Chapter 11 - She's a dangerous woman, Michael

Mia walked past her, continuing towards the bus stop. "There's nothing to talk about with you."

"Is it that there's nothing to talk about, or that you're too scared to talk?"

Kyle stepped out of the car and grabbed Mia's wrist. "Don't think I don't know what you're up to!"

"You look even younger than me. Don't tell me you've had kids—you're still a child yourself, aren't you?"

"A woman who's never had children, slaving away for a six-year-old girl, all for a few thousand dollars a month? Is that it?"

Mia shook off her hand. "Then tell me, what do you think I'm after?"

Kyle narrowed her eyes.

Yesterday, in the chaos, she hadn't paid much attention to this woman's appearance. But now, upon closer inspection, she noticed that Mia's face was like something sculpted by an artist—flawless and perfect.

"You're quite the beauty, but you should know that Michael is my fiancé."

"I suggest you don't disgrace yourself by going after him!"

Mia laughed.

When Kyle had started seducing Michael, had she thought about the fact that he was Mia's husband?

And now, with the roles reversed, she had the nerve to stand here and warn Mia not to disgrace herself?

If this was about disgrace, Kyle had lost hers long ago!

With a cold glint in her eyes, Mia stared at Kyle. "And what if I do want to go after Mr. Kingsley?"

"What are you going to do about it?"

She glanced up at the blazing sun in the sky. "In broad daylight, Miss Lawrence, are you going to kill me to keep me quiet?"

"I wouldn't go that far."

Kyle sneered, pulling a recorder out of her pocket. "You're not the only one who knows how to record conversations."

Mia narrowed her eyes—Kyle had learned quickly.

"I'm going to play this recording for Michael right now."

"Get ready to be fired!"

With that, Kyle smugly got back into her car, started the engine, and sped away.

Mia stood there, her brows furrowed.

She hadn't expected Kyle to come up with the idea of using a recording against her by bringing it to Michael.

But it didn't matter. Everything was just beginning, and Michael didn't trust her much anyway.

Kyle stormed into Michael's office with the recorder in hand.

Inside, Michael was in the middle of an international conference call.

"Michael!"

Despite White's attempts to stop her, Kyle barged in.

Ignoring everything, she burst into the room. "I've had my suspicions about that maid of yours since yesterday!"

"And I finally got proof!"

Michael frowned, his voice and gaze as cold as ice, making it hard to breathe. "Get out."

"Michael, I..."

She was about to continue when a voice from the computer interrupted, "Mr. Kingsley, if this isn't a good time, we can continue later."

Only then did Kyle realize... she had interrupted Michael's work.

"We'll continue later."

Michael coldly shut off the computer and looked up at Kyle's pale face. "Speak."

Kyle hesitated before nervously pressing play on the recorder:

"Don't disgrace yourself by going after him!"

"And what if I do want to go after Mr. Kingsley?"

"What are you going to do about it?"

"In broad daylight, Miss Lawrence, are you going to kill me to keep me quiet?"

When the recording finished, Kyle looked at him with righteous indignation. "Michael, that woman taking care of Juliet has ulterior motives. She's after you!"

"You always said you'd never keep anyone with ill intentions around."

She bit her lip, her voice softening. "Even if she treats Juliet well, she's not doing it out of genuine care. Someone like that shouldn't stay."

"I know."

Michael leaned back in his chair, his posture relaxed. "But Juliet is very attached to her right now."

"She just came back to me, and I don't want to upset her."

"Besides, she's doing a good job taking care of Juliet."

Kyle lowered her eyes and remained silent for a moment. "Actually... I could take care of Juliet."

"After all, Juliet is my niece. We share the same bloodline..."

"You? Take care of her?"

Michael's lips curled into a mocking smile. "With what? Your slaps?"

The words Kyle had carefully prepared were abruptly choked back by his sharp retort.

After a pause, she sniffed, "Michael, I know you misunderstood what happened yesterday..."

"But at the time, I really didn't know Juliet was your and my sister's daughter. I thought she was an imposter, so I... so I hit her."

She even lowered her head, letting tears fall. "No matter what, I'm still Juliet's aunt. Even if I made a mistake because of a misunderstanding, you can't just... treat me like this."

"If my sister were here, she would choose to let her own sister take care of Juliet, rather than leave her with someone with unclear motives and a questionable background..."

She cried hard, but it was all too obviously staged.

Michael found the noise grating.

He glanced at her. "There have always been plenty of people with ulterior motives around me."

Then he let out a cold laugh. "When I first got together with Mia, didn't you have other intentions towards me as well?"

"And yet, I didn't kick you out, did I?"

His words instantly stopped Kyle's tears.

She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out.

By bringing up the past, Michael was making it clear that he wouldn't follow her wishes.

After a long silence, Kyle sighed in defeat and left the room.

"Sir."

After Kyle left, White knocked and entered, placing a thick file on Michael's desk. "These are the findings from our investigation on Mira."

Michael's long fingers opened the file.

"It seems that Mira's background isn't fake."

White explained quietly, "She really did grow up abroad, studying and working there, and she only returned to the country a few days ago."

"But there's something odd. Mira was a well-established jewelry designer overseas. While she hadn't reached the level of a master, she was certainly very accomplished."

"So why would someone like her return to the country and willingly work as a maid in our household, taking care of Miss Juliet?"

Michael narrowed his eyes.

Mira's file was incredibly detailed and flawless. But it was too detailed.

So detailed that every significant phase of her life was meticulously documented, with key witnesses noted.

The more perfect it seemed, the more it felt like something was being deliberately hidden.

Michael frowned slightly. "Continue investigating."

"She claims she needs money, but her earnings as a designer abroad were substantial."

"She's not lacking in money, and she isn't a shallow woman."

His hands clasped together, his gaze cold as he stared into the distance:

"If she's approaching me just for my sake, that's one thing."

"But if..."

But if she had other motives, that would be concerning.

There was something about this woman, Mira, that didn't sit right with him.

The file on Mira was ten pages long.

Michael spent a long time reviewing it but found no obvious flaws.

Frustrated, he finally stood up and headed to the restroom.

"Alright, take care of yourself over there."

As soon as he entered the restroom, a clear, childish voice reached his ears.

Michael paused in the middle of washing his hands.

Company policy strictly prohibited bringing children to work.

So why was there a child here at this time?

Frowning, Michael followed the sound.

The voice was coming from one of the stalls.

Just as he reached the door, before he could even knock, the door suddenly swung open.

"Bang!" The door slammed hard into Michael's forehead.
