Eunice's POV
I haven't been paying attention to Lily for a few days now, probably because I was hurt by what I heard the other day. I don't know what secret she and Arcus are keeping. All I know is that my wounded heart needs to heal.
"Eunice, are you okay?" Dad suddenly asked while we were having dinner. I really didn't plan to eat, but Dad and Mom would get mad if I didn't.
"Yes, Dad," I replied with a smile.
"Eunice, if you're thinking about school, stop it. We're eating, and I don't want you thinking about anything else but our dinner," Dad said seriously.
I nodded at what he said and went back to eating. I just wanted to finish my meal so I could go to my room.
It still hurts to think that there might be a relationship between Arcus and Lily, which is why Arcus is pushing me away, and why Lily hasn't been answering Ulysses even though he's been pursuing her for a long time.
After dinner, I went straight to my room, took a quick bath, and went right to bed. I wanted to stalk Arcus on Facebook, but I chose to sleep instead.
The next day, I walked into school feeling down. When I arrived at the gate, I saw Lily and Arcus talking. Arcus was smiling while talking to Lily, seemingly sharing a joke.
I ignored them and headed straight to class.
"Eunice!" I heard Lily calling, but I didn't pay her any attention and walked into our classroom, even as I could still hear her calling for me.
Once I sat down, I noticed my classmates gathered together next to my seat. I became curious and approached them.
"piglet has a secret admirer," shouted by my male classmate, and they all laughed together.
"Maybe she just gave it to herself," another remarked before returning to their seats.
I looked at my desk and saw a red box with a note attached to it.
"I'm sorry, my love,"
I opened the box to find a beautiful gold necklace with a heart-shaped pendant; I thinks it is a real gold.
I was about to ask my classmates who gave the gift, but just then our teacher for the first period arrived, with Lily behind her. I quickly hid the gift in my bag and sat up straight.
Lily sat next to me, but like the past few days, I didn't talk to her even though I could feel her stealing glances at me.
After a little over an hour of class, I breathed a sigh of relief because our seating arrangement was changing, and I would be sitting at the front. That meant I wouldn't be sitting next to Lily.
"Eunice, please talk to me," I heard Lily pleading, but I ignored her. I just rested my head on the desk and closed my eyes.
She called out to me several more times, but I think she got tired of calling because she fell silent.
"Is this how a good student behaves during class?" I heard a familiar voice say to me.
I straightened up and coughed because it felt like something was stuck in my throat. Why was he here? Doesn't he have a class of his own?
"S-sorry," I said instead of asking the questions swirling in my mind.
He didn't respond and instead looked at my classmates.
"Good morning, Grade 11 HUMSS 1. Ma'am Belinda isn't here today, but she asked me to supervise you while you work on the activity she assigned. Take out your notebooks and answer the activity she mentioned yesterday," he said, looking seriously at me.
He had been smiling at my classmates, but his gaze was serious when it came to me.
I chose not to pay attention to them and began answering the questions. I was in the middle of it when I heard a loud noise from the back.
I turned around to see Arcus rushing to help someone who had fallen. It was Lily.
"Are you okay? What hurts? Do you want me to take you to the clinic?" he asked Lily in rapid succession.
I could only chuckle softly and turned my gaze away from them. Maybe if I fell in front of him, he wouldn't care; he might even laugh at me.
I could still hear Arcus's concern in his questions, as well as my classmates' worries. I had finished answering, so I placed my paper on the table.
"Ugh, Eunice has such a terrible attitude; she doesn't even help her friend. She prioritized answering the activity instead," I heard my classmates whispering. They were gossiping, but even Arcus didn't bother to reprimand them. He was still in front of Lily.
I ignored all the whispers and simply closed my eyes again, even though I wanted to cry and scream at them all.
"At least Arcus cares about Lily. Doesn't Eunice like Arcus?" I heard someone behind me say.
"Yeah, but who would actually like a piglet? Maybe that's why she's angry—because her friend and her crush are getting along. She's just being flirtatious," replied the person talking to them.
"Are you guys going to stop? If you're just going to whisper, at least do it quietly behind me," I said irritably, turning to face the two people behind me.
"We're not doing anything to you, Eunice, so stop making things up. Have some shame," Mildred said.
"You're lying," I responded.
"We're silent here," Camille said and write something on her paper and she showed it to me.
"Freak"
"How dare you?!" I shouted. I saw my other classmates looked at us.
"You're so immature Eunice, can you just shut up and sit down?" Mildred said and smirked
"You are the one who should shut up," I said. I just can't stop my anger, I wanted to shout and cry.
They were about to reply when we heard a loud noise from behind us. Arcus punched a chair while giving me a fierce look.
"Shut up!"
