Chapter 10: The Arcane Selection and the Lore of Halonia
Alex first picked up a book titled "Lumia's Glimmer," a tier 0 spell offering illumination and slight healing effects. The next book he examined was "Radiant Bolt Strike," an offensive spell that can also disorient the enemy. "Sounds like a good offensive spell," Alex thought. "I will put it aside for now. Okay, the next one is called 'Starlight Whisper,' a utility and support type spell, but not for me. If there is no defense-type spell, I will choose 'Radiant Bolt Strike' even though it has high requirements with my rare grade essence," he concluded, "it's worth it."
After going through the books, Alex didn't find any defense-type spells but did discover an interesting spell called "Lunar Beast's Glare." Although it was a support-type spell, it still didn't fit his interests. In the end, Alex decided to pick "Radiant Bolt Strike."
He then called out to Demarcus about his choice. "Village Head, I have made my choice!"
Demarcus entered the room and asked, "So what spell did you choose, Alex?"
Alex showed him the book he had selected. "This is the spell 'Radiant Bolt Strike.'"
Demarcus looked at the spell and wondered, "Are you sure you want to choose this spell? It has high requirements."
"I know, but I'm confident that with my rare essence, it will be fruitful!" Alex replied.
"Alright, I won't try to persuade you since you sound confident. Let's return the spells to their cabinet and I will open the one with the tier-one spells for you," Demarcus said.
After they put all the tier zero spells back in their place, Demarcus approached the middle cabinet in the room and opened one of the doors. "This is where the tier one light spells are. Unfortunately, we only have three spells," sighed Demarcus.
Alex heard Demarcus sigh and asked, "Village head, are tier-one spells rare?"
"Not exactly," Demarcus replied. "Tier one spells in various parts of the continent are considered common, and the light-type spells will be considered more uncommon. But since we are far from any major population, we do not have many resources and everything we buy is pricey for us. I wish we had more light-type spells since unique essence is considered part light. But enough with the foul mood. Let me tell you about these three spells, and then you decide which one you want.
The first one is called "Autolumin Motion." It is a support-type spell that manifests orbs of light that illuminate the area intelligently. It can also be used for distraction and confusing enemies. The second spell is called "Ragged Luminance." It is a spell that strengthens the protection on your clothes and can also hide your face if needed. And now the third and final spell is "Illuminare Scriptum." This is a support-type spell that enhances focus and comprehension while reading and can also provide mild preservation on text."
Demarcus put the last spell on the table and looked at Alex. "Now Alex, what is your decision?"
Alex kept thinking about Demarcus's description of the spells. 'The "Autolumin Motion" does not seem useful to me right now. The "Ragged Luminance" looks like the best choice, but the "Illuminare Scriptum," although not what I currently need, does not sound bad, because I do read books a lot. It will help me more in the future.'
"Village head, I choose the "Illuminare Scriptum"," Alex declared.
"Really? I was certain you would choose the "Ragged Luminance." What made you reach that decision?" Demarcus asked in wonder.
"I think that the "Illuminare Scriptum," while it won't provide me much help right now, will in the future," explained Alex.
"Hmm, I see. Okay, now that you have made your decision about the tier zero spell and the tier one spell, you can take them with you. Usually, normal people take about 1 week to memorize a tier zero spell and about 3 weeks to memorize a tier one spell I believe, one month should be enough for you to then return them to the library. Is that acceptable?"
"Yes, yes, very acceptable," Alex replied.
"Okay, now you can read what you want in the library. You can read as much as you want but pay attention because tonight, we are going to be attacked by that beast horde, so do not wander outside of the library. I will get you back or I might send someone else, okay?" Demarcus said strictly.
"I understand, village head. "I will not forget myself," Alex assured him.
Demarcus smiled. "Okay, I will leave you to it."
Demarcus then left the library, leaving Alex alone.
Okay, my goal is to find a book about the history of this world, after that, we will see how it goes. Alex then went through the books when he finally found a book called "The History of Our World, Halonia." He picked it up, sat at the table and started to read.
There was a rumor that the world of Halonia was a fragmented world created by a powerful powerhouse. Since the rumor started 10,000 years ago, all kinds of civilizations outside of the world started exploring Halonia, only to be met with countless natural disasters as they fell grave into Halonia that kept happening from time to time. After 10,000 years no civilization managed to successfully get into Halonia, then came the Alonian Hegemony Civilization. The first civilization that managed to get settled in Halonia was the Alonian Hegemony Civilization. They reigned supreme in Halonia for a bit until another civilization called the Infernalis Dominion Civilization came and a great war started between them that lasted for about two hundred years until the two sides could not bear the losses and decided to never fight anymore. Both civilizations decided to settle in the continent that is called today "Emberia," and from that event started the golden age of Halonia.
All kinds of figures started rising to power, Kra'bal, the Infernal Reaper of the Kra'bal continent, Kishan The Fury Doom Gorilla of the Kishan continent, Thyra Wintermoon, the Moonshadow Archer of Thyra continent, Eldrin Stormwatcher Guardian of the Tempest of Eldrin continent, the continent of the human race, Cassia, the Spirit of the Ancient Forest of the Cassia continent, and there is also Lyria continent that's also resided by a lot of mystical creatures. Besides that, there are 3 oceans in our world, The Forbidden Water, which is in the center of Kra'bal, Emberia, and Thyra, The Depths of Kearcook, that in the center of Eldrin, Thyra, and Lyria, and the final Ocean is called The Infinite Abyss that surrounds all of our world, and if you are not strong enough don't even think about sailing in them.
Since the rise of these powerful figures, all kinds of ruins of ancient civilizations started sprouting across all over the world, in the continents, and even in the depths of the seas, fighting control all over them even until today. This is the History of Halonia.
Alex then closed the book, and a shocked look was seen on his face. "This world sounds so interesting! I wonder if those powerful figures still exist today, and there are also ancient civilization ruins! And the unexplored oceans! I really want to start adventuring in all those places, but unfortunately, I am too weak to do that right now, but not in the future. Okay since now I have the history of Halonia settled I should read more about common things in this world."
Alex then got up and returned the book and started exploring all kinds of books about the normal in Halonia, the economy, and the cultivation system which sounded easy to understand, the first rank is called rank 1 and from then it goes up to rank 9 and some even believe there is rank 10, but no one knows until this day. Alex continued reading until the middle of the night and then he decided he should start reading the spells he got, he first started with the "Radiant Bolt Strike", he sat down and started reading about it, an hour passed and Alex finished memorizing the whole spell, he was surprised, didn't the village head said it takes about one week to memorize a tier zero spell, how did I manage to that in one hour, pondering about his achievement Alex then heard the library door opens.
And Alex sees Elder Gavum enter "Alex how are your readings so far?" Alex smiled and said, "So far it's been great, I have chosen 2 spells thanks to the village head's generosity, and I have managed to learn more about Halonia!" Elder Gavum nodded "That sounds good, what spells did you choose?" "I chose the tier zero spell "Radiant Bolt Strike" and the tier one spell "Illuminare Scriptum"" Elder Gavum looked surprised "You chose "Radiant Bolt Strike" That's a bold choice it has high requirements, and the "Illuminare Scriptum" is not very helpful in my opinion, are you certain about your choices?" "I am certain Elder Gavum, I don't regret my choices," said Alex with a smile on his face. Then Suddenly the door to the library opened once again...
