Chapter 3 - ep 3: attempted murder, my bad

i lifted my hands off of his, slowly, delicately, a couple tears had bled down my face, i don't know when they did that, it didn't matter, my face had stayed straight the entire time, but i always teared easily, i'd long since trained my face to ignore them. I smiled at him gently, but fear, i knew he could see the fear in my eyes, how could i not fear him? How can you not fear someone who rewrites everything that your body takes as truth? it isn't pain he serves, it's lies but, the problem isn't that they are lies, it is that those lies are true. I needed to move, to get back to reality but, i was stuck, the residue of what i'd just felt was washing over me, and so, what else could i do? what any sane person would do.

hahaha.

I guess he didn't expect it.

Why would he? I was afraid of him, and so was anyone else who was smart enough to figure it out. Luxian not only interfered with nerves, he literally completely controlled your nerves, if he wanted to, he could tell your brain to shut down. And it would do it, because that is how nerve signals work; he completely takes over the entire nervous system, and every signal it can make.

How is that not horrifying? he could give you the most wonderful euphoria, or the worst depression, and he would be using real signals, so the body not only remembers them forever, but he can change their pathways, he can create different channels for what makes you upset, he can set different patterns for what makes you happy. he can cut off your nerves to not feel pain, as he stabs you in the spleen. Absolutely terrifying. luckily, touch was such a strong limiter, or he would be treated as a monster and imprisoned all his life.

He gazed at me, reveling, on the sorrow he has just wreaked upon me. I smiled back, and nonchalantly, raised my hand from my pocket...

and shot him three times in the heart.

Luxian gazed at me, eyes hazing over, completely confused for a moment. Then he glanced down at the blood quickly soaking through his shirt. Perhaps he couldn't predict it because my expression was so relaxed, perhaps it was because he didn't think I'd be able to take a gun past their sensors when entering the building earlier. I didn't matter, I blew off the resulting smoke from the barrel, and put it away, strolling past him, where he stood, trying to keep his heart beating and his blood inside, i slapped his shoulder as I walked past, a smile bright on my face, "I'm sorry about that, didn't mean to, believe me, if it's any consolation, take it as revenge for the prank you pulled." pain shook up my arm from contact with his shoulder, but i ignored it. Fearing something was as good as losing to it. I called 911 once i was around the corner, informing them of an innocent getting shot three times in the street.

I went home, Luxian went to go save his life at some hospital, and then came back to meet me as dusk fell. By then, i had finished severing all the strings to my old life. He found me at the entrance with two suitcases: one small briefcase, one large duffle bag, and a large umbrella.

We both smiled as we greeted one another. "it didn't hurt, i hope?"

"no." a dumb question, and him replying to it so seriously made me giggle.

"that's nice" i replied, jealous. imagine being able to stay awake during your surgery to watch? or walk normally after you stub your toe?

he made a swipe at me, his hands were fast, fast and graceful, but the glint of steel had been obvious since he walked up with his large sleeves. My eyes twitched, and without looking, id used the palm of my hand to push the blade to the side, the pain, impossible to ignore, as if i was cutting off my own hand, the moment i made contact with his wrist, whatever, not like I hadn't felt that before, and ducked under his arm, to kick backward at his back. However, to someone who can ignore pain, fighting is ridiculous, so i grabbed the umbrella to hook his wrist, and twisted it into his hand. He didn't let go, stupid, no pain-feeling warthog. Whatever, i changed tactics, pulling his arm toward myself, and grabbing his long hair, to slam him face-first into the mud, and stand on his neck, with how thick my old boots were, he couldn't attack my nerves. My other foot stood on the needle-like blade, as i stepped off his neck.

he surrendered the knife for the dignity of standing back up.

He glared at me.

"there, that looks more like you." i kicked the blade up from the ground, to catch it lithely, and rub the tip fondly, after all, i really did like this beauty the moment i saw her. I looked up at him, sighing. "what will it take for you to drop it?"

He thought for a moment. and then sighed. "fine, it can be over, however, i don't like the hospital, so you must give your word, that one, you won't ever be the reason I'm sent there again, and two, you will keep someone else from sending me there." he looked at her as if in pain, but annoyed. It seems he if had acknowledged her strength, and didn't hate her for it, nice.

"alright, i promise I'll never make you have to go to the hospital again....and keep others from sending you there."

---the next morning---

"What were you thinking???" silver man raged at Luxian, as he paced the floor, - i'd obviously hacked into the video feed of the place already, and had a good view of silver head's office. I couldn't hear them, but, well, not like that changed anything from the norm - "i trusted you with this, because i thought you weren't the type to get tricked..." he slammed his hands on the table to glare at Luxian. "and yet? you let her go off on her own all day?"

