The morning air is cold as we gear up, the ground beneath our feet still damp from the night's rain. We geared up with light metal armor covered in beeswax and butter, where the acid would slide down instead of eating thru the metal. A strange mix but one that makes perfect sense when facing acid spitting Leirgas.
We've trained for weeks, honing our reflexes, learning how these reptilian beasts hunt and attack. Their acid, we learned, could eat through almost anything given time but if your fast enough, you could lean down and let the acid drip downwards, letting gravity do the trick removing the acid from your armor.
We're not just gearing up physically; our minds are set for what lies ahead, each of us quietly going over battle strategies in our heads. I glance over at my comrades, everyone seems tense, but ready. We knew this was going to be our toughest fight yet.
We had studied the Leirgas thoroughly. They're fast, agile, and always travel in packs. When they choose a prey, it's almost impossible to escape. But we aren't prey.
No, today we hunt them instead.
We had tracked them by following the signs of their presence - burnt patches of grass and trees, the remains of animals reduced to puddle courtesy of their acidic spit. It led us deep into the forest, to a series of caves beneath a hill covered with vines.
We prepare ourselves for the fight ahead, knowing they were close.
We formed three lines of defense, one near the caves, one near the trees, and one in an open field far away from their nests. We stacked paralyzing bombs, tar bombs and sleeping bombs in these areas. So in case we ran out ammunitions in our persons, we can have backups as well to continue the fight.
As we prepared our ambush, we made sure every weapon was in place: paralyzing darts, arrows, bombs, and crossbows. The sun was just beginning to rise, and we could hear the soft rustling of the forest waking up.
Where am I? Strapped to the back of Merci, looking like a monkey in a tree. I don't mind getting tumbled like a ragdoll, as long as I get to fight and earn battle experience myself.
I remember the way the cave loomed before us, dark and ominous. We had cut down a bunch of dead tree branches, dried shrubs, dried leaves earlier, using them to create makeshift tumbleweed fireball - plant resin, wood tar, and dried things wrapped together and ready to burn.
We lit them up and threw them inside the caves, hoping to smoke out the Leirgas.
It didn't take long before we heard their screeches echoing from the depths. My heart pounded in my chest as the ground began to shake slightly. Then they came, a horde of about twenty to fifty, I really couldn't tell, rushing out of the cave like a flood of serpents.
The moment they appeared, we attacked with fury from far away relentlessly.
Arrows flew through the air, as the paralyzing darts and arrow found their marks.
Paralyzing bombs exploded, filling the air with folm, mellows and jinji powder.
It was chaotic -- dodging acid spits and staying on the move was key. Their movements were fast as they weaved between trees, hunting us down but one by one they slow down, feeling the effect of the poisons.
We have trained for this. Every step, every dodge, every strike had been rehearsed.
Even as they approached us, we stayed focused, continously shooting them from afar, unrelenting.
For about twenty minutes, the battle dragged on, our long-range weapons holding them off as we continued to chip away at their numbers.
When we ran out of projectiles, we switched to our ball whips and it became a fight of hit and run, with us running for our lives dodging between acid spits and bites.
Merci, knowing that he can regenerate himself, acted as a tank and letting the Leigas bite him, only for him to smack them in the head unconscious with his bare fist.
Did guy literally forget that I'm dangling in his back like an exposed chicken leg, luckily father and mother protected me from the back while shoots with her poison dart in a very tall tree, not really making a move and barely making a rustle.
I could hear the crack of the ball whips as it struck the Leirgas repeatedly hitting them in the head or in the face. We made sure that the ball won't hurt them too much by using wood balls instead of stone or metal balls, and coated the balls with paralyzing toxins as well.
It wasn't easy—these creatures were relentless—but slowly, we began to gain the upper hand. One by one, they fell, immobilized by our attacks. Exhausted but victorious, we stood amongst their fallen forms, our breaths coming out in ragged gasps.
Just as we thought the battle was over, it wasn't.
Inside the caves, we heard more movements. We cautiously went inside them, and what we found made my blood run cold—four giant Leirgas, much larger than the others, probably the size of horses. They were stunned because of the smoke, but wouldn't leave for some reason as if protecting something. Our guess were right, they were protecting their eggs it seems.
When they saw us, they snapped out of their turpor angry of the sight of people near their nests.
They charged at us angrily, as we scramble to run outside the caves for our lives.
