Chereads / Wanda and claws (HP-X-men FF) / Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

So, you stabbed Professor Snape in the arse?" The pretty, pink haired prefect Tonks asked with disbelief as the Hufflepuffs were all sat in the common room, the looks Harry received were divided between hero worshipping and fearful, Tonks was quite clearly in the first category.

"He was being mean to my sister." Harry shrugged, Laura who was petting Felix smiled at him.

"Ha," Tonks laughed. "I suppose that's as good a reason as any."

"That's what I said." Harry said in a pleased voice, glad to finally have someone agree with him.

"Good reason or not, can you please try not to stab teachers again in the future?" Jean asked with a roll of her green eyes.

"Fine," Harry sighed, this time it was him who rolled his green eyes. "I will try not to stab teachers, are you happy?"

"Somewhat, can you promise not to stab teachers again?" Jean asked hopefully.

"I'm sorry but did you just say 'promise not to stab someone'? Let's not get crazy here," Harry said, looking at her like she had indeed gone crazy. "you know that stabbing is literally what I am best at." Harry added.

"I would think that would be magic, Mr Wandless." Emma commented, by now the fact that Harry was able to do wandless magic had circled the school at least twice. It had gotten so out of hand that some people were even saying that in transfiguration class Harry had simply waved his hand and turned every desk in the room into a wolf.

"Is that jealousy?" Harry asked with a smirk.

"Merely admiration." Emma easily replied.

"With a hint of jealousy." Jean added with a grin.

"I'd like to see you do wandless magic," Emma shot back. "and no..." Emma added when Jean was about to raise her hand. "...I'm not counting anything that you can do with your powers."

"Well, that's just not fair." Jean huffed.

"Says the girl who can levitate and move stuff with her mind." Another Hufflepuff replied.

"Welcome everyone to charms class!" Professor Flitwick said as the Hufflepuffs joined the Ravenclaws, Gryffindors and Slytherin's in their first year first charms class. "Welcome all, please take a seat." He said, the students all sat down in their seats. The room's seating was different from transfigurations class which was just a bunch of desks, this class had two long two long rows of desk on each side of the rooms. Harry and Laura sat in one row with Jean and Emma next to them, they all looked at Professor Flitwick who was stood on top of a bunch of books that were on top of a chair.

"That doesn't look very safe." Emma whispered to the others.

"I don't think it is." Jean frowned.

Professor Flitwick began running through the class register, when he finally reached Harry's name he let out a squeak and ended up falling off his books, he was about to fall onto the floor but was thankfully caught by Jean who telepathically levitated him up into the air and placed him on top of his desk.

"Dear Merlin!" Professor Flitwick gasped as everyone looked at Jean with wide eyes. "Wandless magic?!"

"Um...no, Professor." Jean said awkwardly. "Harry can do wandless magic, I was able to catch you with my mutant powers."

"Mutant pow...oh, yes! I remember now, I received a brief explanation on what mutants are." Professor Flitwick replied. "Could you perhaps tell me more about them?" He asked curiously.

"Of course." Jean said before reciting her explanation on mutants.

"Oh, that's very interesting." Professor Flitwick said with genuine interest once she was done. "Hmm, I look forward to teaching you." He said before turning to the rest of the classroom. "Now everyone, I sincerely hope you all will enjoy this class. Now for the first few minutes of the class we will get the boring part out of the way before we start with actually performing charms. Today we will only be going through a very simple couple of charms, nothing too heavy, after all it's your first class. Now, let's begin."

After ten minutes or so of reading the class began moving onto actually performing their spells.

"Now, pay attention everyone." Professor Flitwick said. "First we will be working on the very simple 'lumos' charm, a charm that is designed to create a beam of light from the tip of your wand. Despite the simplicity of the spell, the Wand-Lighting Charm was not invented until the 18th century. It was first used publicly by its inventor, Levina Monkstanley in the Ministry of Magic in 1772 — to the astonishment of her colleagues — to help her look for a fallen quill in a dusty corner.

However, Garvin Lügner (a German wizard) claimed to have been the one who invented the spell, while he was developing his Instant Darkness Powder. It had later been discovered that Lügner had been lying about the invention of the charm and that his Instant Darkness Powder did not do too much more than slightly dim the lights. Now lumos is without doubt a very useful spell, especially if you find yourself wondering a dark corridor at night or wanting to read a book before you fall asleep in your bed. I am not expecting perfect results, nor am I expecting all of you to get this immediately. There have been many great wizards and witches in the past that haven't got this in the first lesson, I have known a few students that took two lessons to get it and they were still able to pass all of their exams. Now, there are no real wand movements with this spell, you simply take your wand and say the incantation 'lumos'. Whenever you're ready class."

A minute later the class had finished practising and now Professor Flitwick had begun looking around, he saw that Laura had a simple but bright light on her wand, Jean had the brightest light while Emma had the prettiest since her light had somehow ended up having sparkles of blue. Harry on the other hand had at first managed to get a light on the top of his finger.

"Oh well done, all of you!" Professor Flitwick grinned. "Excellent work all around, now remember to practise this in your spare time, we will try this again in our next lesson. Now, pay close attention as I'm going to start teaching you all the colour changing charm. The incantation is 'co-loh-VA-ree-ah', 'colovaria'."

The next few minutes of the class were spent learning the charm before being able to practise it on a piece of parchment, all around the classroom students were changing their parchments from red to gold to blue to white and to whatever colour they could think of.

"This is really fun!" Laura whispered to the others while Professor Flitwick went on the other side of the classroom to help a few Ravenclaws.

