Hours and hours pass, and Gesalt just cannot get it, he tries and tries, but the Dragon Shot just doesn't work, it's like magic itself is taunting him. Ingvald however simply just watched, unbothered that Gesalt was failing constantly, as in reality, he didn't really care what Gesalt was doing as long as it was training.
Every time Gesalt tried to use the spell, it would blow up in his face, he just couldn't do it, eventually he asked Ingvald for help.
Ingvald: Are you sure you need my help?
Gesalt: Yes.
Ingvald sighed: Fine, the reason the spell keeps failing is because you mess up with inversing the poles on your magic release Remember what the poles are, when both poles are positive, you will release healing magic, when both are negative, you will release curse magic, when one is negative and the other is positive, you release normal magic, you need to constantly invert and revert the poles at the same time, but you need to make sure that both poles do not match, if they do, then the spell blows up in your face. I suggest you take some time to train switching your poles first, then you try that dumb spell.
Gesalt: It's not dumb, and fine, if that's going to help, I'll do it, how do I do it?
Ingvald: Hmm, I was going to say that I already showed you how, but now that I think about it, I only showed you how to switch the poles for healing and curse magic, but not how to train them. Alright, I'll show you what you need to do, pay attention, okay?
Gesalt nodded, and watched Ingvald.
Ingvald: It's simple to train it, you train it by constantly switching poles, what you need to do is start and cancel healing and cursed spells, one hand will switch to healing, and the other to cursed, and then you constantly switch between them, like this.
Ingvald held his hands forward, and started to switch the poles, one arm glowed white, the other dark, and the glow quickly switched between the arms, not sitting in one arm for longer than a second.
Ingvald: See how it's done? Now you try it.
Gesalt nodded, and tried to do it, and while he could do it, it was hard, it took about 5 seconds to switch poles, and the Dragon Shot page required him to do it constantly at a quick pace, he needed to train this, and train this hard.
Ingvald: Hmm, I'd say, based on this Grimoire page, you'd need to train like this for about a week or two before you can attempt this spell, you're lucky the spell is in your affinity, otherwise, you'd be attempting this for 2 or 3 months, not 2 weeks. Listen, I'll be going to the Mage Shop in the other side of town, need anything?
Gesalt: Well, I'd like some mana potions, I'll be doing this training from morning to midnight, so I'll need it.
Ingvald: Gotcha, see you soon.
Ingvald left the room, leaving Gesalt to train switching nodes. Each time Gesalt switched nodes, his veins would burn up, and his hands would get sore, but he didn't mind, it simply meant that he has more to train. The constant switching gave him a bit of a migraine, and he honestly felt pretty tired after doing this only for a few minutes, but he pushed through. Soom after, Ingvald came with 10 vials of a transparent and viscous liquid, those are thick mana potions, known to not only regenerate your mana quickly, but they also relief fatigue, perfect for Gesalt to use in his training. Ingvald simply put them on one of the tables in the training room, and he left to do his own thing, unbothered by Gesalt's attempts, as he didn't question his methods.
For the next few days, Gesalt's routine was this, wake up, train, eat breakfast, train, eat lunch, train, 30 minute break, train, eat dinner, and train again, then he would take a bath and go to sleep. He was making progress, for sure, but it was a very unhealthy training regiment, Ingvald was getting a bit worried, but still he didn't push it, letting Gesalt train on his own.
Meanwhile, Gesalt was constantly using mana potions and switching poles, he could now switch them every 3 seconds, now 2 seconds faster than before, he was getting there, and if he kept going, soon, he will be able to do it.
Days pass, and this somewhat self-destructive routine kept going, almost a week passed, and Gesalt could now switch poles every 2 seconds, he needed to reduce that time by just a second and a half for it to fit the spell, and after that, he could do it.
Gesalt kept going and going, his progress started to slow down, and got incremental, as he was nearing the limit, he knew that if he kept going, he might not be able to make progress, but he still had to do it, so he pushed his worn body to the side, and went back to training hard.
It has now been 2 weeks, and Ingvald slowly walks to the training room, thinking that he'd see Gesalt training like usual, but as he got there, he simply saw Gesalt sitting down, and reading.
Ingvald: Hmm? You taking a break day, kid?
Gesalt: Oh, no no, I think I got it, I'm just reading the spell again to make sure I have it all right before I try it, want to see me do it?
Ingvald shrugged: Eh, sure, whatever, I just woke up, I wouldn't mind seeing you try and fail.
Gesalt wasn't nearly as amused as Ingvald at that comment, but he ignored it and he got up, he walked to the center of the room, and set up some targets, Ingvald sat down and watched.
Soon, Gesalt was done setting up, and went for it, swithing his poles constantly as needed, he opened his mouth wide, and shot magic from his mouth, an incredibly powerful flame shot ahead, destroying the targets with ease. Gesalt managed to do the Dragon Shot, and Ingvald was impressed, he clapped sort of mockingly but also impressed.
Ingvald: Not bad kid, you finally did that useless spell, don't know if it's worth notting it down in your own Grimoire since you have better spells, but congrats for torturing yourself for 2 weeks.
Gesalt wanted to say something back, but he just sighed and said nothing, he knew that to some extent, Ingvald was right, he did have better spells in his own Grimoire, so going out of his way to train a spell like this was counter-productive at best. Still, he felt proud, so he still jolted it down in his own Grimoire to show that he got far with his magic training.
