Chapter 27: Nurse Evelyn
As they moved further inside, Sevi's attention was drawn to a young woman working at a desk in the corner.
She had a distinctly foreign appearance, with short, neatly styled hair and striking, refined features. Her youth was evident, and her beauty was marked by an air of grace and elegance.
'...Even side characters are beautiful. Seriously this dating sim game.' Sevi thought, inwardly shaking his head.
The woman was absorbed in her work, surrounded by a stack of medical papers and a textbook open in front of her. Her focused expression indicated that she was deeply engaged in researching something.
Noemi approached her with a friendly wave.
"Evelyn, hi. I'm here for a quick check-up."
Evelyn looked up from her work, her face brightening with a welcoming smile.
In her attempt to quickly tidy up the desk, she accidentally knocked over a cup of pens.
'Pretty clumsy for a nurse.' Sevi thought with a hint of amusement.
"Hello, Noemi! I'll be right with you. Oh, and—" Evelyn's gaze shifted to Sevi, who was standing nearby.
"Who's this?"
Sevi watched Evelyn's clumsy but earnest attempt to manage her tasks. He noted her professional demeanor amid her small mishaps and decided to introduce himself.
"I'm Sevi," he said with a friendly smile.
"Noemi's friend."
Evelyn's eyes widened slightly in surprise, and she looked at Noemi with a questioning expression.
"Does he knows about your--
Noemi cut her off with a nonchalant shrug. "Medications? Yeah, it's fine. He already knows."
'Ohh... so Evelyn knows that Noemi is a half-beastman on medication. ' Sevi thought.
Evelyn nodded, her expression shifting to one of relief and understanding.
"Alright then. Let's get started."
As Noemi prepared for her check-up, she turned to Sevi and said, "You can just stay seated here. I'll be done soon."
"Oh, sure." Sevi said as he gave her an understanding nod and took a seat.
Evelyn then guided Noemi to one of the clinic's beds. She began adjusting the bed's position and carefully closed the curtains around it to ensure privacy.
'Chance! I can look around the clinic a bit, maybe I can find something.'
Sevi took the opportunity to look around the clinic. With Noemi and Evelyn out of sight, Sevi's attention turned to the surroundings.
He glanced at the walls lined with medical charts and health posters, noting how neatly everything was organized despite Evelyn's earlier clumsiness. The shelves were stocked with various medical supplies, each item meticulously arranged.
Sevi noticed a small desk in the corner of the room cluttered with books and papers. It looked like a mix of medical research and personal notes, giving the impression that Evelyn was deeply invested in her work.
'Seems like Evelyn is really into her job,' Sevi thought, observing the care she had put into organizing her workspace.
He then spotted a bulletin board with notices and announcements for students, including information about health and wellness workshops. The board seemed to be a hub for keeping students informed about clinic services.
'It just look like a normal clinic to me,' Sevi thought as he didn't find anything particularly odd in the clinic.
Everything appeared well-organized and in order. With a final glance around, he settled back into his seat, waiting for Noemi and Evelyn to finish.
After a short while, the curtains around Noemi's bed rustled as Evelyn pulled them back. Noemi emerged, looking much like she had when she entered—just a bit more relaxed.
Evelyn, holding a small bottle of medication, handed it to Noemi with a professional but friendly smile.
"All set," Evelyn said cheerfully.
"You should take this as directed. If you have any questions or need anything, feel free to come back."
Noemi accepted the bottle with a nod. "Thanks, Evelyn. I will."
Sevi stood up as Noemi approached him.
"All done?" he asked, trying to gauge how the check-up had gone.
Noemi nodded, "Yep, everything's fine. Ready to head back?"
"Sure," Sevi replied, and together they made their way out of the clinic, leaving behind the quiet space and the efficient but somewhat clumsy nurse.
As they walked back across campus, Sevi glanced at Noemi and asked,
"So, is the medication bottle you got always from Evelyn, or do you get them from others too?"
Noemi looked thoughtful for a moment. "Usually, I get my medications from Evelyn. She's the one who's been handling my prescriptions since I was a child."
"Oh..!" Noemi then covered her mouth as she realized she slipped with her words.
"Since you were a child?" Sevi probed, noticing her slip.
"Oh, uh, I didn't mean to say that but I've known Evelyn for a long time."
Sevi nodded, taking in her explanation. Sevi then leaned closer to Noemi and whispered in a small voice.
"Just a random thought Noemi... do you think Evelyn could be a suspect in switching the bottles?"
Noemi shook her head firmly. "No way. I know Evelyn well. I don't think she'd do something like that."
"Hmmm... Alright." Sevi said, nodding thoughfully.
'...That Evelyn, she still looks suspicious,' Sevi thought. Despite Noemi's firm trust in her, Sevi couldn't shake off his lingering doubts on the nurse.