"Yeah," Jean whispered back with a big grin. "this is amazing!" She said, really happy to learn magic, even if it was only a simple colour changing charm.

"Hmm." Harry hummed thoughtfully as he looked at Jean, a moment later he grinned and whispered something as he waved his hand over her head before his grin got wider. Emma looked at Jean and immediately snorted as she tried to hold back laughter.

"What?" Jean blinked before turning back to Harry. "What did you do?" She asked just before she heard Laura chuckle slightly.

"Nothing much Red, though I'm not sure if that nickname works anymore." Harry smirked as he reached out and gently pulled some of her hair so she could see it. Jean's green eyes widened when she saw her previously red hair had been turned the same white colour as Emma's.

"Harry!" She hissed as she slapped his arm. "What the hell?!"

"Relax," Harry said as he rolled his eyes. "it'll wear off, and if you can't wait that long then just turn it back, you know the exact same spell."

"Personally, I think you should leave it as it is." Emma said with a smirk. "I think blonde suits you, it is the best colour of hair after all."

"Well, personally I think you'd look great as a redhead." Jean said with narrowed eyes before she quickly aimed her wand at Emma's hair. "Colovaria." She said. Emma's eyes widened as she looked down at her hair and saw that it head been turned red, she looked up at Jean who was smirking at her.

"Well...I'm sure you realise...that this means war." Emma said with a smile, raising her own wand.

"Bring it, princess." Jean said as she held up her own wand.

"There will be no need for war in this classroom ladies." Professor Flitwick's squeaky voice interrupted as he walked over to them, chuckling as he did so. He waved his wand, Emma and Jean's hair turned back to normal. "There you go, all better."

"Thank you," Emma nodded to him before frowning. "we're not in trouble, are we? Because if we are then I would just like to say that is entirely Harry and Jean's fault."

"No Miss Frost, you are not in trouble." Professor Flitwick smiled. "You'd be surprised how many students do something similar in the first class. I'm rather used to it by now."

"So, what are your favourite classes so far?" Jean asked as the group sat down at the Hufflepuff table for lunch.

"I quite like transfigurations but I do believe that charms class is more interesting." Emma replied.

"Yeah," Laura said in agreement. "Professor Flitwick isn't as...'stiff' as Professor McGonagall."

"True," Harry nodded. "I'm really looking forward to the flying class that we're supposed to have later this week."

"Oh, me as well," Jean grinned, images of her flying were currently occupying her head. "I wonder how fast the brooms can go."

"Probably faster than you're capable of handling." A voice said in a condescending drawl, the four turned to see Draco Malfoy and his two friends (bodyguards/goons) standing behind him. "I bet you've never even ridden a broom, probably never flew on anything in your entire life."

"You're right," Jean shrugged. "I've never flown 'on' anything. I've flown 'in' planes before and I've flew on my own without a broom."

"You're lying," Draco sniffed, not believing that a simple mudblood could fly into the air when trained purebloods that were years older than her could not do it. "I don't know who you think that you are trying to impress but I.." Draco found himself cut off as Jean stood up and levitated herself into the air, the blonde boy looked at her with pure disbelief and a dropped jaw along with nearly everyone else in the hall.

"I'm sorry, what were you saying?" Jean asked in an innocent voice as she lowered herself back down and took a seat, she was trying and failing at not looking smug. "It was hard to hear you while I was up there." She said, earning amused looks from her three friends.

"Listen up hair gel," Harry said as he turned to Draco. "close your mouth and go back to your table." At Harry's words Draco's mouth closed and he glared at Harry.

"Stop calling me 'hair gel' and why should I? You can't tell me what to do."

"First of all because nobody here likes you, the second reason is because you're a bother and not just to my sense of smell." Harry replied. "Now beat it."

"Or what? You're going to stab me like you did Professor Snape?" Draco asked, red faced.

"I'm getting quite tempted to." Harry nodded.

"You're just a half-blood savage, Potter!"

"A savage? Hmm, I like the sound of that." Harry said with a grin.

"If that is the case then I would advise you to speak to him in a nicer manner," Emma spoke to Draco. "savages are dangerous and if Professor's aren't safe from Harry's wrath then what makes you think that you are?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. It was her honest belief that the sorting hat had clearly made a mistake or was somehow forced into accepting Draco Malfoy into Slytherin. Perhaps the boy was ambitious, but she doubted it, though he was most definitely not cunning nor was he showing any signs of cunning by approaching and antagonising students, including one who had previously stabbed a teacher.

"Yeah, and as a special treat I won't use a knife for you." Harry said to Draco as he raised a hand and three metal claws popped out. "So, you going to leave or do I have to give you a haircut?" He asked, Draco and his goons backed away just as Professor Sprout arrived.

"What is going on here?" Professor Sprout asked with a frown. "Mr Potter, are you threatening Mr Malfoy?"

"Yes, but I'm not exactly sane." Harry shrugged.

"That's five points from Hufflepuff, now put the claws away and tell me what is happening."

"Hair gel over here is bothering us." Harry said as his claws went back into his hand.

"It's true, Professor Sprout." Laura spoke up. "We were just sitting and talking when he walked up to us."

"You lying little..." Draco began, only to be interrupted by Professor Sprout.

"Mr Malfoy, you will hold your tongue. Ten points from Slytherin, now get back to your seats." She ordered. "And another five points for glaring at me." She added when Draco did glare at her. Draco looked away and sent one last flare to the four mutants before walking off with Crabbe and Goyle.

"What a blithering idiot." Emma said, shaking her head.