Luxian picked his ears, uncaring-like, leaning against the wall in a relaxed fashion, he admired the the pinky that he'd just used. a frown on his face. "i just don't like her."

"so you didn't watch her because you didn't like her?" Actually, the worst part is, that was just like Luxian. He was the smartest of them, but also the most unreliable for anything.

Luxian glared at him. he pushed off from the wall. "if you want her watched, you do it yourself, she sucks to hang out with." 'i'd like to see you keep following her with three bullets in your heart'

he went to lean on a wall farther away, nearer to the door, and no longer facing silver head

Silver sighed, plopping down onto his seat, and glanced at the others in the room.

"she isn't normal." mentioned the tall one, his lithe frame, was postured on a tall stool, hunched over.

Maxin relaxed to the side, on a huge arm chair, sitting sideways, he yawned, stretching. "judging from what you said, lux, this girl may have powers."

"she didn't use any when around me." replied Luxian disgruntledly. He hated the nickname Lux.

"yeah, well, that just furthers my point, what kinda normal person, if they had superpowers, would not reveal them under the assault of your control? regardless of supernatural or not, she is not normal."

"unfortunately, we don't have evidence." sighed silver brow, sitting down in defeat. he glanced at Luxian. "say, you have any idea of what can make her reveal herself, such as, what ticks her off?"

Luxian glared at him. "No, and i won't be having anything to do with her from now on, so leave it, and get Maxin to do something."

"no, no, no," sighed silver head, "Maxin is too.....unsuited for this."

"hey! What do you mean by that?" A fearsome presence entered the room. and everyone's worst nightmares were coming alive.

silver head immediately softened. "no, no, no, i didn't mean it in that way, i meant that you u just aren't wired as well for this particular mission, your talents lie in other places"

"are you saying I'm dumb!?"

"you said it first." smirked Luxian.

"nooooo, no, of course not, I'm just saying, i don't want to burden you with troublesome issues, when you are so good at other things, how about we have Grax or Alaxyl do it?"

"I'll do it." confirmed the one i cared not for excitedly, rubbing his hands together.

"...i don't know if you can handle her..." reminded the tall one softly, as he sipped coffee from his stool.

"Hey! What are you saying, Alaxyl? Don't take my cake! I was the first one to find her, let me do it, Briox!"

Silver face thought for a moment. "...fine, it'll be you, Grax, just don't let her leave, keep surveillance on her, and when you get a chance, provoke her."

This was so dumb, i felt, looking in on their conversation. They really thought i was something special, huh? no, i was just a person who barely scratched past high school, to luckily land a job at a tech company, and, having not made enough money to keep up with rent and save for a car, after two raises in the last year, I started working deliveries fulltime as well and part time EMT, from a certification i got during a cultural exchange. I was normal, other than trying to file independently within my first year out of HS, to escape my overly controlling mother.

I felt the air shift behind me, and quickly exited the tabs i was watching surveillance through, turning to face the intruder with a smile on my face. It was my coworker, the only female besides me in our department, and the coworker most enthusiastic about my new employment. She was a shorter girl, incredibly thin, with curly blond hair, heavy make up and was always chewing bubble gum.

"what's up, Yierites?" I asked gently, her face hid little, despite her efforts, it was obvious she had another problem. I'd already solved a problem with the elevator that her entire team had deemed impossible to do, and i suppose at this time, she was just even more curious about my capabilities.

"...Say," she spoke both lightly and softly, it barely ruffed the air around her or her own chest, "You said you knew a bit about computers, right?"

"yes."

"then...could you come look at one, all of us have been really stumped on it..."

i glanced at all the men around, various degrees of expression, from annoyance that their girl mascot had so much confidence in the newbie, to interest to see what she could do, to perhaps....a tiny bit of hopefulness that she would fail.

I was intrigued enough to give it a go, plus i wanted to keep this job, i needed it...for my ultimate revenge I'd planned out since junior high.

"show me the sauce." i requested excitedly. as Yierites went to grab the culprit of this investigation, i turned to one of the men sitting at a desk nearer to mine. He didn't seem to like me, which is strange, since I'm positively gorgeous, regardless if u can see it at the moment or not, with my baggy, over-sized jeans with 6 huge pockets, giant hoodie beany hat....oh and the fact that i wore my neck gaiter up with sunglasses...since I'm shy, ok?

"so, is it a hardware issue, or a software one?" i asked.

The thin bald man ignored my question. normally, i'd just go ask someone else, this time however, i think i don't wanna be bossed around as much as my old job, plus i was basically guaranteed to not get fired, with the terms i got silver face to add to my contract. I nodded in understanding. "I see, so you don't know, that makes sense, it's hard for most people to tell where the issue could potentially lie..."
