Damien found himself locked behind a cell sitting around waiting to get set free. After a while of boredom he began looking around for someone to talk to. The cell he was in was pretty empty with a few stragglers here and there, mainly just drunk folks. Though when he asked for a conversation to a cellmate he was met with silence.
He thought to himself, "Man these guys suck." After giving up on trying to communicate with the mates he scanned the area. He saw the desk with a police officer sitting there, he was calm and collected, not worrying about much.
Not after long Terrence walked inside, spoke with some police officers and Damien was let out. After walking out Damien was confused in how he was let off so quickly. Terrence just smiled and said, "Cough up $700 otherwise you can just go back inside."
Damien frowned but gave his bit of money to the officer. After walking out to the desk the duo turned around to the cop at the desk. "So, can we apply?" The cop gave quite the surprised look.
All of a sudden a rugged man walked to the front, the duo waved awkwardly. The rough voice spoke up, "So you two wanna be cops, alright let's go." The man then started walking outside, of course the duo took this opportunity to shine.
As they walked outside the man got into his car. The two saw this tired man who seemed to be ready to retire waiting at his wheel for the two to get in. As the two slowly stepped inside they were met with a nice smell, you could say it was a hint of lavender.
The man began to drive as he spoke, "You two wanna be cops but your entrance is quite the opposite of wanting to be a cop. Honestly, I don't expect much from either of you so take this chance and impress me."
The two nodded at him but the man gave them a very stern look. "AM I TALKING TO MUTES?" The duo jumped up and shouted, "NO SIR!" The man smiled and shouted, "GOOD!!" he began to give quite the maniacal laugh.
Giving a concerned look, earth and wind looked at each other. They sighed as they knew this was gonna be hellish. Arriving in just 5 minutes everyone stepped outside to see a large gate. The older man pushed this gate open as he did. You saw recruits everywhere working, some running, some fighting, some pushing metal and some eating. Everything was being done in a very passionate manner.
Terrence spoke up, "So what are we doing?" As they began walking in, the man gave an answer, "You are going to be proving yourself against them and you are going to be watching." Terrence was a little scared knowing he's gonna have to fight against trained benders. Damien is there just confused on what he's actually doing.
Terrence walked over to the field while stretching. Filling himself with a bit of confidence he saw everyone working their hardest. Their pumping muscles shook him a bit but he pushed forward. He saw a block of metal, sitting there lonesome. He sat in front of it and placed his hands on it.
Trying to reshape it in any manner or even just slightly moving. But it didn't budge, he couldn't grasp its concept. After a few minutes of just sitting there trying to move the block he gave up. Shouting in a fit he caught the attention of other recruits.
Some giggle and point and others gossip. But the same old man shouts out, "IS IT FUNNY TO SEE YOUR COMRADE FRUSTRATED!!!" All the recruits salute then shout, "NO SARGE!!" The man then pointed at Terrence, "AND YOU, YOU CANNOT GRASP THE CONCEPT OF METAL BENDING."
Terrence could do nothing but shout back, "NO SIR!" The man shouted back while stomping towards Terrence, "I AM SARGE TO YOU, NOW FOCUS ON THE BLOCK, FIND ITS IMPURITIES AND MOVE THEM." Terrence then quickly sat back down touching the block then shouted, "YES SARGE!!"
Terrence then gave complete focus on the block of metal, after a few moments of just rubbing it he started to sense something. Unable to fully sense it he gave it a tap. With the vibrations of the tap he saw a few bits.
In the large expanse of metal void there were planets. Each planet that you could move around, each piece of impurity in the metal you could move. Terrence finally got it, he began to reshape the block of metal.
Giving it an arm or wings, or giving it a new head. All of it rough and disgusting to look at, but he did it. Terrence was finally able to bend the metal to his will, only barely though. He was awoken from his meditation by a pat on his back.
"That's a good job, NOW GET UP AND RUN!!!" Sarge crossed his arms and began watching everyone running. He then shouted to Damien, "You've done enough watching, RUN!!"
Damien who's been just watching people just began to run. He thought to himself as he ran, "What am I even doing here, just sitting around watching people." Running and running he couldn't find anything in himself. No answers, no clues, almost as if this wasn't supposed to happen.
Sitting in a cafeteria lounge next to Terrance, Damien was bumped into. "Watch yourselves." Coming from the man who bumped into them, a bit angered Damien got up shouting, "You bumped into me!!!" Terrance backed up Damien, side by side the two confronted him.
A smirk popped up on the man's face, grabbing a metal tray and throwing it at the duo. Latching onto their mouths and hands completely detaining them. "Two idiots sneaking in here and expecting us to just gladly accept them, HA! Look at them, did you two even consider tagging along with sarge would put some targets on your backs? Both of you are lucky this is the last day. Just leave and start at the beginning like the rest of us." The man then just walked away.
Another recruit came to help the trapped duo, "You guys alright?" The feminine voice helped them out. With a bit of a calmed temper the two just asked who he was, she replied "The name's Bumi. But you know, he's right, you guys really came at the worst timing ever."
As the two were patting each other off a certain voice was heard. "It's time for you two to get outta here." The duo watched as Sarge walked up to them and led them out. The two got into sarge's car, sarge began talking. "Terrance your training starts on Monday, Damien if you wanna be in the department you'll have to prove yourself more."
Damien and Terrance sat in silence, as the two were dropped off at the police station, Sarge bid them good night and left. The two began making their way home. "Damien what went wrong?" Terrance said as he nudged at Damien. A reply was quickly said, "I don't know, I was just there, doing nothing. What was I supposed to do?"
Terrance then thought about it a bit. "It did seem pretty impossible, given one blank instruction with nothing else, it was pretty unfair" He then offered Damien a piece of thought. "You said you wanted to be an air bending cop, yet when given the chance to observe and analyze you didn't, did you even really wanna be an cop?"
Thinking back at it Damien just knew he was right, what was the point of being an officer. What was the point of having a normal job? The boss paid him for every mission, It's good enough. With their roles decided the entire group met up in their room. A fulfilling day was met with a few boxes of pizza that Terrance picked up.
