Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 Make a living by one's craft

His name is Burke Bartlett, the chief engineer of the Kingdom of Norin.

The door opened, and the person who came in was not the elegant maid, but the rough-skinned and dark-faced strong man. They added firewood to the brazier and took away a low wall design drawing.

Burke was not sitting in the magnificent library of the Kingdom of Norin at this time.

But in the corner of the wilderness, in the animal skin triangular house of the looters in Palotusby.

His students have escaped, and the team that went out to hunt them has not returned yet.

This is good news.

Burke took a sip of strong tea. He brought the things himself. He smiled and looked at his assistant. The child was always impatient and could not calm down to study, so he had not passed the exam to become a scholar so far.

"Please, let me die, it's happening again."

The assistant covered his mouth with his hand and lip-read, which was exactly the same as what Burke said behind him, saying: "We survive by our craft, and we can't care about external factors such as the environment."

Old Burke curled his lips and didn't scold the assistant's impatience.

In fact, he never criticized others and never participated in quarrels.

When the robbers locked him in an iron cage.

He calmly pointed out which wooden stake was unreasonable and which lock would break with a kick. The students remembered and tried, and successfully escaped.

When the snakehead betrayed Burke in exchange for survival.

He just nodded, then took the paper and pen and brewed his favorite strong tea.

As long as he calmed down, there was only knowledge and work in front of him, which would make him comfortable and enjoy the challenge and fun.

As for who the employer is, why bother?

"Look, we have craftsmanship, so the bad guys won't hurt us. There are spices in the food, and the house is so warm that you sweat. How happy we are."

The assistant was almost going crazy after listening to these words.

"Teacher, do you really not understand? When the work is over, people will die!"

Burke Bartlett took another sip of strong tea, shook his head, and wisdom seemed to penetrate his throat and turned into a paragraph: "We survive by craftsmanship..."

...

[Plunderer Station]

[Attitude: Hostile]

[Number of troops: 13]

Kane lifted the corner of his cloak and squatted down on the gentle slope again.

He took a deep breath and recalled the scene he had just seen in the cold wind. The gray vision had become wider as his [mental power] improved.

This is a depression.

The sentry post was set at the top of the trees on the high slope, with three sentinels forming a cross-view.

"Give it here, I'll show you how to do it."

Ken took the [Bound Longbow] and slowly pulled the bowstring. The sound of the wind around him gradually faded away. This strange phenomenon was not due to concentration, but because he had entered the spiritual world again.

Since the attribute reached [Qualification: 3.0], the experience points are difficult to meet the consumption of a one-time improvement, but can be used to improve more detailed attributes.

For example, now, Ken has poured all the experience points he got from the looters into the [Bow and Arrow] item.

"Huh~"

The bowstring tends to be stable, and the touch becomes softer.

An iron arrowhead with barbs passed through the gap between the pine needles and flew quietly in the dark blue night.

The sentry on the high platform just turned his head.

Crash, rub!

The arrowhead pierced his throat.

He was nailed to the tree trunk with his eyes wide open.

"Look, this is quite simple, try it."

Ken returned the bow and arrow to Kuima, not feeling mean at all.

The other party blinked and was silent for a moment.

Guided by the war flag, Kuima aimed at the other two targets. The one near was relatively smooth, but the one a little further away was a bit difficult.

He did not calculate the direction of the body's fall.

With a bang, the man fell directly into the firewood pile.

The looters who were bragging around the campfire turned around, and the leader blew a secret signal. No one in the forest responded, and then a series of hurried footsteps approached.

"Sorry."

Kuima blamed himself a little.

The Rangers thought that this apology was a bit nitpicking.

Ken patted him on the shoulder, and several people disappeared from the slope according to the backup plan.

Not long after, there was a commotion in the camp.

...

Burke Bartlet picked up the empty teacup.

He put the quill back into the ink bottle, put several drawing tools back into the box, and hummed the social tune again.

Heavy footsteps were heard outside the door.

Several looters came in shouting, and carried the two men out without saying anything.

"Master, don't kill us, the drawing is not finished yet."

The apprentice's legs plowed two grooves in the snow.

They were not hanged or fed to mountain cats, but were locked in a cell deep in the main house.

Burke straightened his clothes and put on his glasses after wiping them. He was a little disappointed with his apprentice and thought - maybe he really wasn't suitable for studying.

"Teacher, we are about to die!"

This kid is really pessimistic.

Burke looked around. This room was remodeled according to his own drawings.

"Look, the workmanship and details are so good. It's a pity that they have jobs, otherwise I really want to recruit them to the academy."

"Teacher!" The apprentice broke down and cried. "Can you stop thinking about the design?"

He wanted to retort that it was because of the "work" of these looters that they had fallen to this point and could die at any time.

Burke still shook his head gently, his lips and two chins were raised.

He stretched out his fat hand and continued to feel along the main beam in the cage, bypassing two key load-bearing structures, and then gently pushed...

Yaa, bang!

The whole house collapsed, and the place where they were standing was just the only safe area in the ruins.

Burke patted the dust and turned around to see that the apprentice was already sluggish.

He suddenly realized that this was an extremely rare opportunity, so he taught him earnestly: "Remember, we survive by our craft..."

Outskirts of the camp.

Two strong men were digging a pit to throw the bodies, and there were two barrels of ointment for starting a fire next to them.

The bodies had to be processed, otherwise they might crawl out one night after being infected by the hunters.

"Hmm, what's going on?"

They put down their tools and looked back, only to find that their main building had collapsed, and several companions were running around outside in a panic.

A burning arrowhead fell into the ointment.

The heat wave and the severe pain gathered into a tornado, and in just a few breaths, they were sent away.

The looters found the fire.

"The invaders are outside," they picked up their weapons and ran over. "Don't let them get away!"

However, at this time, Ken and Kuima had already taken advantage of the chaos to come to the housing area.

But no one knew what happened here.

Just when they were at a loss, Ken, who had a keen sense, discovered something unusual. He led the team over the ruins and came to the small square on the side.

Beast cages and prison cages were stacked, and a corpse was hung on the hoist.

Under the dried skeleton, two people were waiting quietly, and the young [apprentice] huddled behind, trembling, and had no backbone.

The older man, holding the wooden box, didn't seem surprised.

[Engineer Burke Bartlet]

[Attitude: Calm]

"We were going to leave." Burke's silver hair was covered with a layer of snow, and he said with a smile. "Then I heard the commotion and thought you were here to save us, so I waited here."

Ken was a little stunned.

Even he took some time to accept this fact. Since everyone was here, they could only return the same way.

Ken and his friends called their mounts and took out the token left by Mag to prove their identities.

After confirming that they were correct, they ran into the night and disappeared soon.

The apprentice shivered on the wolf's back.

But Burke was still calm.

Ken couldn't help it, so he turned around and asked, "Please tell me, what is the secret of this calmness?"

"Probably my craftsmanship. Those drawings are my capital. So the looters won't kill me. You should have work for me, right?"

Burke exposed Ken's true purpose.

He waved his hand, not listening to the specific explanation, and continued: "It's okay, I will agree, I like to work, after all...

We survive by our craft."
