Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 - Separate Quarters

Business block, Zithen family complex, State Zhyphrese, Draconian continent Voldage, and the Year 2041, Planet Grimoire.

No sooner had people who just wanted sleep voiced more complaints than Tae-Jun found a notification. It was with a sense of relief that he discovered where he'd been assigned: "Dormitory B, floor 7, suite # 7505." He murmured, looking at the details.

Now, his main problem was finding out how he could get there.

Cilin yawned. He and Shellu bid each other farewell. Then Cilin walked over to Tae-Jun's side. "So, where are you assigned?"

Tae-Jun blinked at Cilin in surprise. "Uhm, here." He couldn't make out any other details. Where was a diagram of the complex when one needed it?

Cilin's eyebrows rose. "You're getting the royal treatment tonight. Savor it while you still can." He glanced at his communicator. "Hmm, it looks like support staff will share the suite."

Tate yawned. "Well, I'm outta here. I've got my assigned suite." He glanced at them. "Good luck managing to get to the dormitory buildings. I heard they were still under renovation." He smirked slightly. "That's why I recommended finding a different place to sleep." With a casual wave, Tate left the restaurant with a jaunty grin and humming under his breath.

Well, Tae-Jun had few options of what he could do. "Hmm, this is going to get awkward fast."

Cilin shook his head. "We're going somewhere else," he stated flatly. "I don't trust those directors," he growled, "Especially not the scatterbrain who came up with this temporary sleeping assignment." His blatant disgust made the other trainees blanch.

"What beef do you have with the director Galleon?" Shamus came back in time to hear Cilin's scathing disapproval.

"Hmm, well, this smacks of her knowing damn well that renovation is going on." Cilin shrugged. "Which means there'll be more complaints lodged in the afternoon."

Well, whatever, Tae-Jun was too tired to care. "Fine, but we must leave here so the employees can clean up." He wondered if this place had specific opening and closing hours. However, even Tae-Jun could see the staff's fatigue and resentment building up. They clearly wanted to clean up and close for the night.

Cilin nodded. "Good idea," He was distinctly more cheerful than before.

While Tae-Jun was glad about it, he was more worried about what might be encountered outside the business building. However, he was relieved when nothing too worrisome occurred. As they emerged into an underground exit, Tae-Jun was baffled. "What is this place?" He looked around in confusion. Did they not have vehicles? Or if they did, what kind were they?

"Hmm?" Cilin blinked at him. "Err, we don't have typical transportation around here." He'd caught a glimpse of what Tae-Jun recalled from his other life. "We utilize magic, and part of that is built into stable portals."

Portals, huh? Tae-Jun blinked when he considered the implications. "Magic portals, does that mean teleportation is normal?" He found it quite bewildering, to be honest.

Cilin shrugged. "We do it for long distances," he yawned. "However, this time, we're going by a different route. Follow me." Cilin walked away, with Tae-Jun trailing in his stead.

Since none of this was familiar, memories from the other Tae-Jun notwithstanding, he was at something of a loss. While Tae-Jun knew how to make different kinds of things work, some of his knowledge wasn't at all useful when it came to getting around different locations.

Finally, after walking through four different surprisingly clean and tidy alleyways for delivery routes, Cilin walked directly to a plain door and knocked on it briskly.

It opened, and a woman with disheveled white blond hair similar to Cilin's appeared to stare at them in puzzled silence. "Oh, I take it that the first day ended?" She yawned when Cilin nodded.

She motioned for them to enter. "Come in. I have two rooms prepared," she explained briefly. Four others were sent here, too."

Cilin hesitated. "Actually, we were supposed to go to this place instead." He showed it to the female.

"Pft...Yeah, that's not happening. That building won't be ready for another week at most." She made a rude noise. "Most of the trainees were promptly redirected elsewhere." She clearly could have been more impressed with handling the situation. "That is how four others were dumped on my doorstep without warning."

Tae-Jun grimaced when he heard that.

Cilin closed his eyes. "I'm sorry they did that without any warning to you, Davi," He shrugged with a sigh.

Davi smirked. "Nah, it's what I expected to happen since dear Aunt Dorlina was in charge of the sleeping arrangements." She resumed her explanation. "I made sure to keep them on different floors from the suite you two will share tonight."

A suite, huh? Tae-Jun was curious to know what that meant. He was uncomfortable upon noticing that footwear had been removed. "Err, I have claws and talons for feet. Will that be an issue?"

The woman glanced at him in surprise. "Nah, the floor is perfect for blunting those talons, which are probably ruining the insides of those boots."

Tae-Jun shrugged since he wasn't sure about that. He removed the boots, and she took them in her hand. "They'll be properly repaired and reinforced when you awaken in the morning."

That was their cue to go to bed. Tae-Jun didn't mind. He and Cilin took the two keys handed to them and headed up the staircase, which led to a hallway of doors. There were communal bathrooms placed on either end of the hallways and in the center of them, too. On one end, there was a bank of elevators.

Cilin headed to that area and went to the central one. "This one goes to the ninth floor. That is where our rooms are located." He explained calmly.

Tae-Jun blinked. "Okay." He wasn't about to argue when Cilin knew his way around the building. To Tae-Jun, this looked different from a typical dormitory, but what did he know?

It took about five minutes before they reached the ninth floor. However, once they stepped out, Tae-Jun was amazed at the sight. There were only four doors available. He and Cilin went to the one with the number 901, clearly painted in bold gold numbering.

They took a single bedroom, showered in the attached bathrooms, and fell asleep in the beds. Neither of them could articulate a single sensible word.

Conversation would have to wait until they could string together a coherent sentence..
