The Roman Glory Legion (Legio I Adiutrix).
Samuel Young had not delved deeply into the Roman history of the Prime Universe. He only knew that the Glory Legion was founded by Emperor Claudius of Rome, initially serving as a support unit for the regular army, thus considered a marginalized military force.
However, in the 1st to 3rd centuries, the predecessor of the Glory Legion was deployed to the Roman frontiers, playing a crucial role in defense and expansion wars along the borders, successfully earning the title of "Gloria" (Glory).
The most notable aspect of the Glory Legion throughout Rome's history was its reputation for strict discipline, obedience to command, and humane treatment of prisoners, all while maintaining a professional attitude and exceptional combat skills.
After the fall of the Eastern Roman Empire to the Ottoman Turks in 1453, the last remnants of the Glory Legion disappeared entirely, leading everyone to believe that it had faded into history along with the Roman Empire.
Samuel Young was no exception, and he even harbored some skepticism about the "humane treatment of prisoners" attributed to the Legion. After all, in an era of insufficient productivity, famine was common, and prisoners were often used as free labor or sent to die as cannon fodder.
Yet, the 46 "traitors" imprisoned in the Dusk Bar's dungeon had resisted their vampiric and cannibalistic instincts for over five centuries, clinging to their humanity. This demonstrated that these individuals had engraved the "glory" of the Legion deeply into their hearts, unable to tolerate the atrocities committed by werewolves and vampires against humans.
Samuel understood that such steadfast individuals were not limited to the Glory Legion but could be found across the world and within various civilizations, representing a unique aspect of the human race.
This spark of humanity was something that the vampires and werewolves, who had abandoned their humanity, could neither understand nor tolerate. In fact, it likely caused them pain. Consequently, they viewed the 46 warriors of the Glory Legion as despicable "traitors."
These warriors were imprisoned and subjected to endless torment, as their captors sought to prove that their own choices were correct—that they were a species superior to humans.
At this moment, Samuel stopped pondering other matters and raised his hand to bring up a holographic keyboard, sending a response to Ada, who was stationed in the Prime Universe:
"1. Permission is granted to provide medical treatment to the 46 suspected former members of the Glory Legion.
2. The Biotech Division will dispatch specialized personnel to Italy to provide you with technical support.
3. Additionally, begin extracting useful information from the white-haired abnormal entity captured by ARS and pursue and eliminate the so-called Sovereign.
4. The Public Relations, News, and Network Departments will work to assist your investigation and minimize the impact on public opinion.
5. If you require additional resources or authority from the company, report it immediately."
After confirming that the reply had been successfully sent, Samuel closed the holographic screen related to the 'abnormal entities,' leaving only the 'District 012 Development Plan of Iron City' and the 'Welfare and Education System Reform Progress' projects, which still required his review.
However, Samuel was also contemplating the issue of "Abhumans."
Despite his reluctance to face it, and even less to admit it, the moment his Primarch sons "descended from the heavens," he became inextricably linked to the Emperor of Mankind from Warhammer 40k.
So when Ada's report mentioned the members of the Glory Legion, Samuel's thoughts naturally turned to the Abhuman groups within the Imperium of Man.
In the galaxy of Warhammer 40k, Warp storms isolated various colonies and star systems, forcing humans living on extreme planets to evolve or mutate to adapt to their environments.
Over time, these mutated humans and their descendants evolved into Abhuman groups.
This aligns with the literal meaning of "Abhuman"—"from humans."
In the 30th millennium, during the era of the Imperium of Man ruled by the Emperor, Abhumans were commonly enlisted in Imperial forces, contributing to the Great Crusade to reclaim the galaxy and restore humanity.
However, after the Horus Heresy, when the Emperor was confined to the Golden Throne, the Imperium of Man entered a period of stagnation.
Over the next ten thousand years, the majority of Abhuman groups were either wiped out or pushed to the brink of extinction because, in the eyes of the Imperium, genetic mutation was closely tied to Warp corruption.
Nonetheless, a small number of Abhuman groups still served the Imperium, with the most famous being the Navigators, Ogryns, and Ratlings.
Navigators, with their third eye, were crucial, as human ships relied on them for navigation to "safely" traverse the Warp.
As for Ogryns and Ratlings, the former were physically strong but of limited intelligence, while the latter were skilled in cooking and possessed exceptional marksmanship.
As Samuel thought about these branches of Abhumans, he began to consider whether Atlas should accept "Abhumans" derived from humanity.
At the same time, he was also contemplating other species that, in appearance and size, were only slightly different from humans.
Abhumans were one thing; for example, the Glory Legion warriors imprisoned in the Dusk Bar's dungeon had a strong sense of responsibility and identity with humanity. Regardless of whether humanity was strong or weak, they would fight alongside humans to the end.
In contrast, other species fell into the "unknown" category.
If humanity were to encounter alien species that had reached a stellar civilization, the latter would likely approach with hostility.
All potential friendly relations and alliances would have to be built on the foundation that humanity, Atlas, and Samuel himself possessed absolute strength.
In Warhammer 40k, during humanity's Golden Age, they had signed non-aggression pacts with dozens of alien species and even maintained excellent economic and cultural exchanges.
However, when the AI rebellion and Warp storms threw humanity into chaos and its weakest state, those alien species that had once signed treaties didn't hesitate to kick humanity while it was down.
Moreover, after witnessing the horrors inflicted upon humanity by species like the Mimics, Eva, and the Precursors, especially the human suffering on Earth-06 (Pacific Rim), Samuel's aversion to alien species was only intensified.
Nonetheless, at this stage, the humans of the Prime Universe were still confined to the Solar System, unable to explore beyond it on a large scale in the short term. Thus, there was little opportunity to encounter alien species that had reached stellar civilizations.
However, if they were to encounter humanoid species that actively expressed goodwill in other universes accessed through the spatial gates, Samuel wouldn't draw his sword without reason.
Ultimately, the key to everything lay in development and strength.
At this moment, Samuel pulled his drifting thoughts back to focus once more on the development matters of Iron City.
At the same time, he also planned to have Alexia, upon his return to the Prime Universe, begin experiments using the organizational samples of vampires and werewolves, particularly focusing on the Gene-Seed project.
