anything unusual."

The air in the conservatory felt charged as if the very shadows were alive with possibility and danger. I knew that from that moment on, everything would be different.

As I left the Shadow Conservatory, I noticed Alyssa following behind me. Her presence reminded me of the need for discretion.

Just before we reached my room, Alyssa spoke up softly, "Master Alister, would you like me to accompany you to your room, or should I retire for the day?"

I paused, considering her question. Part of me wanted solitude to process everything that had happened, but I also knew maintaining normalcy was crucial.

"Thank you, Alyssa," I replied, trying to keep my voice casual. "I think I'll be fine on my own. You can retire for the day if you'd like."

I watched her carefully, as she tried to hide her trembling. I felt a tinge of regret after saying that knowing that she may be too scared to be alone or can't process what she saw.

Alyssa's expression softened a hint of sadness in her eyes. "Of course, Master Alister," she replied in a gentle, melancholic tone. "I'll retire for the day then. Please don't hesitate to call if you need anything."

With a small curtsy, she turned and walked away, her footsteps fading as she disappeared down the corridor.

I opened the door to my room and lay down on my bed, my mind whirling with the events of the day. It was hard to believe that barely 24 hours had passed since I had returned to this time. In just one day, I had experienced a lifetime's worth of revelations and challenges.

The soft mattress beneath me felt both familiar and strange, a reminder of the life I had left behind and the new path that lay ahead. As I stared at the ceiling, I began to process everything - my conversation with Father, the encounter with the Celestial, and the pact of secrecy I now shared with Mother.

The weight of my future knowledge pressed heavily on my mind. How much could I change? How much should I change? And how would I navigate the trials that Zephyros had mentioned? What were the trials?

One thing was certain - my journey had only just begun, and the road ahead would be fraught with challenges I could only begin to imagine.

As my thoughts swirled, exhaustion from the day's events began to overtake me. My eyelids grew heavy, and despite the weight of my responsibilities, I found myself drifting off. Slowly, I succumbed to sleep, my mind finally quieting as I slipped into unconsciousness.
