Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 | In The Distance

A day had already passed and we were almost there in Myura. Roy had told us it would take us till sunset to reach the kingdom of Myura in which I meditated some more on the carriage. Though I didn't want to go to the null realm ever again, training was a must.

Within the crevice of the opening between the cloth that hid us, the light shone onto my closed eyes. The sun's cold embrace had finally came upon us, my eyes averted itself from the light and as I turned I could see the kingdom in the distance.

"Guys I can see the kingdom!"

"Ah, I can see it too!" Dad looked out, pointing as he agreed.

The two adventurers that were with Roy still hadn't spoken to us or to each other on the carriage but it didn't bother me.

There was a problem, within the corner of my eye, something or rather, many of something approached at an alarming rate. My eyes adjusted, squinting while I focused in on the horde of creatures? What type of creature would be in that big of a group? The closer they got, the more I understood. They weren't creatures, they were-

"Charge!"

On both sides of the carriage, barbarians who were on weird looking creatures seemed to try and trap us. We were so close to the gate but still a little too far. A few of the barbarians with bows swiftly executed the Droval that we used for transport, causing the carriage to shoot everyone out forward.

As we were about to fall, wind softly guided everyone down. Who did it? I looked around and saw who it was. It was Frey, the elf.

"Frey! Grid! Keep them safe!" Roy's swift and decisive communication almost seemed as if he knew someone was coming.

Without so much as a reply the two got to work without delay, Frey simultaneously used her magic to cast large tornadoes that went beyond the clouds around us and kept a barrier over us while Grid casted something, but I didn't know what it was, till I felt light..

"Run to the gates! We'll hold them off."

The small dwarf whose hood which had still hid his face had spoken for the first time to us, it surprised me more than the barbarians who had attacked.

"Ophelia." Frey quickly placed something in my hands, closing my hand tightly. "This is a gift from Roy, don't lose it." A gift? Why couldn't he give me..

It was only now that confirmed what I thought before. Was it the barbarians he was talking about? With no time to spare, my Dad swooped me up and charged to the gates.

I looked back to see the hundreds of barbarians attacking the mere three adventurers. But.. Even though they were outnumbered what looked to be 400 to 3 they were slaughtering them with ease. Especially Roy, he was able to decapitate around 40 in one fell swoop. Was this the full power of a master aura user?

The three made quick work of the barbarians, easily wiping out over half of the barbarians within a few minutes. The bodies soon piled onto one another, heads, legs, and arms flew off with ease until every barbarian was wiped out but one.

It was hard to tell, but the man didn't seem frightened or surprised of the situation. Who was he? Roy was one of the four Z rank adventurers, he wasn't going to lose to one barbarian. Especially after the massacre of 399 barbarians!

But I was wrong. In an instant, Roy's overwhelming power, an unstoppable force, couldn't even compare to the barbarian's impenetrable defence.

An unknown barbarian capable of withstanding Roy's attack baffled me. An aura user at the master stage was said to rival those at the formed BIFROST stage, the highest stage attainable.. But the man barely seemed to flinch, wasn't 10 circles as high as you could get? No way.. Did that mean the man had the sixth stage? That shouldn't even be possible!

"Roy! Run away now!"

Roy, Frey and Grid quickly went into battle, even though they were all powerful and capable people, the man was able to defend against all three of them easily. By the time I reached the gates, I could only see the tornadoes that were created by Frey.

ROY STIEFAL:

"Guys I can see the kingdom!"

"Ah, I can see it too!"

They were a lively group, I liked that. My friends were also talkative but they were quite shy around others. They were my precious friends I made along the way! The bestest friends I could ever ask for! The kingdom was just up ahead, I was confident that even if a bandit invasion were to occur, I could handle it myself. So I wasn't worried at all.

"Charge!"

Barbarians? What a stroke of bad luck.. Did I jinx myself? It was fine, I could easily beat hundreds of barbarians by myself. Until I felt the same aura that I felt 5 years ago. It was him, Lauv Godwin, the man who murdered my teacher. How could I ever forget his god-awful smile, the ax the size of a human, the face of a satanic being.

"Frey! Grid! Keep them safe!"

Was all of my training till now all for this? To kill the man who killed my teacher? The rage within me quickly built once again, but this time, I kept my cool.

I easily decapitated many of the barbarians in one smooth movement, my technique was precise and sturdy. But it wasn't enough to make me tired. The barbarians quickly fell one by one. Soon one remained standing. His face disgusted me, it was the same feeling.

"Lauv Godwin."

"Wait a minute.. I swear I've seen you before- AH. IT'S YOU! THE BOY WHO I SPARED. HAHAHA! LOOK AT YOU, YOU'VE GROWN UP!"

His smirk was still as wide as it was before, disgusting.

"My rage hasn't subsided even now, your face is still so ugly to look at."

His smile inverted, veins bulging from his head.

"Let's see if you're strong enough to say that."

I quickly shot a slash of energy using my blade at Lauv, smoke engulfed him before fading away. It was a clean hit however, all it had done on him was the slightest scratch that had appeared on his muscular chest. Was all that training and experience for naught?

"We'll back you up Roy."

Ah, that's right. I had almost forgotten that they were with me.

"Thanks Frey, Grid. Let's do this."
