Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: knowing what's lacking and changing

A group of security officers was stunned by the chaotic scene in the room, especially when they saw the bulletproof glass shattered like a spiderweb.

"Captain Emma, the perpetrator broke in through the window directly. There was no explosion involved; they just kicked the glass and the junction with the wall," one of the officers said, pointing at the footprints on the bulletproof glass, also feeling incredulous.

How could a person have such strength?

Emma immediately thought of Steelman and mused, "There can't be many people with such strength. Could it really be him?"

With that thought, Emma's brow furrowed slightly. If it was indeed Steelman, what should she do?

"Even though you've saved me, if you were the one who killed Liam, I would make every effort to capture you and apply for a reduced sentence," Emma thought to herself.

Liam's death was like a hurricane, sweeping through the upper echelons of Lakeview City. Many prominent families and high officials were stunned by the news.

At the Wang family in Lakeview City, Henry was currently seeking martial arts advice from Mr. Wang, with Olivia quietly sitting beside them.

Suddenly, Henry's phone rang, and he received the news of Liam's murder, along with a picture of Liam's body in the bedroom.

Henry's eyes widened as he saw the picture and quickly handed the phone to Mr. Wang, asking, "Grandfather, the entire glass wall has collapsed."

Mr. Wang took the phone, his gaze sharp like an eagle, and stared at the picture for a long time before handing the phone back to Henry, slowly saying, "Indeed, there are always people beyond the sky."

Olivia, standing by, was puzzled but couldn't help but gasp when she saw the scene in the picture.

Henry was astonished to hear his grandfather use the phrase "beyond the sky" to describe someone. Even with his years of experience, he found it hard to believe.

Mr. Wang was no ordinary person. Though he was only somewhat accomplished in the business world, he was a peak figure in the martial arts realm.

Henry immediately thought of James and recalled his impressive skills from when he had darted out of a car. He also remembered James' remark, "My medicine isn't so easy to obtain," and his eyes narrowed.

"Olivia, didn't you say you were colleagues with James?" Henry asked. "What is he like?"

Olivia thought for a moment and said, "He's not bad, but he's also not outstanding—just an ordinary person, I guess."

"Ordinary person?" Henry was taken aback and then laughed, "Can an ordinary person kill Liam overnight?"

"What? James killed someone?" Olivia didn't believe it and was suddenly very curious about her old colleague. She couldn't help but laugh, "Brother, don't we still have a few villas in the Green Garden District? I'll move in there tomorrow."

Henry was dumbfounded and laughed, "You're not planning to move into Building 101, are you?"

Olivia smirked slyly.

Henry was frustrated, feeling that he shouldn't have told his sister about James killing Liam. Having grown up with Olivia, Henry knew she looked gentle but was a tiger at heart.

"James, I'm sorry about this," Henry thought to himself.

At the official building in Lakeview City, Tremp had just finished a full day of meetings. Thinking about the potential problems Lakeview City might face next, he felt somewhat frustrated. Even though he usually prided himself on his energy, he felt mentally exhausted.

After a brief rest, Tremp picked up a stack of documents to review. The first page caught his eye with the words "Urgent Situation Report." On the fifth line was written—Liam of the Liam's Family was assassinated, and the perpetrator has escaped.

Tremp was stunned. He had been informed by Henry earlier that Liam had pressured James. But since James wasn't in trouble, Tremp had let it go. He didn't expect that Liam would be assassinated that very night.

Tremp pondered for a moment, then dialed a number and simply said eight words: "Deserved it. End of story."

On the other end of the line, a middle-aged man in his fifties, who looked somewhat like Liam, had red eyes. With a loud crash, he smashed the telephone to pieces.

"Despicable, despicable!" The middle-aged man was furious. If it were peacetime, he wouldn't be afraid of Tremp. But now, with chaos everywhere and the official power unprecedentedly strong, he dared not ignore Tremp's words.

Meanwhile, James had returned home under the cover of night and fog. He put his nightwear into a mysterious space and then relaxed on his bed.

"With this, those coveting my medicine should quiet down a bit," James thought to himself.

He had carefully considered the assassination of Liam. News of his medicine for treating the X virus would soon spread throughout Lakeview City and even to Huadu. As just a minor figure, it was likely that anyone with a bit of power would come after him.

Liam was neither too big nor too small a target, making him ideal to use as an example to deter others. At least, it would intimidate a batch of people for a while. As for the follow-up troubles from killing Liam, James felt that Tremp would help him handle it.

Of course, if Tremp didn't act, James could deal with the revenge from the Liam's Family, though it would be much more troublesome.

Sure enough, James' phone rang with a message from Henry: "Tremp has warned the Liam's Family."

James smiled when he saw the message. Tremp didn't support him in the afternoon, but now he did. It seemed that the support of big shots was indeed selective.

"One must have sufficient capital," James thought, which solidified his ongoing plan.

This plan was—to form his own team!

James had never been a genius or had the capability to strategize and win battles. In his previous life, he was just a white-collar worker, an ordinary person. After the apocalypse, he became an evolutionist, but essentially just a thug who eventually died.

So James always felt that his planning and response in the apocalypse were insufficient. If Henry had the same resources as him, he might have already risen to the top in Huaguo, leading the people against the apocalypse.

Recognizing his shortcomings was the only thing James could do now.

"Those evolutionists from my previous life should still be ordinary people now. If I can find them early…" James thought of an idea, considered it briefly, and then made a list of five people. He sent a message to Henry to help check their information.

Henry replied with "Okay," and James tossed his phone aside and fell asleep.

The next morning, after taking some spring water and having breakfast with his grandparents and his second uncle's family, James was about to drive out to hunt mutated beasts when Henry arrived with a stack of documents.

Although James knew that Liam was killed by him, Henry still wanted to hear it directly from James. So he asked, "Was it you who killed Liam?"

James looked at Henry with a half-smile and feigned ignorance, "What about Liam?"

"Forget it, let's not dwell on it," Henry said, seeing James playing dumb. He handed the documents to James and said with a smile, "I've found the information on the people you needed. There are some with the same names, but there are photos, so you can easily identify them."

James took the documents and quickly scanned through them, soon finding the information on five people.

- Arnold, Male, 31, retired soldier, bodyguard at Sky Group, current residence: Lakeview City, East District, Phoenix Road, No. 36.

James quickly focused on arnold information.

arnold was a close comrade from James' past life, who had fought alongside him for years. James chose to find him first because he knew arnold wife had died in the live human experiments conducted by the arnolds Group.

Thus, James needed to find arnold quickly to prevent a similar tragedy.

"By the way, do you have any connections to get another apartment in the Green Garden District, not necessarily a villa? I can exchange it for food or the medicine that treats the X virus," James suddenly said to Henry.

Henry's eyes lit up and he asked, "How much of that medicine do you have?"

"Um… about seven or eight doses," James said casually, neither more nor less.

"That's easy. I'll get it sorted in an hour," Henry said with a smile. He knew that wealthy people in Lakeview City were desperately seeking the X virus medicine.

Henry made a call and, half an hour later, James received a high-floor apartment in the Green Garden District, along with a dose of spring water.

After the matter was settled, Henry left, and James drove his pickup truck towards Liu Jun's residence as listed in the documents.