They weren't as fast or agile as the little ones, but their size and armor-like scales made them far more dangerous.
We retreated quickly, luring them out into the open where we could fight on our terms. These beasts were tougher; the paralyzing toxins barely seemed to affect them.
It took everything we had to bring them down. We used our hidden ace to fight them, tar bombs that we stacked in an open field far away from the caves to slow their movements.
We for their legs then switching to sleeping bombs to subdue them.
Dodging their acid spit was terrifying, but we used the forest to our advantage, hiding behind trees and launching hit-and-run counter attacks. Frustrated by our tactics, the giant Leirgas split up, making them easier to isolate and defeat.
Even so, it took nearly thirty minutes of grueling combat before we finally managed to capture them. We avoided killing them for future study.
By the time the last of the giant Leirgas was subdued, we were all beyond exhausted. Every muscle in my body ached, and my lungs burned from the effort. But we had done it. We had defeated them.
We tied their mouths shut with thick ropes and carefully loaded them into wooden cages we had prepared in advance. There was a sense of pride among us, a shared feeling of accomplishment that made the pain and exhaustion worthwhile. We had faced one of the deadliest creatures in the region, and we had won. Even trolls are afraid of these monsters.
"I asked my comrades to sweep the road in the area, trying to find the real source of these monsters. They are not native of this place. Sure enough, they found a broken merchant caravan at the foot of the hill where the Leirga caves were found. Rare animal smugglers. These animals most likely came from the desert plains and are taken here to be sold to merchants who would use them as aphrodisiacs, medicines and as cure alls. The mystery has been solved.
Some Leirgas were killed. We stacked them together and put them inside some of the cases we have. Some of them would be sent to the Adventurers Guild to be studied, some would be taken to the Alpha Church hidden camps scattered in the area.
As we made our way back to the Adventurers Guild, we couldn't stop talking about the battle. We analyzed every move, every strategy, discussing what worked and what didn't. There was a sense of camaraderie among us now, a bond forged in the heat of battle. I could see it in their faces—the same sense of pride I felt when I started in the Peacekeepers. But even as we celebrated, an idea began to form in my mind.
"What if we could tame these creatures?" I asked the group, my voice breaking the steady rhythm of our footsteps. They looked at me curiously, waiting for me to explain. "Think about it. If we could tame them and breed them, we could gain valuable experience fighting them in controlled environment. It would be like farming experience points while minimizing the risk of casualties."
The idea seemed to resonate with them. They nodded, some more enthusiastically than others, but all of them understood the potential. Taming these creatures would be no easy task, but if we could manage it, we would have an invaluable resource at our disposal.
We could learn to fight them better, we could learn how to use them in battle.
"Acid spitting Liergas! Think about the possibilities!" I say with enthusiasm. "We could use them in rescuing the children, as they would melt wood and metal easily.
My parents faces lit up.
"Your right! We can use them to save the children in Francia!" We can infiltrate their bases and use Liergas to destroy the doors locks to get in." Royce said.
"That's a good idea son but we also need to keep this a secret because of bad people learns of this strategy that you are thinking, war would have more casualties." Father said.
"I can't wait to sink my teeth into this fat boy." Merci patting the back of a sleeping adult Leirga.
Everyone looks at Merci with disgust.
"What?" Merci laughed.
We have decided to take all of the living Leirgas to the Alpha camps instead and just sent the dead Leirgas to the Adventurers Guild. 25 of them got killed, about thirty two survived, including the 4 adult Leirgas we fought.
We went back to the Adventurers Guild as adventurers and other people gather around looking at the dead Leirgas.
Everyone was stunned. They couldn't believe we defeated all these Leirgas without having any casualties. How? Most of the people would ask. This gave us the opportunity in asking for new recruits in our team.
Many young farmers and young people offered to join our team. We accepted them, choosing the ones without any dark aura. We got 12 new recruits in Mirabelle. We couldn't believe our eyes.
We made the rules to be followed by new recruits and the compensation that would be paid everytime a mission is successful. We also enticed them to work hard so in the future, they can be the future leaders of each respective teams.
The young ones were excited and happy to be part of our teams. Little do they know that we are Alpha members and ex Flip members. We would teach them the ways of Alpha secretly and hopefully in the future, they would join us of their own free volition. That would make Alpha really happy.
That all really all that matters in the end. Makes Alpha happy and proud. Elevate his name thru our good deeds and defeat the forces of the evil one.
